Curriculum vitae Svend Schulze MD,DMSc born 4. november 1950 Education Graduation 1976 from the medical faculty of Copenhagen University. Employments 1976-83 registrar at different departments of surgery,internal medicine, medical gastroenterology and gynecology/obstetrics. 1983-92 senior registrar at different surgical deparments (general surgery, urology, surgical gastroenterolgy). 1992-97 Chief surgeon, head of department, dept. of surgery, Sundby Hospital, Copenhagen. 1997-98 Chief surgeon, dept. of surgical gastroenterology, Hvidovre University Hospital 1998- Chief surgeon, head of department, dept. of surgical gastroenterology, Glostrup University Hospital, Copenhagen County 2008- Chief surgeon, head of department, Gastroenheden Hvidovre (incl. dept. surgery Glostrup Hospital and dept. Surgery, Amager Hospital), Hvidovre University Hospital. The fusion of the 3 departments finished July 2010. Scientific publications I have published 128 scientific papers, 95 of these in peer reviewed journals. The majority of papers deals with surgical pathophysiology, minimally invasive surgery, endoscopy or common surgical problems. I have received a gold medal at Aarhus University from 1977 (Cardiotoxicity of tricyclic antidepressant drugs). My medical thesis was defended at Copenhagen University 1993 (Humoral and neural mediators of the systemic response to surgery). I am co-editor on a danish textbook of internal medicine and surgery (including author of chapters on gastroenterology and biliary diseases), and I am author on a book for medical students on communication. I have written several book chapters (surgical pathophysiology). Chief editor on a textbook of diseases for nurses published autumn 2005, revised spring 2010. I have been invited speaker in both Europe and USA primarily on pathophysioloigical topics, and have participated in 111 oral presentations of scientific papers or lectures (mostly minimally invasive surgery, surgical pathophysiology and endoscopy). Congresses, courses and study tours I have participated in 89 congresses and international meetings on different surgical matters, and have participated in 45 postgraduate courses. Within the last 5 years I have visited 14 international hospitals, to study different laparoscopic and/or endoscopic procedures. I have participated in several courses on administration and leadership. Teaching I have been a teacher for nurses, medical students, registrars and senior registars in different surgical subjects (mainly minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy), and are an external examiner at the Medical faculty of Copenhagen. I have arranged several courses and symposia on laparoscopic surgery. I am supervisor for a registrar writing a thesis on endoscopic complications. Member of the board of Danish Surgical Society 2008-2009 Member of Patienskadeankenævnet (evaluating failures and near-failures occurring in the secondary health system)1996-2003 Member of Patientforsikringen (evaluating failures and near-failures occurring in the secondary health system) 2003- Co-editor on a official Danish internet-based webpage on diseases for family doctors (Laegehåndbogen, www.sundhed.dk) 2009- Adminstrative experience Head of three different surgical departments for approximately 20 years, including economic responsibility for a staff of actually approximately 450 employees. Presently the head of the fusioned department of these three surgical departments. The department is actually a Gastrounit, including a section with 25 beds of medical gastroenterology. Various practical and theoretical courses on administrative matters. Experience from work in scientific societies and from arranging courses and symposia. Participating in several official boards, working groups and reports from the Danish National Board of Health. .
