The last comprehensive list (Barrio-Amorós 2009c) included a total of 333 species, while the current catalogue lists 387 species (370 anurans, 10 caecilians, and seven salamanders), including 28 species not yet described or properly identified. Fifty species and four genera are added to the previous list, 25 species are deleted, and 47 experienced nomenclatural changes. -

The frog had extensive muscle parasitism. damage and orifices in the tegument caused by presence of 21 larvae, identified as Sarcophagidae. Ecological interactions between dipterans and anuran are poorly known. The impact of sarcophagid flies in anuran popuilations requires further study. Palabras Clave: Resumen Anura, Esta nota es el primer registro de ocurrencia de miasis generada por moscas Brasil, Sarcophagidae en anuro de la familia Leptodactylidae. El anfibio, identificado Leptodactylus latrans, como Leptodactylus latrans (Steffen, 1815), fue recolectado en el bioma Mata parasitismo. Atlântica, en el sur de Brasil. La rana presentaba extensas lesiones musculares y orificios en el tegumento generados por la presencia de 21 larvas, identificadas como Sarcophagidae. AbstrAct. various species of frogs produce foam nests that hold their eggs during development. we examined the external morphology and histology of structures associated with foam nest production in frogs of the genus Leptodactylus and a few other taxa. we found that the posterior convolutions of the oviducts in all mature female foam-nesting frogs that we examined were enlarged and compressed into globular structures. this organ-like portion of the oviduct has been called a “foam gland” and these structures almost certainly produce the secretion that is beaten by rhythmic limb movements into foam that forms the nest. however, the label “foam gland” is a misnomer because the structures are simply enlarged and tightly folded regions of the pars convoluta of the oviduct, rather than a separate structure; we suggest the name pars convoluta dilata (pcd) for this feature. -

A new cryptic frog, Eleutherodactylus beguei sp. nov., is described from the pine forests of La Munición, Yateras, Guantánamo Province, Cuba. It is sympatric with E. feichtin- geri, another recently described grass frog closely related to E. varleyi, but differs in morphol- ogy, vocalization and DNA sequences of the mitochondrial Cyt-b gene. One female of the new species was found vocalizing in response to a calling male, a behavior that is still poorly documented in anurans. Same male and female were found in axillary amplexus and sur- rounded by 9 eggs (3.5–3.7 mm in diameter) 5 hours after being isolated in a small container. INtrODUCtION After a recent review of the geographic variation of the Cuban Grass Frog Eleutherodactylus varleyi Dunn, Díaz et al. (2012) described E. feichtingeri, a cryptic species widely distributed in central and eastern Cuba. the two species differ primarily in tympanum size, supratympanic stripe pattern, and advertisement calls. Species recognition was also supported by genetic and cytogenetic data. One of the authors (SBH) conducted DNA sequence analyses that confirmed the existence of two species at La Munición, Humboldt National Park. -

It has a discontinuous distribution from Colombia to Argentina. Inter- populational differences primarily in colour pattern, as well a in some other features, have led to the recognition of seven subspecies [P. p. bolbodactyla and P. p. fusca were recently proposed to be elevated to specific status (Caramaschi and Cruz, 1998)]. DISTRIBUTION AND SUBSPECIES IN BOLIVIA For taxonomic and biogeographical reasons, the lowlands of Bolivia are an interesting area with respect to this frog. The distribution of the species in this country is poorly known. The first Bolivian record of P. paradoxa was provided by Muller and Hellmich (1936) at San Fermiin, Department of Santa Cruz. Since then, it was reported at some other localities, mostly in the Department of Santa Cruz [see De la Riva (1990) and below]. It was interesting that it was also discovered at two localities in southeastern Peru (Duellman and Salas, 1991; Henle, 1992). These discoveries made plausible that it ranges throughout the intermediate area of extensive, suitable habitat of humid savannas in the Bolivian Department of Beni. However, there is a surprising scarcity of published records for this huge and relatively (by Bolivian standards) well surveyed zone. -

M. Furtado1 and Carlos E. Costa-Campos1,* Abstract. Information on a species’ diet is important to determine habitat conditions and resources and to assess the effect of preys on the species distribution. The present study aimed describing the diet of Lysapsus bolivianus in the floodplain of the Curiaú Environmental Protection Area. Individuals of L. bolivianus were collected by visual search in the floodplain of the Curiaú River. A total of 60 specimens of L. bolivianus were euthanized with 2% lidocaine, weighed, and their stomachs were removed for diet analysis. A total of 3.020 prey items were recorded in the diet. The most representative preys were: Diptera (36.21%), Collembola (16.61%), and Hemiptera (8.31%), representing 73.20% of the total consumed prey. Based on the Index of Relative Importance for males, females, and juveniles, the most important items in the diet were Diptera and Collembola. The richness of preys recorded in the diet of L. bolivianus in the dry season was lower than that of the rainy season. Regarding prey abundance and richness, L. bolivianus can be considered a generalist species and a passive forager, with a diet dependent on the availability of preys in the environment. Keywords. It differs from tadpoles of other species of Sphaenorhynchus in having a short spiracle, submarginal papillae, and alternating short and large marginal papillae in the oral disc. Some larval characteristics, like morphology and position of the nostrils, length of the spiracle, and size of the marginal papillae on the oral disc are discussed for tadpoles of other species of Sphaenorhynchus.
