The site is immediately adjacent to the M6 motorway towards the west, Borwick Lane to the north and Kellet Lane to the east with the River Keer running along the southern boundary of the site. The site is characterised by its extensive amount of open water consisting of 9 active fishing lakes spanning an overall site area of approximately 72 acres (29 hectares) with a dual pitched timber clad restaurant/café building (Catch 23) and car park located in close proximity to the entrance. The whole site is relatively flat with mainly grassed surfaces and sporadic groves of trees on small islands within the lakes. There is also a recently-engineered earth bund and a belt of mature trees positioned between the M6 Motorway along the western boundary of the site. -

Paul Lintott Summary Urbanisation is a key driver in the loss, fragmentation and modification of natural habitats resulting in the global loss of biodiversity. As the human population, and consequently the rate of urbanisation, continues to increase exponentially it is important to understand how to sustain and enhance biodiversity within the built environment. Cities comprise a complex assortment of habitat types yet relatively little is known of how its composition and spatial configuration can influence species presence or foraging activities. It is therefore necessary to examine habitat use and biodiversity patterns at multiple spatial scales to fully understand how species are responding to the urban matrix. There are few other orders of animals that are as strongly associated with people as bats (Chiroptera); for some bat species human habitations provide roosts and adaptations of the environment provide food sources. However bat species richness generally declines with increasing urbanisation indicating that many species are not able to persist in highly urbanised areas. In this thesis, I show that the behaviour, habitat preferences, and distribution of bats are strongly influenced by the built environment at both a local and landscape scale. -

He informed members that Keir was no longer the maintaining agent in Cumbria and this was now Highways England. Members noted that a number of key colleagues from Keir had transferred to Highways England and that there would be a significant change in the delivery of services in the future. The Sub-Group were informed that a Route Strategy Refresh would be undertaken following a call for evidence during the summer where high level issues had been identified in the Barrow district. -

A total of 886 taxa were found. Einleitung Der 19. Südtiroler Tag der Artenvielfalt wurde am 30. Juni 2018 im Talschluss von Ulten abgehalten. Wie in den Jahren zuvor oblag dem Naturmuseum Südtirol sowohl die Organisation im Vorfeld als auch die Koordination vor Ort. Begleitend zu den Felderhebungen der zahlreichen Fachleute (siehe einzelne Beiträge) war ein didakti- sches Rahmenprogramm vorgesehen, das eine vogelkundliche und eine naturkundliche Wanderung im Untersuchungsgebiet (Organisation: Nationalpark Stilfserjoch unter der Koordination von Ronald Oberhofer) sowie ein Kinder- und Familienprogramm im Nationalparkhaus Lahnersäge in St. Gertraud umfasste (Organisation und Durchführung durch die Mitarbeiterinnen des Naturmuseums Südtirol Johanna Platzgummer, Elisabeth Waldner und Verena Preyer). Many Flea Beetles are among the most affective jumpers in the animal kingdom, sometimes better than their namesakes the true Fleas (Siphonaptera). However, despite some intensive study of the anatomy and function of the metafemoral spring (Barth, 1954; Ker, 1977) the true function of this jumping mechanism remains a mystery. It probably is some sort of voluntary Catch, in- volving build-up of tension from the large muscles that insert on the metafemoral spring (Fig. 1), and theo a quick release of this energy. Ofcourse some Flea Beetles jump better than others, but basically all have this internal metafemoral spring floating by attachment from large muscles in the relatively enlarged bind femoral capsule (see Fig. 1 ). In fact Flea Beetles can usually be easily separated from other beetles, including chrysomelid subfa- milies, by their greatly swollen bind femora. There are a few genera of Alticinae that have a metafemoral spring and yet do not jump. Actually there are a few genera that are considered to be Alticinae that lack the metafemo- ral spring, e. g. Orthaltica (Scherer, 1974, 1981b - as discussed in this Symposium). Also the tribe Decarthrocerini contains three genera from Africa that Wilcox (1965) con- sidered as Galerucinae, but now thinks to be intermediate between Galerucinae and Alti- cinae; at least one of these genera does have a metafemoral spring (Wilcox, personal communication, and Fürth, unpublished data). -

We, the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, having carried out our initial review of the electoral arrangements for the City of Lancaster in . accordance with the requirements of section 63 of, and of Schedule 9 to, the Local Government Act 1972, present our proposals for the future electoral arrangements for that City. 2. In accordance with the procedure laid down in section 60(1) and (2) of the 1972 Act, notice was given on 13 May 197^ that we were to undertake this review. This was incorporated in a consultation letter addressed to the Lancaster City Council, copies of which were circulated to the Lancashire County Council, Parish Councils and Parish Meetings in the district, the Members of Parliament for the constituencies concerned and the headquarters of the main political parties. Copies were also sent to the editors of local newspapers circulating in the area and of the local government press. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.
