The CIRC is a training ground for new researchers and physicians, who continue their work at hospitals and treatment centers across North America •Multiple sclerosis and beyond. Scientists at the CIRC give us hope for a future where developmental disabilities •Neuropathic pain can be prevented, treated or cured like any other illness. •Parkinson’s disease This long-term work is made possible by a $20 million commitment from Civitan Interna- •Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder tional and its member clubs. The Civitans recognized in the pages of this Annual Report have (PTSD) worked diligently through fundraisers, donations, and other support programs to further this •Rett syndrome research and build a better tomorrow. You can donate online at www.civitan.org/donate, or call 1-800-CIVITAN. 3 2015 Civitan International Golf Benefit On July 12, 2015, the 22nd annual Civitan International Golf Benefit was held at Glen Echo Golf Course in St. Louis, MO. Civitan golfers from around the world came together for a world-class round of golf at this incredible resort, and celebrated a year of exceptional fundraising for Civitan’s flagship project. Each golfer raised at least $1,500 in donations for the Civitan International Research Center, with most of them raising much more. Thanks to all the golfers who participated, and all the generous Civitans who donated to support this important research. As of press time, golfers had raised a total of $220,189.23 for the Civitan International Research Center this year! That’s coming from 54 golfers and 79 Putt-n-Chip participants. Since its inception, the Golf Benefit has raised $4,928,609.58 for research into developmental disabilities and other cognitive disorders at our Research Center. Congratulations to all our award winners at the Golf Benefit. Special thanks to all the golfers who participated, and every Civitan and club who sponsored this outstanding event. Linda Lane Civitan’s annual Putt-n-Chip fundraiser also took place at the International Convention! Each putter raised at least $150 for the Civitan International Research Center, and many far exceeded that amount. Putters shared a rollicking good time on the putting green aboard the Carnival Freedom. Participants in the 2015 Putt-n-Chip raised a total of $24,924 for research at the Civitan International Research Center. Thanks to these wonderful Civitans and the generous donors who make this fundraising possible. 4 Candy and Coin Box Awards Candy Box President’s Awards H.O.P.E. Award Honoring the top fundraisers in Civitan’s Candy Box Helping Other People Experience Program. Small Civitan Clubs Salisbury Civitan Club 1st place ....... Burlington, NC (North Carolina District East) Salisbury, North Carolina North Carolina District West 2nd place ........... Forsyth, NC (North Carolina District West) 3rd place ................... Columbia, SC (South Carolina District) The winner of the 2014-2015 HOPE Award is the Salisbury Civitan Club of Salisbury, North Carolina. This club has been in operation for more than 90 years, Medium-sized Civitan Clubs and has a long and proud history of helping people with developmental disabilities. One of their main avenues of funding for this charity work is the Civitan Candy 1st place .........................Roanoke, VA (Chesapeake District) Box Program. 2nd place Guilford College, NC (North Carolina District East) In 2014-2015, the club maintained a total of 44 candy boxes in restaurants and 3rd place ..................Greenville, SC (South Carolina District) businesses throughout the community! Furthermore, they added seven new boxes. This gave them the ability to continue and strengthen their support of Special Large Civitan Clubs Olympics programs in their area. 1st place .............................. Owensboro, KY (Valley District) Programs funded through Candy Box donations included the Rowan County 2nd place ............Durham, NC (North Carolina District East) Special Olympics Track and Field competition, the Rowan County Special Olympics Banquet, and a Challenger Little League baseball team (for kids with 3rd place .........Salisbury, NC (North Carolina District West) developmental disabilities). The club also provided volunteer support for the Sonic Western Basketball Tour, the Darrell Harwood Special Olympics Concert, and shivered for a good cause with the Rowan County Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Congratulations to this hard-working club for this award. We hope to see them putting even more change to good use in the coming years with the Candy Box Program.
