Newall Green Booket An interview with Mrs Rudd Mrs Rudd is the head teacher of Newall Green Primary School. She kindly agreed to answer a selection of questions written by some children from Year 4 and 5. When was the school built? The school was made 60 years ago, in 1952. When it was built it used left over metal from the Lancaster bombers. It was also designed with the layout of a hospital, in case the war started again (So that’s why we have the long corridors). They didn’t just build our school out of metal, they also used it to build other schools in the area. How long have you worked at the school? I have worked at the school for a long time. In January it will be five years. When I started working here, some of the year four’s and five’s were in reception and nursery. What job did you do before you came to work at this school? Before I worked at Newall Green Primary School I worked in Boots chemists, then I worked in the hospital. Following this I decided to become a teacher and then a head teacher at our school. How do you reward good behaviour? I reward people by giving them treats, such as den building, golden time, coral cove, music at dinner time and many other things. Without all of our good behaviour none of this would be able to happen. Therefore it is important that we maintain our good behaviour. What would you like to improve at Newall Green Primary School? I want to improve many things such as the boys toilets, leaking pipes and employ more staff. I also want to improve the dining hall and the building. There is also a teacher who is begging her to get some pigs (Not sure that’s such a good idea) Why did you want to become a head teacher? Because I like to boss people around! I like organising and I am good at it as well as planning. What does it feel like to be in charge? I really like the challenge of leading a team of people. I enjoy working out the schools targets for the year. I am good at organising so I don't find it difficult. How many teachers work at Newall Green Primary School? At the moment 80 including teachers and TA’s. On a scale of 1-10 how safe do you think this school is and why? 10/10 for safety in school and that is really good! We have gates, cameras and fobs as security measures. People falling out is about an 8/10. The building itself needs some work though. Awards! The awards at Newall Green Primary School are for good behaviour and for working hard. On Fridays we have an assembly to give out the awards. If you do any activities out of school and you get anything for it, a medal, certificate or trophy, you can show the whole school and tell them about it. When you get star of the week, or good behavior you are allowed to go to Coral Cove and play. If your class has the best attendance, they will win a stuffed bear for the whole class. This bear is presented to your class during assembly and is kept for a week. The airport also support our attendance. Every half term staff from the airport, come in and give us a badge and certificate. There is even a party at the airport for those who have 100% attendance for a half term. During this party you make different things and you get a prize at the end. Poems These poems were written about Newall Green Primary School by year 5 students: Fun at school Newall Green Primary School Some children are smart at art Newall green is the place to be Others find it easy reading a pie chart If learning matters to you and me Maths is great fun you don't need to run Sometimes you need to follow the clues Go to Newall Green your journey has begun Newall Green kids have nothing to lose Don't be blue or it will hurt you, Mrs Chapman is so cool Your friends will stick to you like glue Listen to her advice and don't be a fool Everyone is very nice they'll give you great advice Mrs Maguire is the tap dancing queen You will love it there you won’t need to think twice Sometimes she looks as young as fifteen Mr Morgan and his beautiful plants Year 6 teachers help you with your SATS Mr Whitehouse looks cool in his knee pants With extra lessons in literacy and maths If you ever need someone to talk to I like seeing friends during play time Mrs T and Mrs C are always there for you Why don’t you come in and see sometime Newall Green is a great place for learning In future it increases your earning By Olivia By Adeeb Najeeb Cyprus Newall Green Primary school was offered a once in a lifetime chance to travel halfway across the globe to a country beyond imagination. 22 lucky children from Newall Green Primary, Newall Green High School, Benchill Primary and Baguley Hall Primary were fortunate enough to have the chance to escape rainy, dull England and relax on the luscious islands of Kyrenia in scorching Cyprus. But it wasn’t all fun, fun, fun. Although there was a lot of excitement and relaxation, we still had to endure waking up early, putting on our costumes, slapping on suncream and plaiting our hair, all before breakfast! We then got the chance to relax and have a quick dip in the pool before practicing for the big Gala celebration. Early in the afternoon, we got back from the Gala celebration, all had gone well and we even said our introduction in Turkish! To celebrate we all went to a luxurious hotel, Jasmine Court. A party and a dance show was set up for all of the children. We all played stuck in the mud, tug of war and musical chairs. We also made good friends with children from other countries such as Poland, Russia and Turkey. All too soon it was all over and we had to spend the rest of our school life back in England. But it was good while it lasted! Trips at Newall Green Primary School! Newall Green Primary School always loves a good trip out for the day to refresh children’s brains with interesting facts which will blow their minds! We have been to Liverpool and Styal Mill as well as Cyprus! At Newall Green Primary School we always love a good day out! Recently 4-5GM went out to Liverpool for a day! They went to see a public art gallery in the town. Everyone was very excited! So excited that they thought they were going for 2 weeks! “It was really good and I would like to go there again!” said Olivia Watson, 10 years old, year five. Year 5’s Victorian trip was to Styal Mill! Last year the year 5’s went to Styal Mill as their Topic was the Famous Victorians! They were all very excited; even the teachers were too! The teachers said that everyone could dress up as Victorians to blend in with the background! “Styal Mill is so COOL I want to go there again!” shouted Caitlin Mathieson,10 years old, 5GB Our Diwali Day On Wednesday 21st November the whole school took part in different activities for Diwali. Diwali is the festival of light and colours. Children in year 6 cooked some delicious foods, year 5 danced and had great fun and year 4 created some fantastic Rangoli patterns. Year 3 made bracelets, the year twos went food tasting and the year ones made candle holders. JUBILEE For the Diamond JUBILEE, we made badges, posters, did class activities and we created our own dramas. The teachers did what they could to make it a special day for everyone. Our Golden Rules 1. Listen to others 2.Be gentle 3. Don't damage other people’s property 4.Be kind and helpful TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED! This ‘Wordle’ was created by year 4 children. They thought of lots of words that described school and why it is such a great place to be. After school clubs Newall Green Primary School offers many fun after school activities for the children. Card making is one of these activities, run by Mrs Chapman and Mrs Thompson. Children can choose from a range of materials and create cards for different occasions. Choir is an activity run by Mrs Barsetti and Mrs Maguire. Children are urged to express themselves using their voices. The school council is run by Mrs Campbell. There is a school councillor in each classroom. They help to make changes to the school and meet up every Thursday. Gardening club is run by Mr Morgan who is crazy about gardening. He invented this club so that children would take a better interest in their garden.

We have now received the final report that we expect to be published on the Ofsted website on Monday and which will be made available on the school’s website this afternoon. A copy of the report is enclosed with this letter. Although the report finds that: safeguarding of children is effective, our students feel safe and well looked after, spiritual, social, moral and cultural development is effective, and there is a broad and balanced curriculum in place it is less positive about the school overall and as a result, I regret to tell you, the school has been placed in Special Measures. The school’s leaders, governors and trustees accept the report’s findings and have already started work to fully address the issues raised as quickly as possible. To support us we will be working closely with Chorlton High School and Piper Hill High School, both of which are Teaching Schools and National Support Schools and have a proven track record of delivering sustained school improvement over time. We will draw on a range of high quality external support alongside internal support from the wider Prospere Learning Trust. Our aim is to respond swiftly to the areas for improvement highlighted in the report and successfully improve outcomes for all our students.’ A ‘Drop-in’ sessions for parents will be held on Thursday 24th May 2018 from 5pm to 7pm, at the school.
