  • Billy's Blog # 10
Billy’s Blog # 10 " Playing The Nullarbor Links" - The World's Longest Golf Course. Even before Leonie and I had departed Sydney for our three month trip to the west across the Nullarbor Plain, I had heard of the world's longest golf course, The Nullarbor Links. I had to learn more as I was uncertain how this course would be played and what I needed to do to start the adventure. Naturally, Mr Google helped me out so I decided this would be a fantastic way to break up our three day journey across the Nullarbor Plain in our caravan. The course starts in Ceduna SA and finishes in Kalgoorlie WA travelling east to west and the other way around from west to east. First port of call in Ceduna was at the Visitors Centre to pay your green fees of $70, obtain your score card, which was then stamped and an information brochure which let's you know where each hole is played. Holes one and two are played at "Ceduna Golf Course" which can only be loosely described as such. The first hole is named "Oyster Bed" and the next " Denial Bay". On the tee at the first hole there is a board describing some history of the area, a local person who settled in or around the town, the par and length of each hole. Whilst there was some grass on the very small teeing ground, there was none at all on the fairways, and this could also be said of the "greens" which of course were sand with a roller to smooth out the sand to the hole to enable a fair roll of the ball to the hole.

PRESS RELEASE 12TH NOVEMBER 2012 NULLARBOR LINKS WINS GOLD, at the 2012 Western Australian Tourism Awards: Nullarbor Links World’s longest Golf Course Australia has won Gold at the Western Australia Tourism Council awards held at the Crown Ballroom Saturday 10th November 2012. Out of 10 finalists in the award’s most hotly contest category, Nullarbor Links was judged the Best in “Western Australia’s Tourism Attractions”. The 10 finalist represented some of the best tourist attractions in the state. Nullarbor Links world’s longest golf course is one of the most unique destination in Australia, there is nothing like this concept anywhere in the world. “Nullarbor Links takes you on a drive to Australia’s famous oyster beds at Ceduna, the wheat & sheep farming districts at Penong and Nundroo. You venture passed the wonderful whales and beautiful coast line at Nullarbor, to arrive at the beaches at Eucla and the remains of Skylab at Balladonia. The working sheep station at Fraser Range and the indigenous art and dance of Ngadju people in Norseman, features strongly in National and International appeal. Nickel mining and land sailing at Kambalda and then finally arriving at “Australia’s gold capital” Kalgoorlie. This is the real Australia. But more important Ladies & Gentleman Nullarbor Links belongs to Western & South Australia. You can’t play Nullarbor links on the Gold Coast; you can’t play it at the Sydney Opera House. Certainly Melbourne can’t pinch it. Nullarbor links is only an infant in the Western Australian tourism family. In 3 years of existence the course has won gold at the awards twice.

The Project Committee wish to announce that the last stage in constructing THE WORLD LONGEST GOLF COURSE has begun. The surveying and mapping, the earthworks and landscaping, have all been completed, and Saturday 20th June 2009 saw the beginning of work on the final task: The laying of the Synthetic Tees and Greens.
