Our Communion Practice We practice “member” communion, also called “close” communion. If you are a guest and are not yet a member of our fellowship/congregation, we invite you to learn more about us before joining us at the communion table. To learn more about our faith and fellowship, speak with either pastor. If you are a member of St. Peter’s or one of our sister congregations of the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod and wish to commune, please make out a communion card from the pew and hand it to the usher at communion. Thank you! Principles and Promises of Proverbs – Stewardship Series Proverbs are highly compressed, carefully chosen words of wisdom. They are words to live by. In this Stewardship series, we will pursue God’s principles and promises. Martin Luther wrote: “The book may justly be called a book on good works, in which Solomon instructs young people in particular to lead a good life before God in this world.”

Prayer Before Worship Heavenly Father, keep us from resentful hearts that would begrudge Your mercy or live selfishly for ourselves and teach us to live for You the life that You have given us, treasuring in our hearts all that is good and wise and seeking after these things. Hear us, O Lord, and give answer to our prayers in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

INVOCATION ..

M: The grace of our LordJesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you C: And also with you.

CONFESSION 1 JOHN 1:8-9

M: God invites us to come into His presence and worship Him with humble and penitent hearts. Therefore, let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask Him to forgive us. All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed You in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve Your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

ABSOLUTION JOHN 20:21-23

M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given His only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you

all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Sonand of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

PRAYER AND PRAISE Kyrie

M: For all that we need in life and for the wisdom to use all Your gifts with gratitude and joy, hear our prayer, O Lord.

M: For the steadfast assurance that nothing can separate us from Your love and for the courage to stand firm against the assaults of Satan and every evil, hear our prayer, O Christ.

M: For the well-being of Your holy Church in all the world and for those who offer here their worship and praise, hear our prayer, O Lord.

3

M: Merciful God, maker and preserver of life, uphold us by Your power and keep us in Your tender care.

FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON PROVERBS 3:9-15 By Giving Our Best 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits from your entire harvest.10 Then your barns will be filled to capacity, and your wine vats will overflow with fresh wine. 11 Do not reject the Lord’s discipline, my son, and do not despise his warning, 12 because the Lord warns the one he loves as a father warns a son with whom he is pleased. 13 How blessed is the person who finds wisdom, the person who acquires understanding, 14 because the profit it gives is better than the profit from silver, and its yield is better than gold! 15 It is more valuable than gems, and nothing you desire can equal it.

SOLO FOR THE HONOR Soloist: Daniel Roemhildt

1 For the honor of the Father 2 For the honor of The Savior Who reaches out to us Let the cross be lifted high That we might live inside His love The great exchange of love and grace He gave His only Son Came down to give us life

3 For the honor of The Spirit 4 For the honor of Your kingdom Whose power lives in us Whose reign will never end That we might see much greater things We'll give our lives in sacrifice As we embrace Your love Until You come again

Forever, forever. We'll honor You forever

For the Honor: by , Chris Brown, Wade Joye & Mack Brock. Arranged by Dan Galbraith/Brad Henderson (praisecharts.com). Used by permission.

SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON I TIMOTHY 6:17-19 By Guarding Against Greed 17 Instruct those who are rich in this present age not to be arrogant or to put their hope in the uncertainty of riches, but rather in God, who richly supplies us with all things for our enjoyment. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they are storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

VERSE OF THE DAY ROMANS 15:4

Alleluia. Whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that, through patient endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we would have hope. Alleluia.

THE GOSPEL OF THE DAY MATTHEW 19:16-26 By Following Jesus as Our Treasure 16 There was a man who came to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing should I do that I may have eternal life?” 17 Jesus said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? Only one is good. But if you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” the man asked him. Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. 19 Honor your father and mother.’ And, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” 20 The young man said to him, “I have kept all these. What am I still lacking?” 21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had many possessions. 23 Jesus said to his disciples, “Amen I tell you: It will be very hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, “Who then can be saved?” 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Honor the Lord 1. Show That He Comes First 2. Because He Promises Blessing Please stand.

STATEMENT OF FAITH NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, Eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER AND LORD’S PRAYER MATTHEW 6:9-13

Our Father in Heaven Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and forever. Amen.

LORD’S SUPPER THE SACRAMENT CHRISTIAN WORSHIP page 33

M: The Lord be with you.

M: Lift up your hearts.

M: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

M: Praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In love He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. He sends the Holy Spirit to testify that we are His children and to strengthen us when we are weak. Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ. To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and thanks and honor and glory for ever and ever:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY SANCTUS

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night He was betrayed, took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is the new testament in My blood, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

M: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

Private Prayer before Communion (Christian Worship, p. 10) Lord, I am not worthy to be a guest at Your holy table. But You are the friend of sinners, and You will not cast me out. This bread is Your body, which bore my sins upon the tree. This wine is Your blood, which purifies me from all guilt. At Your invitation, I come rejoicing. Receive me, my Savior.

THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE LORD’S HOLY SUPPER

12

Private Prayer after Communion (Christian Worship, p. 10) Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, for nourishing me in this sacrament with Your body and blood. You have given me forgiveness, life, and salvation. Let me always remain in You as a branch remains in the vine. Send me out in the power of Your Spirit to live and work to Your praise and glory.

Communion Hymn 355 – Take the World, but Give Me Jesus

13

Please stand THANKSGIVING

M: Hear the prayer of Your people, O Lord, that the lips which have praised You here may glorify You in the world, that the eyes which have seen the coming of Your Son may long for His coming again, and that all who have received in His true body and blood the pledge of Your forgiveness may be restored to live a new and holy life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

M: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and  give you peace.

Practical Wisdom for Christians Today

Our study continues and picks up where we left off last Fall. However, even if you missed last Fall’s study, you are welcome to attend as we delve into God’s Word and apply His Word to our day to day lives. Each class will give you something to think about. Each class will give you something to take home and apply to your life. Each class will help you to understand God’s Word better and through that Word, strengthen your faith.

In this round of classes, we will study 1 Corinthians 7-10, God gives clear and compelling answers to some of life's most important questions.  What is love?  What is God’s will for marriage?  Is it better to be single or married?  Who am I truly – what is my identity?  What about God’s view on my career?  What does God say about dealing with a friend who is sinning?  How can personal conflicts be resolved?

Class continue on Sundays, at 8:45am (conveniently scheduled in between our Sunday morning worship.) Drop off the kids at Sunday School, which meets at the same time, and join us.

The class will be taught by Pastor Joel T. Sauer and will meet in the Social Hall at St. Peter's.
