By Katie Krais, JK Educate

In choosing a school for your child, there are many sources of information available, including: • League tables • GCSE and A level results and university places • Ofsted or Independent Schools Council (ISC) inspection reports • ‘Word of mouth’ • The school prospectus and/or website • The school visit (Open Days and private views)

All of these can be valuable, but the last one - visiting the school in person and speaking to teachers, pupils and the head teacher - can be both the most powerful and the hardest to objectively analyse. Visiting a school can dramatically change opinions formed from other information sources.

Dulwich College The Case for Single Sex Schools

Jane Scott, Dulwich College

Single-sex schools might, at first glance, appear somewhat old fashioned in their approach. But take a closer look and a rather different and more complex picture emerges. Here at Dulwich College we know that when it comes to educating boys and girls, equality does not mean being the same. Each gender has their own particular qualities that can thrive within a single-sex educational environment. Emmanuel School The Case for Co-Educational schools

By Paul McMahon, Registrar, Emanuel School As I look out of my office window I can see some Year 8 boys and girls playing on the front lawn on a lovely summer’s morning. The boys are kicking around a football and a handful of girls have joined in, not afraid to go in for a tackle. I can see that Christabel has won the ball…and she’s broken free…and…she scores! She celebrates with a double flick-flack. Well, that’s the advantage of being a sports scholar I suppose. By Robin Daly

The Cancer Revolution represents the fruition of a long-held dream to pull together the best information on the broadest range of approaches to cancer. Patricia Peat, the author, together with 37 contributors, want this book to act as a catalyst for individuals to empower themselves, and to become part of a revolution that promises to change the experience of cancer treatment completely. They say this revolution, Integrative Medicine, has the power to cut deeply into the devastating survival statistics and the desperately poor quality of life experienced by many following treatment for cancer. Even more importantly, they say it will help promote a cultural revolution: the increasingly obvious sources of the ever-rising tide of cancer in the UK point clearly to where the solutions lie. A sobering statistic: By 2020 half of us are predicted to get cancer at some point in our lives
