Among his teachers have been Dr. Jason Kwak – Associate Director Genoveva Granja, Toshko Stoyanov, Ann Schein, Yoheved Valeria Aguilar – Program Coordinator, South America Contact Kaplinsky and Julian Martin. Dr. García has been an active recitalist, soloist and lecturer in prestigious venues in Italy, YuCi Liao – China Contact Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Hungary, Canada, Israel, Jenny Knowles - Korea Contact Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Japan, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States, where he has off ered Cindy Hessong – Head Counselor and Residence Hall Director solo recitals and master classes in almost 30 states. Dr. García was chosen from a large Rebecca Garia – Counselor fi eld of contestants from 33 countries by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. to receive one of two $25,000 grants awarded to pianists in Ely Ocampo – Counselor its Fellowships of the Americas Program. Spencer Perkins – Counselor He has performed with orchestras in South America, the Middle East and the Juan Muñoz - Counselor United States, including a last-minute invitation to perform Mozart’s Double Piano Concerto with the Green Valley Chamber Orchestra in Las Vegas. He also toured Ke’er Wang - Intern Italy with the Texas State University Chamber Orchestra, performing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and most recently he was featured as guest soloist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Peter Bay. Dr. García has Mariposa Apartment Homes performed and recorded for Radio Television Hong Kong, Opus Classical Radio in Mexico City, WFMT in Chicago, TV Spain, Rogers Broadcasting Company in at Hunter Road Canada and worldwide broadcasts through Univision. Dr. García served on the faculty of the Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins University and is currently associate professor of piano and assistant director of the School of Music at Texas State University, where he is also the coordinator of the piano department. Additionally, he is the founder and director of the Texas State International Piano Festival, and faculty member at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy.

Jason Kwak Pianist Jason Kwak has already enjoyed a successful career, both as an artist and as a pedagogue. He has earned his degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Texas at Austin. His principal piano teachers include David Watkins, Barry Snyder and Nancy Garrett. Dr. Kwak is currently an associate professor of piano at Texas State University. Previously, he held teaching positions at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas Extension Program and the Austin

He is consistently in high demand for performances, master classes, lectures and adjudications on a state, national and international level. Dr. Kwak has received top prize in many piano competitions, including the Atlanta Steinway Society Competition, Handok Piano Competition, Southern Keyboard UNDING FOR THIS PROGRAM Competition, Atlanta Music Club, and the Clara Wells Piano Competition. He has F made numerous national and international appearances as a solo pianist, including PROVIDED performances with the Victoria Symphony, Jeju Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rocky IN PART BY THE Ridge Orchestra. Recent international engagements have taken Dr. Kwak all over the SAN MARCOS ARTS COMMISSION world, including stops in England, Turkey, Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea. Solo performances have taken Dr. Kwak to many notable venues and festivals, AND including performances at Seoul Arts Center, San Antonio Convention Center, Jeju TEXAS COMMISSION ON THE ARTS National Museum, Bundy Arts Center in Waitsfi eld, Vermont, and Fox eatreTh in Atlanta, as well as performances at more than 40 college campuses. He is a founding member of Trio 488, a chamber group that has performed in prestigious venues, including fi ve international conferences. An advocate of modern chamber music, Trio 488 has already commissioned and premiered several new pieces and has begun their fi rst CD project, due out this year. As an educator, Dr. Kwak is a dedicated teacher who has been recognized numerous times for teaching excellence. In 2011, he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching from Texas State University. In 2004, Dr. Kwak received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching from Texas A&M University- Kingsville.

Enrico Elisi Described by La Nueva España as “a true musician and a master of elegance, refi nement and fantasy,” pianist Enrico Elisi, top prizewinner at the Competition (Italy) and the Oporto International Competition (Portugal), regularly performs to acclaim throughout the Americas, and Asia. He has appeared in many prestigious venues such as La Fenice Th eatre, Venice; Palazzo Vecchio, ; Bibbiena Th eatre, Mantua; Pavarotti Opera House, . In North America he recently performed at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and the New York Public Library. Julian Martin Pianist Julian Martin fi rst came to international attention as winner of the Montevideo International Competition in 1975. He also received major prizes in the Casadeus/Ravel (now Cleveland International), Kapell and Bachauer competitions. In 1982, he was awarded the Jury’s Collaborative Prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition. He has since served as juror for major competitions, including the Iowa International, Montreal, American Pianists Association and Virtuosi of the Year 2000. Mr. Martin was among the original selection committee of the Gilmore Foundation in Kalamazoo. Since 1999, he has been faculty a member of the Bowdoin

