A year since lifting the trophy in Portugal, De Haan has put the finishing touches on a new-look squad and is anxious to get back down to business. "Things have been going well, but now it's getting really exciting," he said. Homecoming The sun beat down on the Jong Oranje as De Haan put his players through a final training session in Langezwaag, a short hop from the Abe Lenstra Stadium which will host Sunday's opener and where De Haan made his name. "That's my stadium, I built it with my own hands," the long-time SC Heerenveen coach joked. Known simply as Foppe in these parts, the Fryslan native was born just 18km from the stadium and is very much at home here. Being hosts and holders, De Haan said, would not put undue pressure on his side. "It's very nice to play here and it's a big challenge," he said. "Now it's up to us." Secretive The Netherlands lost their first match this time last year, and De Haan insisted he would not be making the same mistake twice after "underestimating" Ukraine in Portugal.

NUFC AND STEPHEN 3. FOUNDATION NEWS 4. BOX OFFICE NEWS 5. SENSORY ROOM UPDATE 1. INTRODUCTION The new season is upon us and although we have faced the expected difficult start, we're all behind the team and believe in them wholeheartedly. The sensory room is now fully up and running, and is proving very popular. The wheelchair spaces have been increased, so we now have 234 slots available. There is more accessible seating in the Gallowgate. Change is always ongoing. I was at a meeting with the disabled supporters association (NUDSA) and they are this month celebrating 20 years in business. They are a quite remarkable group of individuals, who never fail to inspire me. The main protagonists are Gareth Beard, who you may remember had an article in last month’s newsletter and has been the Chair of NUDSA for years, Stephen Miller who is a highly decorated Paralympian, and writes in this newsletter, Ros Miller (Stephens mum / coach / boss) and the Leazes ender Joe Ayton who has been there since the start. They have produced a magnificent magazine which celebrates their 20 years and looks back at the journey. It is well worth a read if you can get a copy. NUDSA have been instrumental in working with NUFC to invoke a better deal for disabled supporters, and I hope they are even stronger in 2028 when they celebrate their 30th. • 1895-1970 – Non League 1970-1978 – Loi B Years
History Friday, 01 January 2010 00:00 1895-1970 – Non league In 1895, the Catholic University Medical School Cecilia Street Football Club was founded, entering a team in the inaugural Leinster Junior League. The team's first match was against Bohemians B in October of 1895 and ended in a 2-0 defeat. November 1895 also saw the first match against Trinity with a result of 2-0 to Cathlolic University. 1898 Catholic University qualified for the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time - and we reached the semi-final. In 1908, the Catholic University merged with University College Dublin, and the team changed name with the merger. Things weren't quite settled yet, though, as we went through a series of grounds - in Sandymount, Cowper Road, Croydon Park, Fairview and Terenure before moving to Belfield Park in 1935 and now the UCD Bowl in 2008. In the meantime, though, success had been regular. In 1914, we won the inaugural Collingwood Cup - the Irish collegiate championships. The next year, UCD won the IFA Intermediate Cup, beating Portadown 2-1 in a replay in Dalymount Park. The first match had seen UCD draw in Windsor Park on St Patrick's Day. The competition was the 'IFA' Cup because in those days before independence, the IFA governed football over the whole island, and the competition involved teams from the whole island. The Intermediate Cup was one step below the Senior Cup in importance, so it was certainly of some significance. UCD were also involved in the first ever FAI Senior Cup in 1921, when they took on a non-league side at the time, Shamrock Rovers, in Windy Arbour, losing 6-2.
