Of those 10, four brought home a total of Gold Medalist: Silver Medalist: five medals, including the USC track and field program’s first three gold medals won 4x100-Meter Relay 110-Meter Hurdles by former athletes Tonique Williams-Darling (Bahamas) in the 400m, Otis Harris (Jamaica) (USA) (USA) in the 4x400m relay and Aleen Bailey (Jamaica) in the 4x100m relay. Harris also won a silver medal in the 400m, while Terrence Trammell claimed his second OTIS HARRIS TONIQUE WILLIAMS-DARLING Coaches & Staff consecutive silver medal in the 110m hurdles. Former volunteer coach Melissa Former Student-Athlete Former Student-Athlete Morrison also added to her medal count with a bronze in the 100m hurdles. Other Gold Medalist: Gold Medalist: USC Olympians included Lisa Misipeka, Michelle Fournier, Brad Snyder, Lashinda 4x400-Meter Relay 400-Meter Dash Demus, Adrian Durant and Shevon Stoddart, as well as former volunteer coaches Silver Medalist: (Bahamas) Allen Johnson and Monique Hennagan. 400-Meter Dash (USA) MELISSA MORRISON Former Volunteer Coach Bronze Medal: Team Men’s 100-Meter Hurdles (USA) Women’s Team Women’s Three-time Olympian and South Carolina alum Lisa Misipeka became the first Gamecock to hold the flag for any country in the Athens Olympic Opening Ceremony. South Carolina alum Terrence Trammell won his second consecutive silver medal in the 110m hurdles. 79 22000000 OOLYMPICLYMPIC GAMESGAMES GAMECOCKS A STRONG PRESENCE SOUTH CAROLINA MEDALISTS AT AT 2000 OLYMPICS THE 2000 OLYMPICS South Carolina sent a combined 19 athletes/coaches to the 2000 Olympics in MONIQUE HENNAGAN MELISSA MORRISON Sydney, Australia, 12 of whom came from the track and field program. Graduates Former Volunteer Coach Former Volunteer Coach Charmaine Howell and Terrence Trammell both won silver medals, with Howell’s Gold Medalist: Bronze Medal: Introduction coming in the 4x400-meter relay for Jamaica and Trammell’s in the 110-meter 4x400-Meter Relay 100-Meter Hurdles hurdles for the USA. Former volunteer coach Monique Hennagan scored a gold (USA) (USA) medal as a member of the USA’s 4x400m relay squad. Another former volunteer, Melissa Morrison, received a bronze medal competing for the USA in the 100-meter CHARMAINE HOWELL TERRENCE TRAMMELL hurdles. Former Gamecocks Miki Barber, Dawn Ellerbe, Michelle Fournier, Tonique Former Student-Athlete Former Student-Athlete Williams-Darling and Marvin Watts competed in the Sydney Olympics, as well as Silver Medalist: Silver Medalist: former volunteer coach Allen Johnson. Former student-athletes Lisa Barber, Jimmie 4x400-Meter Relay 110-Meter Hurdles Hackley, Jackie Madison, Candy Mitchell, Demetria Washington, Antoinette Wilks (Jamaica) (USA) and Ellakisha Williamson were Olympic trials participants. Trammell came back to USC after turning pro to receive his degree on time in December 2002. The SEC 2006 Review History & Records South Carolina sent 19 student-athletes or coaches to Sydney for the Summer Olympics in 2000. A number of the Olympians were featured on a panel upon returning to Columbia: Allen Johnson (110m hurdles), Michelle Davison (diving), Miki Barber (4x400m relay), Melissa Morrison (100m hurdles), Charmaine Howell (800m, 4x400m relay), Monique Hennagan (400m, 4x400m relay) and head baseball coach Ray Tanner. 80 IINTERNATIONALNTERNATIONAL CCOMPETITIONOMPETITION GAMECOCKS ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE Introduction Like the summer Olympics, South Carolina has been a major force with its athletes on the international scene. Last year, a number of former Gamecocks dominated the track and field season both indoors and outdoors. In 2006, Terrence Trammell finished first in the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships, an event he won in 2001 as well. He also finished third in the 60m in 2006 at the indoor championships and was runner-up in the 110mH at the USA Outdoor Championships. Trammell won the 60mH and finished second in the 60m at the USA Indoor Championships to earn the Visa Championships title Coaches & Staff as the high point scorer of the season, a prize worth $25,000. In addition to his two Olympic silvers in the 110mH, other highlights during Trammell’s career include three USA Indoor Championship titles in the 60mH (2000, 2001, 2006), a gold in the 60m at the 2002 USA Indoors and a second-place finish in the 110mH at the 2003 World Outdoor Championships. Lisa Barber was a gold medalist at the 2006 World Indoor Championships with a win in the 60m, where she edged out world 100m champion Lauryn Wil- liams to join Gail Devers as the only American woman to win the 60m at the international event. Barber was the USA indoor 60m champion last year as well and like Trammell claimed the Visa Championships title for the indoor season. Team Men’s She was a gold medalist in the 100m at the USA Outdoor Championships in 2005. Barber has been a member of three first-place relays teams in the 4x400m and 4x100m at the 2003 and 2005 World Outdoor Championships and the 4x400m at the 2001 World University Games. Not to be outdone in 2006, Lashinda Demus won $100,000 as the Visa Championships Series winner for the outdoor season on the women’s side. She won the 400mH at the USA Outdoor Championships to defend her title from the previous year. At the World Outdoor Championships in 2005, Demus finished second in the 400mH. Additionally, Demus was the 2002 World and USA Junior Team Women’s champion and the 1999 Pan Am junior champ. Other notable performances by the Gamecocks in international competitions are listed below: Lisa Barber, Demetria Washington and Miki Barber were members of the winning 4x400m relay team at the 2001 World University Games.
