4 Oregon Track Club Masters JULY 2015 Meet Don McLean, 70, of OTC Athletics Team At age 70, Don McLean is part of a select group of men we have in Oregon Track Club Mas- ters who participate on the OTC Athletics Team. Barefoot Beginnings Originally from Southern California, Don ran track and cross country in high school. He ran his races barefoot back then. 70+ Miles per Week After taking a break, he took up distance running again after watching the 1984 Olym- pics which were held in Los Angeles. Like a lot of marathoners he cranked out 70+ miles per week, year after year, and sustained injuries while continuing on roads and trails. Cross Training Adds Balance Don now has found a balance of cross-train- ing, which allows him to enjoy racing and com- peting in his age group. Don Encourages Others to Enjoy Running with Our Club He is part of our Athletics Team and is inter- ested in helping more people find the benefits and enjoy running with our Club. Oregon State Prison Runs He also participates in the Oregon State pris- on runs, which were set up by Steve Prefontaine. Next Up: OTC Butte to Butte You will see Don out on the course of the Butte to Butte July 4th. Good luck, Don!
