For that, Jesus was crucified. The Father then raised him from the dead. But his work was still not done. After the crucifixion his disciples had scat- tered, their faith was crushed. For the next forty days, until his ascension, he appeared to his dis- ciples, as we hear again in today’s gospel, so that they might know the great joy of the resurrection and their share, and ours, in it.
