Challenges And Blessings Of Practising Yoga

oga looks like a challenge, it is so different. One has to have a So each step in yoga becomes a challenge, becomes a certain effort. Yoga very serious motivation to take up a subject like this and then to is not something which one can carry on while maintaining one’s own Ypursue it because basically yoga is a discipline. Whether it is in nature and old ways. There is no justification then to take to yoga. If you sitting, whether it is in diet, whether it is in some kind of a code of life want to live as you like and do whatever you think is right, if you want to whether it is in thinking, it definitely wants us to act in a certain way. And be carried away by all your earlier desires and tendencies, what is the need since we are all deeply rooted in our old ways, it is not easy to make a of yoga for you? The fact that you have decided to take to yoga would change. At every step there is a challenge. mean that you have already put in an effort, that you have worked on certain tendencies, some work has been done. Not only with yoga but this In our old literature they tell this, that a spiritual path is for the strongest. is true of any activity. If you decide in any activity, you have to definitely There is a lot of meaning in that because the weak persons want easy discipline yourself and make some changes. You can’t just sleep the things. They want things that can immediately please them. But this is not whole day still want to achieve something in life. the way of yoga. Yoga is trying to control and overcome some of our own, old tendencies. It’s our tendency to react fast if someone provokes In yoga, the goals are much higher than the ordinary kind of goals. The us, immediately getting angry and hitting back. Or to see something good ordinary goals may not need much effort; a little effort is enough. But and want to have it or possess it, this is the usual tendency. To work here the objective is to completely control oneself, to overcome one’s against these tendencies, it just doesn’t convince us, “why should I do own nature, to establish oneself in a better state of mind, a better that?” , “why should I not eat what I like?”, “Why should I not do what I understanding of life, to realize oneself. All these things are harder than think i should do?” the very ordinary kind of interest one holds. To eat, drink and be merry is easier than understanding oneself and overcoming one’s own nature. To Even a posture becomes an inconvenience because it causes a little establish oneself in a better state would mean more work. Yoga is discomfort, a little pain. To sit in an artificial posture causes discomfort. interested in this. The discipline that it insists correspondingly puts us It definitely is a challenge. But we can meet the challenge to the extent into a much superior state of mind. So the discipline in that sense is very that we are motivated. If we recognize that a physical discipline would welcome. You see, becoming a person who maintains very clear headed have an effect on the mind and would cause certain mental control, if we thinking and has a balanced state of mind, I think, would be a very believe in all that, then there is sense in sitting in a certain way. worthwhile objective in comparison to a person who is highly distracted, very confused and does things impulsively. The same things are at other levels. The tendency to react; no doubt if we react against a provocation, we feel as if we have relieved off a tension. But when we react, we get angry, we sometimes act too fast, too quick, without understanding. Later on, it may happen that we feel sad also, “why did I get angry?” The whole process causes an unbalancing of the mind. In a way, this is the worst thing that could happen to us, to lose our own balance, lose our own peace and act in some way which later on we would regret. That is why yoga would insist that we should control our behavior, control our reactions. Otherwise, we get into the vicious circle of getting angry and responding and there is no end to the whole thing.

In other areas too, the mind likes to just wander, doesn’t like to remain fixed. We enjoy this. We want to think that we are free and we do what we like, but in doing that, very often we are not able to attend to something Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra, Former President, for very long. When we don't attend to thing for very long. When we The Yoga Institute. don’t attend to things for long, then we don’t really understand things. Most of our thinking is based on very cursory kind of observations. No doubt these observations do help as we are carrying on like this in life.

YOGASATTVA 25 TESTIMONIALS CELEBRATING 100 YEARS

ASHISH BAHAD, It has been a pleasant experience with The Yoga Institute. In 2016 Indian Bank CHIEF MANAGER, INDIAN collaborated with The Yoga Institute to celebrate International Day of Yoga. Being a BANK banker and having a busy schedule from morning to night, Yoga has helped me to manage my day with ease and be fit. The teacher has taught some effective asanas which I can perform at my work desk. Yogic kriyas teaches Yoga as a way of life. According to me everyone must do Yoga.

