April 30, 2021 Iowa Ms. Wrestler of the Year Ella Schmit Awarded Dan Gable Wrestler of the Year Award Congratulations to BHS junior Ella Schmit for being awarded the 2021 Dan Gable Ms. Wrestler of the Year. Fareway Stores, Inc. and BodyArmor Sports Drink annually present the Dan Gable Ms. & Mr. Wrestler of the Year Awards in coordination with IAwrestle and the Iowa High School Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA). Bettendorf standout Ella Schmit capped off a historic season in 2021 putting her in elite company in the state of Iowa. In January she became a three-time IWOCA state finalist and won her second title by pinning her way through the bracket. In February, she became the third girl’s wrestler to qualify for the boy’s state tournament and then became the second girl to win a match at the tournament. Her other accomplishments include a 2020 AAU state title and runner-up finish the year prior. She joins Bettendorf graduate Fredy Stroker in award winners from her school. Three finalists from each of the three state wrestling classes, regardless of their year in school and weight class were selected by fan and IWCOA committee votes for Mr. Wrestler of the Year. In addition, three women finalists were selected for the Ms. Wrestler Awards. Leading through Uncharted Waters School Board Recognition Month - May Over the past year, leadership at the board table has come with challenges and decisions no one could have anticipated. School boards have made tough choices that impact the health and safety of students, staff and the school community, while continuing to prioritize student achievement and educational equity. In a normal year, these unpaid volunteers work diligently to ensure schools provide the best education possible for Iowa’s future citizens. This past year, they’ve persevered and led through uncharted waters to make critical decisions without even a map to navigate these challenges. Join us as we celebrate the leadership of the Bettendorf School Board. #ThankATeacher - May 3-7 Teacher Appreciation Week Let’s face it: this school year has been weird!
