Blues Underground Network David Gogo "Christmas With The Blues" (Canada) I will be the first to admit that I really like the good old fashioned Christmas songs, White Christmas, Twelve Days Of Christmas, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, and countless others, sung by the greats Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Gene Autry, Perry Como, and Jose Feliciano, to name just a few. I also really like the modern day artists that have stepped forward, putting a little polish on the old standards or offering up their own originals, such as David Gogo's absolutely amazing new release, "Christmas With The Blues", which offers up 9 blues inspired Tracks of both standards and originals. Now David Gogo would certainly not have been my first thought as someone whom would of put out a Christmas Album, in fact he never thought he would either, never the less, he has and boy it quickly has become a favorite around here this Christmas Season and will for many more to come. Using his superb Vocals and amazing stinging Guitar work, David Gogo slices through 9 Tracks as effortlessly as a hot knife slicing through butter, but it isn't just Gogo that brings the magic to this little gem, it is also the stellar lineup of artists he brought along with him on this journey, which included greats Bill Hicks (Drums), Marisha Devoin (Acoustic Stand-Up Bass), David Vest (Piano), Phil Dwyer (Saxophones and Piano on Track 5), Jay Stevens (Bass on Track 9), Tina Jones & Camille Miller (Vocals Track 9), and Shawn Hall (Harmonica). -

Neville Brothers -- the first Family of New Orleans Music -- Has Vowed Not to Return to New Orleans
Dec. 15, 2005-- Cyril Neville boarded Amtrak's City of New Orleans train with a full head of steam. He joined singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie earlier this month for the first leg of a 12-day journey from Chicago to New Orleans, playing concerts along the way to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Neville, however, won't be on the train when it rolls into his old hometown. He won't be going home at all. Neville, 56, percussionist-vocalist and youngest member of the Neville Brothers -- the first family of New Orleans music -- has vowed not to return to New Orleans. During a heartfelt conversation before embarking on the train journey, Neville explained he and his wife, Gaynielle, have bought a home in Austin, Texas. Cyril Neville joins his nephew Ivan Neville, as well as the Radiators and the Iguanas as popular New Orleans acts who have settled in Austin. Some even perform in an ad hoc band known as the Texiles. They sing a different song about the promised recovery of New Orleans. "Would I go back to live?" Neville asked. "There's nothing there. And the situation for musicians was a joke. People thought there was a New Orleans music scene -- there wasn't. You worked two times a year: Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. The only musicians I knew who made a living playing music in New Orleans were Kermit Ruffins and Pete Fountain. Everyone else had to have a day job or go on tour. I have worked more in two months in Austin than I worked in two years in New Orleans. -

PATTO – the JOHN HALSEY INTERVIEW Patto, apart from being one of the finest (purely subjective, of course) bands this country ever produced, were not blessed with good fortune. Forever on the verge of making it really big, they broke up after six years of knocking on the door and finding no-one home. Subsequently, two of their number died while the other two were involved in a terrible car smash which left one with severe physical injuries and the other with severe mental problems. Drummer John Halsey is now the only Patto member who could possible give us an interview. Mike Patto and Ollie Halsall are both gone, while bassist Clive Griffiths apparently doesn't even recall being in a band! Despite bearing the scars of the accident (Halsey walks with a pronounced limp), John was only too pleased to submit to a Terrascopic grilling - an interview which took place in the wonderful Suffolk pub he runs with his wife Elaine. Bancroft and I spent a lovely afternoon and evening with the Halseys, B & B'd in the shadow of a 12th Century church cupboard and returned to London the next morning with one of the most enjoyable interviews either of us has ever done. John Halsey: I started playing drums because two mates who lived in my road in North Finchley (N. London), where I'm from, wanted to form a group. This was years and years ago, 1958, 1959. Colin Linden Colin Kendall Linden (born 16 April 1960) is a Canadian musician, songwriter and record producer. He has worked with a wide variety of artists, including Bruce Cockburn, Lucinda Williams, T-Bone Burnett, Colin James, Leon Redbone, Rita Chiarelli, Chris Thomas King, the Band, and Bob Dylan. Linden is a versatile guitarist, both on acoustic and electric guitars, specializing in slide guitar and country blues and ragtime fingerpicking. He frequently collaborates with country and folk performers. He is also a member, with Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson, of the group Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Early years Linden was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada When he was still an infant, his family moved to White Plains, New York. The ten-year-old Linden heard rock performers in New York venues, such as Van Morrison, the Flying Burrito Brothers, James Taylor, John Mayall, Johnny Winter and Taj Mahal 1970s When the family moved back to Toronto, Linden became interested in performers such as Taj Mahal, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Howlin' Wolf. When Howlin' Wolf played at Toronto’s Colonial Tavern, the then-11-year-old Linden spent three hours talking with the elder bluesman. A young Linden began performing at a local coffee house, the Fiddler’s Green Coffee House, singing and strumming a guitar. By 1973, Linden began learning how to finger pick. When Linden met David Wilcox, Linden decided to learn how to play slide guitar. Wilcox gave 140 blues albums to young Linden, to help Linden to learn about blues styles. Paul Mills, the producer of Sylvia Tyson’s Touch the Earth show, at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and an outlet on CBC Radio for acoustic roots music, booked Linden in 1975 . -

At the end of the night, beating drums around the house as a kid – the kitchen was the it was time for more food, and that’s when my Aunt Gert would next room over and there was always something stewing on the be ready to sell you a potato salad, a fried chicken sandwich or a stove. In Louisiana, we have a passion for music, food and fun. hot sausage link boiled, with a side order of crackers and mustard. My family loves to cook outside on burners and in big cast I was brought up with different types of cooks in my family. My iron skillet pots – that way, nobody gets left out, there’s enough grandmother was a slow cook, she believed in taking her time food for everyone. We also like to compete against each other and letting the food simmer. We’d run into the house and ask if when cooking. Nowadays, being the eldest of 10, I sit back and the food was ready, and she’d say, “No, and get out of here. Go watch my younger siblings cook because they all think they’re back into the yard and play.” We would be really hungry when it the best in the world. They show up for a big cookout, each came to eating time, but it was well worth the wait. -

Formed in August 1968, Rush would join artists like Pink Floyd and Yes in shaping the music movement that would come to be categorized as “progressive” rock, or “prog rock,” a rock music sub-genre that Rush. Neville/ Jacobs Bio Long: Ivan Neville of New Orleans’ first family of funk and Cris Jacobs, the soulful Baltimore-bred bandleader and songwriter, have joined forces to collaborate on their first full length, self-titled, nine song album. th Neville Jacobs will release their debut on September 28 via Harmonized Records. This unlikely duo came together in the most unlikely of ways. One day during the great celebration and intermingling of music and culture known as New Orleans Jazz Fest, Ivan Neville and Cris Jacobs found themselves killing time between gigs, seated next to each other at a poker table. As Jacobs tells it, “I was killing some time one day during my first ever Jazzfest and I sat down to play some poker in Harrah's casino. Coincidentally, there was an empty seat next to me and in walked Ivan and sat down. We recognized each other from having crossed paths with our bands, Dumpstaphunk and The Bridge, but had never really met. We played poker for a few hours and chatted a bunch and left with a casual ‘let's make some music together sometime’ agreement.” About a year and a half later, when the stars finally aligned (with the help of mutual friend, Joe Michaels), Jacobs and Neville got together for a few songwriting sessions in Baltimore. “In our initial writing sessions in Baltimore, we each had a few songs and snippets of songs in our back pocket and we took a bunch of time to just start from scratch with Ivan at a piano and me sitting next to him with a guitar.