AMRITA RAO, RENOWNED BOLLYWOOD ACTRESS About 4 months ago, I faced nearly 25 days or more of sleepless nights at a stretch due to anxiety. I prayed at several temples, felt suffocated, the thought of medication and going for psychiatric counselling was scary. I thought of Hansaji and I immediately requested to meet her. When I entered Hansaji's room there was a strong aura of clean positive energy. She spoke to me gently and lovingly. Just sharing my symptoms and fears with her made me feel lighter. I thought Hansaji would tell me to do Yoga to overcome anxiety but instead she shared some Panchatantra stories. At the end of many such entertaining stories and the DHARMESH SUKHADIA, interesting chitchat with Hansaji, she told me to visit her once a week till I TEACHER AT THE YOGA felt fine. She also gave me some simple INSTITUTE homework mostly for the mind. At sun set I walked out of Her room feeling almost healed. I’m really grateful to The Yoga Institute and Hansaji.

My association with the institute is since year 1998. I started coming regularly in morning asana class since 2004. I regularly attended TYI since then. Taking a morning walk at the “ institute, attending Parisamvad & then doing asana for 45 min was my routine for 10 years. I did my teachers training in 2014. Life has seen lot of ups & down but learnings from the Institute has kept steadfast in all anomalies of life. I’m indebted to my Guru Dr Saab & Hansaji who have always been a guiding light in my life. Currently I'm teaching at the Institute, honorary. Learning from TYI is - how to press pause & reflect on what I’m grateful for.

TESTIMONIALS CELEBRATING 100 YEARS

Why Yoga? I have to say that before coming here I thought that yoga was just doing VERONICA RELANO, Asanas, and for example, my parents thought that it was just a hippie activity. In STUDENT FROM SPAIN European countries we have a misconception of the Yoga term and we are also not very open to understand Yoga in a broader way. Over there, it is difficult to find real Gurus and proper knowledgeable people. Here, the 3 MTTC is being a very intensive “ experience, full of theory and practice but also fun. This course requires all your senses, energy, concentration, and open-mindedness but once you bring all these with you, half of the learning process is acquired. During this time, I also participated as a volunteer in a kids’ workshop, which gave me an idea about how Yoga could be presented to different groups. Once my 3 MTTC is finished, I’ve decided to take all the experiences that The Yoga Institute is awakening in me. Hopefully, this can make a change in the misconception of what Yoga is in some European countries.

MANISH SANGHAI, The philosophy, techniques and SADHAKA practical tips along with attitude training imparted by TYI during that 4 hour session of Karma Yoga Workshop had a profound impact on me personally and on my business. It helped me envision a higher purpose of doing business and gaining better clarity of thoughts. The fear and the inhibitions had been replaced by faith. I have travelled more for research and execution in past 4 months that I have done in past many years. Our brand which was written off by competitors and various stakeholders in April 2018 is now being praised to be one of the most reputed brands in the country. I can now find out time for things I love to do and at the same time I have the VIJAY SINGH, realisation of my duty and I strive to do SADHAKA it with dedication and devotion.

I am proud to say that I belong to this wonderful temple of knowledge, The Yoga Institute. I did One Month Teachers’ Training Course and then One Year Teacher's Training Course several years ago. I had always wished to be the part of this wonderful Institution. This Institute is nothing less than I hoped. It has taught me the things beyond just knowledge and helped me to broaden my horizon to live a meaningful life that I love. The classes are very interactive, faculties ensure that every student understands what is being taught before proceeding. For me, life at The Yoga Institute has been breathtaking and enriching. It not only helped in learning the TRUE Yoga but also in developing my overall personality, fuelling confidence. My sincere thanks to all the teachers, Mother, Doctor Saab, Smt. Hansaji, Nani Ji, Shri Hrishi Ji and Smt. Pranee Ji, they had played a crucial role in shaping me. Thank You, The Yoga Institute for making this journey so pleasant.
