Welcome to the Art Institute of Chicago! Voted #1 Museum in the United States by TripAdvisor reviewers, the Art Institute of Chicago is a must- see for visitors to the City. From the world-renowned French Impressionist Collection to American favorites like Grant Wood’s American Gothic; from ancient world treasures to modern masterpieces - the museum has something for everyone. A traveler could easily spend the entire afternoon exploring the over one million square feet of exhibitions. For those of you who are interested in taking in more of the City, the Art Institute is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago, surrounded by great shopping, parks, and other tourist attractions. Here are just a few of the “must-see” locations around the Art Institute. If you don’t have time to check them out this trip, you’ll have to make a point to come back to visit our great City. Nearby Landmarks and Views Millennium Park: located just north of the Art Institute is home to several landmarks including Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the Cloud Gate (“Bean”) sculpture, Lurie Garden and the Crown Fountain. Grant Park: located just south of the Art Institute is also famous for its green space and sculptures. Most notably, Buckingham Fountain Chicago Cultural Center: Hosts fantastic free concerts and cultural events, four art galleries, and beautiful architecture. Located at 78 E Washington St. Willis Tower: Formerly known as Sears Tower is located about 0.6 miles away from the Art Institute at 233 S Wacker Dr. Visit Willis Tower’s 103rd floor to experience spectacular views spanning up to 50 miles and four states and step out on the glass floored “Ledge” balcony to see 1,353 below you. There are also several dining options available at the Tower. Longer Walk or a Short Cab Ride For a longer walk, take the Lakefront trail about 1.3 miles north to visit Navy Pier. Here you will find over 50 acres of parks, gardens, entertainment, restaurants, and attractions, including the world-famous Navy Pier Ferris wheel. Take a spin for some great views of the Chicago Skyline. The Art Institute is about 1.2 miles north of the Chicago Museum Campus- home to Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History. Each of these attractions could be an all-day stop during a Chicago visit, but there may be time to choose one to tour after you explore the Art Institute. Also central to the museum campus, see Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears and enjoy some more pedestrian friendly, lakeside space and views in the parks surrounding the campus.
