Homecoming Worship youtu Homecoming Worship Chapel of the Christ October 2, 2016 - 9:30 AM 2 PRE-SERVICE MUSIC Stand at the direction of the presiding minister. Face the cross at the back of the chapel and follow its path to the chancel where it becomes the focus of Christian worship. HYMN: CWS 774 – Church of God, Elect and Glorious Setting by James Biery 3 INVOCATION (The name of the triune God and the sign of the cross remind worshipers of their baptisms.) M: In the name of the Father and of the Son X and of the Holy Spirit. C: (spoken) Amen. CONFESSION OF SINS M: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. C: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice, For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, You should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake. ABSOLUTION (The use of the keys is that special power and right which Christ gave to his church on earth: to forgive the sins of penitent sinners” [The Small Catechism, First: What is the use of the keys?]. See John 20:21-23.) M: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son X and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. 4 LORD, HAVE MERCY (Kyrie) Mark 10:47 (Kyrie is the Greek word for Lord. The expression “Lord, have mercy” is one of the oldest worship responses in the Christian church.) M: In peace, let us pray to the Lord. For the well-being of all people everywhere, that they may receive from you all they need to sustain body and life, hear our prayer, O Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. M: For the spread of your life-giving gospel throughout the world, that all who are lost in sin may be brought to faith in you, hear our prayer, O Christ. C: Christ, have mercy. M: For patience and perseverance in this life, that we may not lose the hope of heaven as we await your return, hear our prayer, O Lord. C: Lord, have mercy. M: Lord of life, live in us that we may live for you. C: Amen. BE SEATED KYRIE Glen McClure Combined Choirs Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy, Christe eleison, Christ have mercy, Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy. Alto e glorioso Dio, Most high and glorious God, illumine le Tenebrae del coure mio, illuminate the darkness of my heart, e dammi fede retta, e carità perfetta, and grant an upright faith, perfect love, speranza certa, umiltà profonda, certain hope, profound humility, saggezza e conoscimento, O Signore, wisdom and understanding, O Lord, affinchè io faccia il tuo santo that I might follow your holy e verace commandamento. and true commandment. PRAYER M: We thank you, Lord God, that you have called us from the darkness of unbelief into the fellowship of your Son. Lead and guide us by your Holy Spirit that we may walk in the light of Christ day after day and never wander from his love. May we at all times find him in the gospel and willingly serve him who is the Savior of all and lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. 5 GLORY BE TO GOD (Gloria in Excelsis) (Christians praise God by proclaiming the great things he has done to accomplish our rescue from sin. “Glory to God in the Highest” has been a Christian song of worship since the fourth century.) Following the introduction, all sing the hymn in HARMONY PRAYERS M: Almighty and eternal God and Father, by your Holy Spirit you sanctify and keep the holy Christian Church. Hear our prayer, and by your grace grant us, together with all its members, to serve you in true faith; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. C: Amen. 6 M: Almighty and righteous God, you are the giver of all good things. You bless us with morning light and evening rest. You shower the land with good weather, you bestow wealth upon the nations, you endow our bodies with health and our minds with knowledge. Beyond all these graces, you have demonstrated your own mercy in your Son Jesus Christ. Open our hearts to offer you fitting praise and to return our thanks to you; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. C: Amen. M: Almighty and most merciful Lord, you do not despise the petitions of the weak, but you look to the prayers which we offer, even in our distress. Graciously hear us that everything set against us by both the devil and humanity might be brought to nothing. Help us to follow the counsel of your mercy, that we might not only offer you our thanks now, but also offer you our praise forever; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. C: Amen. M: Lord God, heavenly Father, accept our heartfelt thanks for the gift of your holy gospel. In it, you have made known to us your fatherly heart. Now, by your great mercy, graciously hold forth the blessed light of your Word, that by your Holy Spirit you would lead and direct our hearts. Let us never wander from your Word but, by holding fast to it, attain its eternal blessings: through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. C: Amen. SHOUT FOR JOY! Dan Davison Women’s Choir Shout for joy to the Lord! Shout for joy all the earth. O burst forth with joy in jubilant song with music. Praise the Lord with the harp. Join with voices of singing. O shout to the Lord with the trumpets and the blast of the horn. Let the sea resound and all it contains, the people in all of the world. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together with joy! Let there be sound! Let there be music! Praise the Lord with a joyful song! FIRST LESSON: Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” 7 PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 78 MEN: O my people, hear my teaching;* listen to the words of my mouth. WOMEN: I will utter things from of old,* what we have heard and what our fathers have told us. STUDENTS: We will not hide them from our children;* we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD. Refrain MEN: The LORD decreed statutes for Jacob* and established the law in Israel, WOMEN: so the next generation would know them,* and they in turn would tell their children. STUDENTS: Then they would put their trust in God* and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain SECOND LESSON: Ephesians 3:7-12 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 8 BY FAITH Keith and Kristin Getty, Stuart Townend Männerchor arr. Richard A. Nichols By faith we see the hand of God in the light of creation's grand design, in the lives of those who prove his faithfulness, who walk by faith and not by sight.

