It has created “Ningguo Miracle” since 1990s. Its general economic capacity has been ranked #1 (the first) among all the counties or cities in Anhui Province since 2000. In order to analyze the influencing factors of competitive advantages of Ningguo City and explain “Ningguo Miracle”, this article have evaluated, analyzed and classified the general economic competitiveness of 61 counties (cities) in Anhui Province in 2004, by 14 indexes of evaluation index system. The result showed that compared with other counties (cities) in Anhui Province, Ningguo City has more advantages in competition. The competitive advantage of Ningguo City is due to the productivities, the effect of the second industry and industry, and the investment of fixed assets. Then the influencing factors of Ningguo’s competitiveness in terms of productivity were analyzed with authoritative data since 1990 and a log linear regression model was established by stepwise regression method. The results demonstrated that the key influencing factor of Ningguo City’s competitive advantage was the change of industry structure, especially the change of manufacture structure. -

Displaced persons 1. Displaced persons (DPs) may be classified in one of the following three groups by eligibility for compensation: A. those who have formal legal rights to land (including customary and traditional rights recognized under the laws of the country); B. those who do not have formal legal rights to land at the time the census begins but have a claim to such land or assets—provided that such claims are recognized under the laws of the country or become recognized through a process identified in the resettlement plan; and C. those who have no recognizable legal right or claim to the land they are occupying. 2. We studied overwintering habitats selection of Bufo gargarizans during 2005-2008 in southwestern China. Our results showed most toads buried themselves in the ground. By comparing hibernation and post-reproductive dormancy sites, we found that the latter was closer to ponds with higher vegetable cover and shallower than hibernation sites. It indirect proves that toads consume large energy in the breeding season and a small quantity remains for the dormancy period. Royle Safaris Sichuan Mammals Tour Trip Report
In March 2019 Royle Safaris ran our second specialist Sichuan Mammals Tour with a focus on a particularly special species. The trip was run with Martin Royle, Roland Zeidler & Sid Francis as our guides. We visited 3 different locations (covering the rugged bamboo forests of the greater Wolong ecosystem, the high altitude grasslands of Rouergai and the wonderful forests of Tangjiahe. We were very successful with sightings of 44 different species of mammals and over 100 species of birds including Giant Panda, Red Panda, Pallas’s Cat, Chinese Mountain Cat, Indochinese Leopard Cat, Particoloured Flying Squirrel, Golden Snub-nosed Monkey, Chinese Ferret Badger, Eurasian Otter and Chinese Pipistrelle. We ran a second Sichuan’s Mammals Tour (back to back with this one) in April 2019 and we had even more success in some areas. The sightings log for that trip will follow in a few days. We have started to promote our 2020 Sichuan Mammals Tour (with special focus on a particular special species for half of the trip); we have already received many bookings on these two trips. Our first tour for 2020 (9th – 22nd March 2020) has just one place remaining and our second tour for 2020 (25th April – 8th May 2020) which also has only one place remaining. We have also started offering places on another specialist mammal tour of China, visiting Qinghai and the wonderful Valley of the Cats. This tour is for July 2020 (1st – 15th July 2020) and focuses on Snow leopards, Eurasian lynx, Himalayan wolf, Himalayan brown bear, Tibetan antelope, Wild Yak, White-lipped deer, Alpine musk deer, Glover’s pika, Bharal, McNeil’s deer and many more species. -

Pollution Level and Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Sewage Sludge

Area of study: Wuhu, located in southeastern Anhui Province, southeastern China. Material and methods: The sewage sludge pollution assessment employed the single-factor pollution index, Nemerow’s synthetic po- llution index, monomial potential ecological risk coefficient and potential ecological risk index. The potential sources among the five heavy metals were determined using the Pearson’s correlation analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). Main results: The mean concentrations of the heavy metals were 0.27 mg/kg (Hg), 70.78 mg/kg (Pb), 3.48 mg/kg (Cd), 143.65 mg/kg (Cr) and 22.17 mg/kg (As). W1, W5 and W6 sewage sludge samples showed the highest levels of heavy metal contamination, and cadmium had the highest contamination level in the study area. Pearson’s correlation analysis and PCA revealed that Pb and Cd mainly derived from traffic emissions and the manufacturing industry and that As and Cr originated from agricultural discharges. -

Financial management assessment (FMA) of the executing agency (EA) and implementing agencies (IAs) has been conducted for the Project in accordance with ADB’s Guidelines for the Financial Management and Analysis of Projects1 and the publication Financial Due Diligence–A Methodology Note. 2 The FMA includes review of executing agency and implementing agency, funds flow arrangement, the staff of finance, accounting policies and procedures (segregation of duties, budgeting system, payments, policies and procedures, cash and banking, safeguarding assets, other Offices and implementing agencies), internal and external auditing, reporting and monitoring, and information systems. The instrument used for the assessment was Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) financial management assessment questionnaire (FMAQ). 2. Anhui Provincial Department of Transport (APDOT), as the EA, Wuwei County Transportation Bureau (WCTB), Nanling County Transportation Bureau (NCTB), Chizhou Municipal Highway Administration Bureau (CMHAB), Ma’anshan Municipal Highway Administration Bureau (MMHAB) and Anhui Provincial Port and Shipping Construction Investment Group Co. Ltd (APPSCIG), as the IAs, have been assessed respectively. During the 50th Earth Day, we organized lotus volunteers to carry out voluntary service activities and distributed promotion materials on science popularization and environmental education. During the 50th Earth Day, we carried out Science Popular and Environmental Educational Exhibition in Jiuhuashan Tourist Center, and about 32 panels were displayed. During the 50th Earth Day, we invited geopark expert to carry out science popularization activity in Jiuhua Town. During the 50th Earth Day, we carried out science popularization activity in Chizhou University, and about 200 students from School of Resource and Environment attended this activity. In May, we attended the Opening Ceremony of Dabieshan UGGp, and the International Symposium on Geoparks and Regional Economic development.
