LADIES AND GENTLEMEN The Philadelphia Chapter, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame takes pride in welcoming you to its 1982 AWARDS DINNER. Our Chapter is a prominent force in recognizing deserving people who have dedicated their careers to the "World of Sports"...making significant contributions...and achieving prominent stature on local, state, national and international levels. Tonight we are making another special effort...deviating from commonplace "staging"...to provide an evening that you will long remember as a unique one...an evening of friendship, relaxation, mutual respect, humility, and pride. The most cherished moments in lite are those we share with family and friends. This is such a moment; your presence and desire to share in this eve• ning's highlights are the ultimate of praise and gratitude tor a job well done. We dedicate our program as a tribute to Philadelphia's beloved Connie Mack...who has often been described as "A Great Champion, A Great Man, A Great Spirit". In 1883, Mr. Mack began a career in which he lived baseball until retirement in 1950...the last titty-six years, as Fr. Jerome C. Romanowski stated in his book. The Mackmen, doing the thing he was destined to do- manage a baseball team! Mr. Mack guided his A's tor 50 consecutive years, finally retiring at age 88...a truly remarkable achievement. We are grateful that Mr. Mack has honored us by being one of us. • •AN • D NOW FOR THE INDUCTION OF THE 1982 HONOREES! It would be reasonable to state that all of our Honored Guests have been touched by "Mr. Mack's" sphere of influence. They, as he, have made many personal and career sacritices...refusing to waiver from their allegiance to sports. Their exceptional service has brought much favorable recognition and respect to the "City of Brotherly Love and Beyond"...fostering and maintaining the highest ideals of humanitarianism and American athletic traditions. Each HCNCREE has contributed unselfishly to improving the lives of countless persons...so, now we present to the community-at-large, fellow citizens whose accomplishments can justifiably serve as exemplary models, deserving of the admiration and emulation of all. It is a privilege to gather and extend our heartiest congratulations to each HONOREE and ACCEPTEE while wishing fervently that the ensuing years will bring forth continued SUCCESS...HEALTH...PROSPERITY..., and HAPPINESS.
