Photo Many thanks to your Masters for all their time & efforts, both on the hunting field (ably supported by the Field Masters and Secretaries) and also for organising everything else so well – we are very fortunate. I am pleased to say that your Committee has agreed to the current Mastership continuing for the next season, which I am sure will be appreciated by you all, and provides good stability. The Masters have decided to alter part of the boundary between the Monday & Wednesday countries, with Eastcourt & Oaksey becoming part of the Wednesday country, which we all believe will make for better days. Thanks also to our Joint Hon. Secretaries for all their hard work & for keeping us all so well informed with their weekly emails We have just had a very good week at the Kennels, starting with the Puppy Show. The Judges, Captain Ian Farquhar and Henry Berkeley MFH, were most impressed with the new intake, so hopefully we will have success at the forthcoming Hound Shows, culminating with Royal Peterborough on 17th July. As always, huge thanks to our wonderful Puppy Walkers & to Martin Scott for his efforts & advice on the breeding side. As usual we had the Farmers Drinks the next evening, which was very well attended, followed by a very happy Patrons Lunch on the Friday when our guest speaker was our ‘old boy’ John Francome MBE, who had great tales of his times as a boy/teenager with the VWH – clearly the Pony Club put him on the right track! As always, many thanks from all to Philip and his team and to Chantelle at the Kennels for their hard work. Sadly Richard Lovett has just retired after some 30 seasons with us. We thank him for all he has done and wish him every best wish for the future. In his stead we welcome Olly Street, who has joined us from the Crawley & Horsham. We trust that he & his Family will enjoy their time with us. We are extremely fortunate to have wonderful fundraising events organised & run by special people; a wonderful Christmas dinner/ show at Nick & Frances Phillips’ barn – big thanks to Stanny D’Arcy Clark & her team; a very successful Hunt Ball – thanks to Tim Kent, Tanya Nixey, Emma Bathurst & all who helped them; a great Point to Point (such a relief after last year!) with many thanks to Lord Bathurst & his Committee, lead so well by Scarlett Howse & the helpers – over 100! Alexander Bathurst & Alex Whitaker, with support of many others put on two “Fun Rides” in Cirencester Park which not only raised good funds, but clearly very much lived up to their name – with many coming from across the Welsh border! Emma Bathurst & Penny Smallman head up the Fundraising Team & huge thanks to them & to all who help with other events without which our finances would be very different! We are also extremely fortunate to have such a strong & successful Farmers & Supporters Club to whom we are as always very grateful. Lastly, I know that you would all wish to join with me in giving thanks to the farmers and landowners who allow us to lay trails over their land. We are very fortunate in their generosity and as always, please listen carefully to any instructions from your Field Master on the day concerning farming issues. Looking forward, my best wishes for a successful and fun season, & please give our Masters your full support.
