Parsons Etude Studies The following studies have been created in response to learning the “Parsons Etude”* Parsons Etude Taught By: Ana Lopes Aréchiga Dancers: Juliana Gorena, Zoe Hausner, Sophia Noelle-Woodstra, Alissa Nuñez, Clare O’Callaghan, Kamila Rojas

* “Parsons Etude” is part of the Repertory Etudes Collection, conceived and curated by Carolyn Adams and Julie Adams Strandberg and produced by Repertory Etudes Project (REP). Repertory Etudes are short dances based on signature works of American choreographers that provide a deep connection with dance history and legacy. A revolutionary concept in the field of dance, RepEtudes are challenging studies that stand on their own as concert pieces and also serve as a rich tool for improving dance technique and performance skills. David Parsons has enjoyed a remarkable career as principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and as a choreographer and director of his own company for which he has created more than 70 works. He has received choreographic commissions from American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to name a few. His work has been performed by Paris Opera Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theatre, National Ballet of Canada, BatSheva Dance Company of Israel, and many others. He was recipient of the 2000 Dance Magazine Award, as well as the 2001 American Choreography Award. Parsons crafted the Etude in 1999 using excerpts of his professional works to create a direct physical experience of his choreography. It also contains embodied legacies of his mentor Paul Taylor and Taylor’s tenure with Martha Graham. The Etude was commissioned and made available by the American Dance Legacy Institute at Brown University.
