Prime Minister to New York for U.N. Millennium Summit Japan Information and Culture Center, EMBASSY OF JAPAN PRIME MINISTER TO NEW YORK FOR U.N. MILLENNIUM SUMMIT Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori traveled to New York Sept. 5 for the special U.N. Millennium Summit attended by 150 world leaders. In his address, the Prime Minister stressed the need for the world community to concentrate on "human security" in the P new century, so that, "each person on this earth can be free from fear and want and enjoy lasting prosperity," and said "Japan will spare no effort to make the 21st century a human-centered century." He noted that Japan has to date contributed more than $80 million to the U.N. "Human Security Fund," established in March and he pledged $100 million more. Mr. Mori highlighted the need for U.N. reform, the expansion of the Security Council, and the need to stress nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and said Japan will submit a new draft resolution on the elimination of nuclear weapons. Japan, he said, "is resolved to redouble its efforts to more actively fulfill its SEPT 2 0 0 0 responsibility and its role in the international community."     Foto: Brasil2016.gov.br Ginástica Artística Beleza, força e plasticidade Apesar de atualmente estar configurada como esporte moderno, atividades ginásticas já eram praticadas em grande escala em civilizações antigas, porém, sem o mesmo regramento e princípios científicos e técnicos atuais. Além disto, as práticas da antiguidade mantinham sempre um caráter utilitário e/ou religioso: em Roma era utilizada com fim de preparar os soldados para campanhas militares ou gladiadores para entreter o público nos famosos anfiteatros; na Grécia, principalmente, como instrumento de culto aos Deuses, na maioria das vezes, Zeus – prática desenvolvida nos famosos jogos gregos, sendo o maior deles, os jogos olímpicos. Durante a Idade Média, as atividades físicas em geral foram consideradas atos desviantes pela igreja católica, que defendia apenas o exercício intelectual conduzido pelos valores da rígida doutrina cristã, como meio correto para o desenvolvimento do homem submisso à Deus. Assim, eram comuns casos extremos nos quais indivíduos que demonstravam cuidados com o corpo considerados exagerados, portanto, em desacordo com os ideários católicos apostólicos romanos. Nestes casos radicais, as punições eram aquelas já famosas torturas físicas, características dessa época de trevas. Dessa forma a ginástica ficou por um tempo relegada a segundo plano, ao menos no ocidente, onde mantiveram-se restritas a práticas militares e religiosas, tendo em vista a necessidade bélica para o enfrentamento nas guerras santas, conhecidas como “Cruzadas”. Após esse período de efetivo controle na Europa Ocidental, ao menos aquela parte sob influência do Vaticano, começou a despontar o movimento que sutilmente, a partir das artes e da ciência, perspectiva uma nova concepção de “homem”, o mesmo foi chamado de Renascimento.
