Our View The referee will not be the only one flipping coins this weekend as both Chiefland and Bronson have scheduled homecoming games for the same night. While for most it’s likely not a big deal, there are those in the county (as well as a few outside the county) who have friends or relatives at both schools. Some of these could actually be involved in home- coming festivities. For those families, this leaves them with a difficult choice. Which game do they attend? While this may not be an issue which causes mass hysteria or even affects large numbers, it is important to those families who find themselves in this predica- ment. Administrators from county high schools should make every effort to schedule homecoming events so conflicts do not occur. A little communication between schools could go a long way in solving this dilemma. It is also possible the Levy County Schol Board could assist in coordinating these events as well. The goal of each school should be to be as inclu- sive as possible. Homecoming event schedules should be included in this effort and hopefully will in the future. Finally, The Chiefland Citizen congratulates the Cowboys are my passion students at both Chiefland and Bronson who are a If you see me around town wearing a hat, do I was approached by someone who invited me to part of this week’s homecoming celebrations and not be alarmed. Consider Some Year-end Investment Tax Moves Special thanks to the Before 2019 winds down, you may want to consider some following sponsors... investment moves that could help when you file your taxes next year. For starters, you might add to your 401(k), if your employer permits it. The more pre-tax dollars you put in, the lower your taxable income. Also, consider putting more money into your IRA. With a traditional IRA, your contributions may be fully deductible, depending on your income. Here’s one more idea: If you itemize on your taxes, think about making gifts to charitable groups. If you donate investments that have gained value since you purchased them, you will generally be able to deduct the fair market value of the investment, and you can avoid paying capital gains taxes on the appreciation. See your tax advisor and financial professional before making any of these moves. But if they make sense for you, put them to work – they could pay off when next April’s tax deadline rolls around.
