HOLY HOUR OF MERCY FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY PERIOD OF EUCHARISTIC EXPOSITION Directions for Eucharistic exposition are found in the ritual book, Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass. Please note especially the following: The altar should be prepared with four to six lit candles, corporal and monstrance. Suitable liturgical music should be planned and servers should be prepared to assist with the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. When exposition precedes Mass or takes place apart from Mass, there should be a recently consecrated host in the tabernacle for exposition. When exposition immediately follows Mass, the host for exposition is typically consecrated at that Mass. EXPOSITION The priest celebrant, vested in a white cope and stole, exposes the Blessed Sacrament in the usual way with a hymn such as O Salutaris sung during the incensation. The priest presides at the Holy Hour from the priest celebrant’s chair. ADORATION A deacon or an assisting priest proclaims the Gospel. Matthew 11:25-30, John 19:31-37 or any other option from those given in the Lectionary for Mass for Votive Masses for the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus [Number 1000: 1-8]. A brief homily on the theme of Divine Mercy is appropriate. The priest celebrant, kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament, and toward the end of the period of adoration, leads all in the Chaplet of Divine Mercy or the Litany of Divine Mercy. After this the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer are prayed for the intentions of the Holy Father and to obtain the Jubilee Year of Mercy Indulgence.
