Illnesses and disorders studied at the CIRC

Since the 1950’s, Civitan International has had a special focus on improving the lives of those •Autism affected by developmental disabilities. The CIRC is a training ground for new researchers and physicians, who continue their work at hospitals and treatment centers across North America •Multiple sclerosis and beyond. 3 2015 Civitan International Golf Benefit

On July 12, 2015, the 22nd annual Civitan International Golf Benefit was held at Glen Echo Golf Course in St. Louis, MO. Civitan golfers from around the world came together for a world-class round of golf at this incredible resort, and celebrated a year of exceptional fundraising for Civitan’s flagship project. Each golfer raised at least $1,500 in donations for the Civitan International Research Center, with most of them raising much more. Thanks to all the golfers who participated, and all the generous Civitans who donated to support this important research. As of press time, golfers had raised a total of $220,189.23 for the Civitan International Research Center this year! That’s coming from 54 golfers and 79 Putt-n-Chip participants. Since its inception, the Golf Benefit has raised $4,928,609.58 for research into developmental disabilities and other cognitive disorders at our Research Center. Congratulations to all our award winners at the Golf Benefit. Special thanks to all the golfers who participated, and every Civitan and club who sponsored this outstanding event. Top Fundraiser: ...... Linda Lane Civitan’s annual Putt-n-Chip fundraiser also took place at the International Convention! Each putter raised at least $150 for the Civitan International Research Center, and many far exceeded that amount. Putters shared a rollicking good time on the putting green aboard the Carnival Freedom. Participants in the 2015 Putt-n-Chip raised a total of $24,924 for research at the Civitan International Research Center. Thanks to these wonderful Civitans and the generous donors who make this fundraising possible.

Roanoke, VA (Chesapeake District) Box Program. 2nd place.Guilford College, NC (North Carolina District East) In 2014-2015, the club maintained a total of 44 candy boxes in restaurants and 3rd place...... Greenville, SC (South Carolina District) businesses throughout the community! Furthermore, they added seven new boxes. This gave them the ability to continue and strengthen their support of Special Large Civitan Clubs Olympics programs in their area. 1st place...... Owensboro, KY (Valley District) Programs funded through Candy Box donations included the Rowan County 2nd place...... Durham, NC (North Carolina District East) Special Olympics Track and Field competition, the Rowan County Special Olympics Banquet, and a Challenger Little League baseball team (for kids with 3rd place...... Salisbury, NC (North Carolina District West) developmental disabilities). The club also provided volunteer support for the Sonic Western Basketball Tour, the Darrell Harwood Special Olympics Concert, and shivered for a good cause with the Rowan County Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Congratulations to this hard-working club for this award. We hope to see them putting even more change to good use in the coming years with the Candy Box Program.

5 2014-2015 International Fellows To honor a special individual, Civitan clubs or club members often make a significant donation in that person’s name to have them recognized as a Civitan International Fellow. These donations support Civitan International’s charitable mission through the Civitan International Research Center and the Shropshire Scholarship program. Fellows can be purchased through a donation of $1,200 (for Foundation, Freedom and Research Center Fellows). A Junior Fellow can also be purchased for $300. In 2012, Civitan International created new levels of recognition with the Sustaining Research Center Fellow ($2,500 donation) and Junior Research Center Fellow ($600 donation). 7 Junior Civitan Sno-Do

Barrie, ON – Junior Civitan governors and international officers from the and met in Barrie last January for the 2015 Sno-Do. Months of fundraising and hard work paid off as 18 participants attended the event. Sno- Do is Junior Civitan’s largest annual fundraiser for projects of the program and the Civitan International Research Center.

Each Junior Civitan in attendance raised at least $1,800 with many participants exceeding that goal! A total of $59,828 was raised for the 2015 Sno-Do. The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of Civitans around the world. A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported this wonderful cause!

Junior Civitan Dance-a-Thon Myrtle Beach, SC – Since 1974, Junior Civitans have raised money for the projects of the program and the Civitan International Research Center through the annual Dance- a-thon event. After many years in Canada, Dance-a-thon found a sunny new home in Myrtle Beach. Each Junior Civitan in attendance raised at least $1,500 and altogether, participants raised $45,174! Thank you to Junior Civitans, Civitans and everyone else who helped make this great event possible.

in Birmingham, Alabama was opened in Alabama Central District 1976. It was designed, built for, and fully Jay Albertia owned by Civitan International as a center Gena Albertia Almonte Civitan Club for learning, administrative offices, and Lyle Armstrong to offer a much higher level of support Edward Baum for the member clubs. Nearly 40 years of Bill and Sharon Buscher Civitan leaders have crossed the threshold California District for tours, training, meetings, and more. Capital City Civitan Club Brian and Mary Connelly Francis and Mary Lou Essic Civitan International has launched the one- Syd Fishman Memorial by Leslie Nielsen, year Restoration Fund campaign to pay Jeff Fishman, and David Fishman* *Office sponsorship: Upstairs Classroom for much-needed repairs to this building. Florida District It has been 25 years since the last major Polly and Victor Forestier repairs, which are now direly needed. The Civitan International Major Gifts Society was instituted in the summer of 2015. This program was designed to recognize individuals and couples who give Recognition Levels truly great financial support to Civitan International. This recognition can only be attained through personal contributions. Donors may elect to receive a crystal recognition piece and a specially designed pin, commemorating their gift. Pearl Level $10,000 - $24,999 Individuals and couples who contribute more than $200,000 USD become members in the Founders Society. These members will have their portraits hung at the Civitan International Headquarters. They will also be given a special crystal statue and lapel pin, and invited to a special, private event at each International Convention. Ruby Level $25,000 - $49,999 This program was launched in summer 2015, so a limited number of donors were able to contribute during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
