Alumni Directory 2018 Amala Cancer Research Centre Amala Nagar P O Thrissur - 680 555, Kerala, India Phone : 0487 2307968 E-mail: [email protected] [email protected] www.amalaims.org Preface Amala Cancer Research Centre established in 1982 is a recognized Centre for Ph.D. studies in Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology and Radiation Biology by Mahatma Gandhi University of Calicut and Kerala University of Health Sciences. Hundred students have completed their Degree from this centre and presently they are working at various scientific institutions or Universities all around the world. Although most of the students communicate to our Centre and the number of students passing out increase every year, it becomes difficult to know each other. With these ideas in mind, we had our first, second and third Alumni Meeting in 2003, 2008 and 2013 at our Centre, respectively. It was suggested that Alumni should meet every five years. Latest Directory of the Alumni has been published in our website also and we hope this will be an easy access for communication. Padmabhooshan Fr. Servite Order 1 Servite Order
Servite Order 1 Servite Order Order of the Servants of Mary Abbreviation OSM Formation 1233 Type Mendicant order Marian devotional society Headquarters Santissima Annunziata Basilica, Florence, Italy Website [1] The Servite Order is one of the five original Catholic mendicant orders. Its objects are the sanctification of its members, preaching the Gospel, and the propagation of devotion to the Mother of God, with special reference to her sorrows. The members of the Order use O.S.M. (for Ordo Servorum Beatae Mariae Virginis) as their post-nominal letters. The male members are known as Servite Friars or Servants of Mary. The Order of Servants of Mary (The Servites) is a religious family that embraces a membership of friars (priests and brothers), contemplative nuns, a congregation of active sisters and lay groups. History Foundation The Servites lead a community life in the tradition of the mendicant orders (such as the Dominicans and Franciscans). The Servite Order was founded in 1233 AD, when a group of cloth merchants of Florence, Italy, left their city, families and professions to retire outside the city on a mountain known as Monte Senario for a life of poverty and penance. These men are known as the Seven Holy Founders; they were canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1888.[2] These seven were: Buonfiglio dei Monaldi (Bonfilius), Giovanni di Buonagiunta (Bonajuncta), Amadeus of the Amidei (Bartolomeus), Ricovero dei Lippi-Ugguccioni (Hugh), Benedetto dell' Antella (Manettus), Gherardino di Sostegno (Sostene), and Alessio de' Falconieri (Alexius). They belonged to seven patrician families of that city. As a reflection of the penitential spirit of the times, it had been the custom of these men to meet regularly as members of a religious society established in honor of Mary, the Amadeus of the Amidei (d. -

FEBRUARY 2019 Vol. 04 | Issue 11 | MUMBAI | 32 Pages | Price: `10/- TH EDITORIAL 25 YEAR OF PRIESTLY ORDINATION CELEBRATION AT DIOCESE Pope Francis has continually emphasized the infinite mercy of a God who never tires of reaching out. Throughout his teachings, the Holy Father has put forth the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a gift that permits each one of us to encounter the mercy of God in a personal and profound way. “The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a Sacrament of healing. When I go to confession, it is in order to be healed, to heal my soul, to heal my heart and to be healed of some wrongdoing,” describes Pope Francis. (General Audience Feb. 2014). Pope Francis invites all to focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation as an important dimension of experiencing God’s mercy. The Holy Father says: “So many people, including young people, are returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through this experience they are rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in their lives. Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with May the their own hands. For every penitent, it will be a source of true interior peace.” Grace and Peace (Misericordiate Vultus, #17) Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops of our Lord Dear Friends, be with you Sacrament of Reconciliation has the potential to change us if we allow it and have the desire to live out the graces that have been bestowed on us as a result. -
