My full name is Robert Alexander Drysdale. I am aged 61, my date of birth being . My contact details are known to the Inquiry. I am a retired Chartered Town Planning Consultant. Statement: 1. I am a recently retired planning consultant with 37 years' experience in this role. I worked within the planning department of Midlothian Council from 1979 until 1986. Between 1986 and 2016 I worked within the private sector as a planning consultant, initially for large property consultancy firms and then from 1996 in my own practice. During this time I provided advice to companies involved in major developments including Edinburgh Business Park. An important part of these projects was to advise on strategic objectives such as transport links to the sites. In respect of Edinburgh Business Park I recommended, as part of the designing of the business park in the early 1990s, that provision be made for possible future rapid transit access to the development, by way of a reserved north~south route through the business park. It is this route which is now used by the Edinburgh Tram. 2. I have a keen interest in transport infrastructure both on a personal and professional level. The Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) and the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) have collaborated to present a survey of collecting by the academy since its formation in 1826 as the Scottish Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Ages of Wonder: Scotland’s Art 1540 to Now (4 November 2017-7 January 2018) is curated by RSA President Arthur Watson, RSA Collections Curator Sandy Wood and Honorary Academician Tom Normand. It has spawned a catalogue as well as a volume of fourteen essays, both bearing the same title as the exhibition. The essay collection, edited by Tom Normand, includes chapters on the history of the RSA collections, the buildings on the Mound, artistic discourse in the nineteenth century, teaching at the academy, and Normand’s “James Guthrie and the Invention of the Modern Academy” (pp. 117–34), on the early, complex history of the RSA. Contributors include Duncan Macmillan, John Lowrey, William Brotherston, John Morrison, Helen Smailes, James Holloway, Joanna Soden, Alexander Moffat, Iain Gale, Sandy Wood, and Arthur Watson. -

Access Statement for Museum on the Mound Introduction The Museum on the Mound is a 5 star city centre attraction, straddling the old and the new town of Edinburgh. The museum is situated on a hill with a steep gradual approach. The museum is on one level, and staff are on hand throughout the museum should you require any assistance. Pre-Arrival By Train – We are only a few minutes walk from Edinburgh's Waverley Station. Take the Waverley Bridge exit, turn left and make your way up Market Street and North Bank Street. By Bus – Lothian Buses numbers 23, 27, 41, 42, and 45 stop at the Mound. Most of the Tour Buses and Airlink (100) services stop at the top of Market Street. Edinburgh's main bus station at St Andrew's Square is 5-10 minutes walk away. By Car – Follow routes for Edinburgh City Centre and City Centre Attractions (if using a satellite navigation or GPS system, use postcode EH1 2LP). There is no car park at the museum, but there is limited Pay and Display parking in Market Street, St Giles Street, and Chambers Street, (free all day Sunday). There are also large public car parks nearby at Waverly Station (New Street) and Castle Terrace. -

2021 Book News Welcome to our 2021 Book News. As we come towards the end of a very strange year we hope that you’ve managed to get this far relatively unscathed. It’s been a very challenging time for us all and we’re just relieved that, so far, we’re mostly all in one piece. While we were closed over lockdown, Mark took on the challenge of digitalising some of Venture’s back catalogue producing over 20 downloadable books of some of our most popular titles. Thanks to the kind donations of our customers we managed to raise over £3000 for The Christie which was then matched pound for pound by a very good friend taking the total to almost £7000. There is still time to donate and download these books, just click on the downloads page on our website for the full list. We’re still operating with reduced numbers in the building at any one time. We’ve re-organised our schedules for packers and office staff to enable us to get orders out as fast as we can, but we’re also relying on carriers and suppliers. Many of the publishers whose titles we stock are small societies or one-man operations so please be aware of the longer lead times when placing orders for Christmas presents. The last posting dates for Christmas are listed on page 63 along with all the updates in light of the current Covid situation and also the impending Brexit deadline. In particular, please note the change to our order and payment processing which was introduced on 1st July 2020. -