Mr. Martin’s teachers include Francisco Montero Leon Fleisher, Guido Agosti and Nadia Boulanger. Program Artina McCain Pianist Artina McCain enjoys an active career as a solo and Wanderer-Fantasie, Op. 15, D. 760 Franz Schubert chamber performer, educator, adjudicator and presenter. (1791-1828) She has performed nationally and internationally including Czech Republic, Italy, China and throughout the United Etude d’execution trascendante in B Minor ‘Chasse Neige’ Franz Liszt States. McCain’s performances have recently been broadcast (1811-1886) on Chicago’s WHPK 88.5, Austin’s KUT (NPR affi liate) 90.5, Toronto 98.5 CKWR, Hong Kong’s RTHK, Houston’s Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52 Frédéric Chopin KWWJ and Classically Austin’s KMFA 89.5 Pianoforte program as both a soloist and (1810-1849) chamber musician. In the 2012-2013 season, she was a featured guest artist at the Great American Brass Band Festival, Gateways Music Festival, Texas Book Festival Improvisation and Fugue Alfred Schnittke and the Texas Music Festival. An avid chamber musician, McCain’s recordings (1934-1998) include an album of African American Spirituals and Art Songs on the Naxos Label titled “I, Too” which received an Austin Critics Table Award. A solo album including Une barque sur l’ocean from Miroirs Maurice Ravel works by Debussy and Rachmaninoff titled “Preludes at the Piano” and “Trombone (1875-1937) Czar” is available on the Kairoi Music label. Fantasie, Op. 28 Alexander Scriabin A dedicated teacher, Dr. McCain has coached at the Cleveland Institute of Music (1872-1915) Summer Chamber festival, appeared as guest artist at the Ennis Arts Commission summer concert series and on faculty at the Austin Chamber Music Center Academy and Summer Music Festival. She served on the keyboard faculty at Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, University of the Incarnate Word, Huston-Tillotson University and currently assistant professor of piano at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas. Recently, she was nominated for the 2014 Texas Music Teachers Association Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement Award. Dr. McCain graduated cum laude from Southern Methodist University studying with Carol Leone. She received her master of music from Cleveland Institute of Music and completed her doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin as a pupil of Anton Nel.

Boris Slutsky Where Texas endows talent Mr. Boris Slutsky stormed onto the international music scene when he captured not only the fi rst prize, but also the audience prize and the Wilhelm Backhaus Award at the 1981 William Kapell (University of Maryland) International Piano Competition. His long list of awards includes fi rst prizes at Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition and San Antonio International Keyboard Competition as well as major prizes at the International Bach Competition in Memory of Glenn Gould, Busoni, Rina Sala Gallo and Ettore Pozzoli international piano competitions. He made his orchestral debut at Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony in 1980. Since then he has appeared on nearly every continent as a soloist and recitalist, collaborating with such eminent conductors as Dmitri Kitaenko, Andrew Davis and Valery Gergiev. Slutsky’s more than two decades of chamber music collaborations have included performances with renowned artists, as well as a critically acclaimed recording with violinist Ilya Kaler of Schumann’s “Sonatas for Violin and Piano.” He joined the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in 1993 and serves as the Piano Department chair.

Since then, she has performed as a solo pianist and chamber musician throughout Korea and the United States. She has won several piano competitions including the American Prize in Piano Concerto division, Butler School of Music Concerto Competition, Texas State Concerto Competition, and Seoul Asia International Music Competition. Ms. Park is currently pursuing a doctoral degree under Nancy Garrett at the University of Texas at Austin, where she was awarded several scholarships including Outstanding Graduate Recitals in 2013-14, the Butler Music Excellent Scholarship, and Sidney Wright Endowed Presidential Scholarship. Previous teachers include Jason Kwak and Kyung Ae Lee.

Ellen Pavliska Ellen Pavliska began studying piano at the age of 11, winning second place in her fi rst state-level competition two years later at the age of 13. She made her orchestral debut at the age of 16 with the San Antonio Symphony at Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium and has since placed in several state, multi- state, and national level piano competitions. Ellen has studied in Austria for the past two summers, participating in the Tyrolean International Piano Academy and the Weiner Musikseminar. Ellen recently completed her junior year at the University of North Texas where she studies with Dr. Pamela Mia Paul under a full Eastman Piano Scholarship.

Mr. Sanders has collaborated with an array of distinguished artists. Guest conducting engagements in the U.S. and abroad include the San Antonio Symphony, Buff alo Partita No. 1, BWV 825 Johann Sebastian Bach Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonic, Symphoria (1685-1750) (Syracuse, New York), Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic (Czech Republic), Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Sonata in G Major, Op. 31, No. 1 Ludwig van Beethoven Lyric Opera, Corpus Christi Opera and the Round Top (1770-1827) International Festival Institute.