Rainy Day Jesus .. - I know a man with fire, His eyes; perseverance, His beaten brow; truth, His jaw; strength, His tired back; suffering, His shoulders; mercy, His hands; and grace, His feet. - I met Him one rainy day; He was walking across puddles, his steps making not even a .. ripple or a splash in the shallow pools of water. He looked wet and weary, so I offered my umbrella to which He kindly responded, "Oh, no thank you," and continued walking, - looking up at the grays of sky and down at the greens, reds, and yellows of autumn leaves - thrown about the earth in perfect geometry to the soul.

  • Advent Collaborative 2020 Are You Tired? Already Tired and It’S Just the Beginning of “The Holidays.” It’S Been an Altogether Different Kind of Year
Advent Collaborative 2020 Are you tired? Already tired and it’s just the beginning of “The Holidays.” It’s been an altogether different kind of year. Masks, isolation, divisions in our nation, fear of the future… It makes us weary. The following pages are a journey of faith, hope, love, peace and grace. These are some of the gifts God gives us – especially at Christmas time. A week at a time, we’ll examine these blessings from above and how a baby in a manger makes the applicable every day in our lives. We’ll look at: Faith – because it’s hard to know what to believe in. Are the election results true – some say not. Is Covid as bad as they say or not – it’s hard to know who to trust. Christmas is a fulfilled promise from God. He can be trusted. Hope – where has it gone? The future can look dark and dim. Our jobs, income, and family life have been disrupted. Will having hope lead to more disappointment? Not the Christmas kind of hope. Love – There’s so much division in the world. Race, politics, philosophy… no one seems to get along. Where is the love? It’s found in humble baby who would later die on a cross for our sins. Peace – Who wouldn’t want some of that. Anxiety, depression, and fear grip us, and the stress of the season makes it worse. But there is a peace that comes from God, and it’s different from any other kind of peace. Grace – It’s Christmas! That’s what it’s all about! Receiving what we don’t deserve, such as God’s love, forgiveness, provision, and blessings.

  • Alive in the Lamb
Alive in the Lamb GraceFlock Lyrics and Composer Comments for the “Alive in the Lamb” CD Voice of the Shepherd I can hear the voice of the Shepherd and I know it well. In the life and the love of His presence I have come to dwell. There is room for all in the Shepherd’s fold. There is shelter here from the dark and the cold. From the saints of old, to the fool I am We are led by the Lamb. I can hear the voice of the Shepherd and He knows his own. In the depths of the loneliest valley, I am not alone. When my race is run, and I’ve lived my all I will close my eyes for I know He will call. He will dry the tears. All the suffering Will be gone, so I will sing: Here I am, I’m alive in the Lamb! I can hear the voice of the Shepherd And I know it well. (Here I am, I’m alive in the Lamb) In the life and the love of His presence I have come to dwell. (Here I am, I’m alive in the Lamb) When my race is run, and I’ve lived my all I will close my eyes for I know He will call. He will dry the tears. All the suffering Will be gone, so I will sing: (Chorus) I can hear the voice of the Shepherd and I know it well. ©2007 by Lans P.
