Fifth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2020 Happy Mother’s Day Our Lady Most Admirable...pray for us ! Our Lady Most Admirable, detach us from the visible, and lead us on to fix our gaze on the invisible. Amen. From the Gusset Happy Easter! Typical of the virgin martyrs’ spirituality is that they all look upon our Lord as their Bridegroom. In what is called a Mystical Marriage, religious sisters forgo marriage to a man, because they are so in love with Jesus Christ M they give over their whole heart to God. The Sacred Heart Sisters in Rome have their cloister right next to the beautiful Church, Trinita dei Monti, atop the Spanish steps. With their daily reception of Holy Communion in the Mass, the nuns have always felt the closeness of their Bridegroom. But in 1844, there came the desire “to have our Lady in their midst,” and so Sister Pauline Perdreau was commissioned to give expression to this desire by painting a picture of Mary. Known as the Madonna of the Lily M it showed Mary at the distaff M her fingers plying the spindle M in a salmon colored gown. Frescoed on one of the cloister walls that the Sisters passed on the way to Mass, this image received a new name on October 20th, 1846, when the visiting Pope Pius IX exclaimed, “she is truly most admirable.” The Religious nuns quickly changed our Lady’s name to that of Our Lady Most Admirable, and devised a prayer (the one we have been praying before Mass for all of Lent and Easter this year) that the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (RSCJ’s) have made popular throughout the world. We, Catholics, are honored to have our Lord so close to us. We can receive our Lord, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in Holy Communion, and we can spend time with Jesus whenever we like by simply visiting a Church and adoring Him through the closed doors of the Tabernacle. But we want our cake and to eat it as well! We, Catholics, have a desire to have our Lady in our midst, as well. We carry the treasure of our mothers in our hearts always. Even after our Moms have died, our love for them is so great, that we take them with us wherever we go. If you have a desire (like the RSCJ’s did) to have our Lady in your midst and, if you miss your Mom and can’t wait to see her again in Heaven, see Fr. Randy for a small sacramental that he will bless for you M that you would truly have our Lady physically in your midst and your own blessed mother as well. Happy Easter! Happy Mother’s Day Mom (your first one in Heaven)! Our Lady Most Admirable…pray for us! Yours on the Path Fr. Randy Consecration to Mary When something is consecrated, it is set aside for a more holy purpose. For example, my Chalice was consecrated; instead of, being just an ordinary vessel to drink everyday liquids from M when the Chalice was consecrated it became a vessel strictly to contain the precious blood of Christ. So by an act of consecration a thing is separated from its common use (or we could say, profane use) to now accomplish a sacred purpose M a purpose by which a person or a thing is now dedicated to the service and worship of God. When we consecrate ourselves or a thing to the Blessed Virgin Mary M in a sense we say, that since Mary is the highest honor of our race, that since Mary never sinned, but rather always did the will of God, that since Mary loves God the way we were created by God to love Him, when we perform a Marian consecration, we ask the Virgin Queen of Heaven to help us love God more and in so doing make our wills like unto His. Consecrations to Mary are not uncommon, if you have a devotion to our Lady of Perpetual Help, we pray a simple act of consecration every 1st Wednesday of the month (I include that consecration with this article). The Archbishop of Los Angeles and the President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Gomez, consecrated our country to Mary on May 1st, and our own Bishop Malloy consecrated our diocese to Mary on April 29th. (NOTE: as our country and our diocese have long ago been consecrated to Mary M these liturgies became known as reconsecrations or renewals to the consecration of Mary) Taking advantage of our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day, I will consecrate our parishes to the Consecration to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Blessed Virgin Mary on May 13th, and this Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church, you are also our liturgy will be viewable as a YouTube video on Mother of Perpetual Help. With hearts full of our website (www.olphmarystpatrick.com). I love for you, we consecrate ourselves to your would encourage each of you to consecrate Immaculate Heart, so that we may be your your family to Mary. You may either use the devoted children. Obtain for us true sorrow simple consecration we pray as a part of our for our sins, and fidelity to the promises of our Novena to Our Baptism. We consecrate our minds and hearts Lady of Perpetual to you, that we may always do the Will of our Help or print out heavenly Father. We consecrate our lives to the consecration you, that we may love God better, and live not for ourselves but for Christ your Son, and that liturgy that Bishop we may see Him and serve Him in others. By Malloy used, which this humble act of consecration, dear Mother can be found on the of Perpetual Help, we pledge to model our home page of our lives on you, the perfect Catholic, so that website under the consecrated to you in life and in death, we letter entitled: may belong to your Divine Son for all eternity. Consecration to Amen. Mary. Heroes of God; Feast Days of the Saints St. Acacius May 8th Also known as Agathius, St. Acacius was a centurion (a commander who leads a company of 100 soldiers) in the Imperial Roman Army under the Emperor Diocletian (circa 303). In an edict published throughout the Empire, Diocletian passed a law, which led to the confiscation of property of anyone who was a Christian, the destruction of Churches, and worse yet, the persecution of all Catholics. Acacius did not try to hide his Faith, and consequently was arrested and tortured. Not giving up his Faith, Acacius was taken to Constantinople with other Catholics, who held positions in the Roman Empire for martyrdom. It is said, that Acacius prayed that anyone who would recognize the holiness of these soontobe martyrs and would honor their memory M that God should grant them good health of mind and body. For this reason, during the Bubonic plague in the early 14th Century, the people of Bavaria listed St. Acacius (Agathius) among the 14 Holy Helpers. Since Acacius was beheaded, he became known as the patron Saint of those who suffer headaches! It is said that the Saints are the ‘Heroes of God;’ that if we honor these men and women, who loved God with all their heart, mind, soul, and body M that God will show honor and glory to us! This theology reminds me of the time I was giving a homily at the nursing home and during the introduction, I was listing out the greatest stars of each Professional Sport. So, I said, who is the best football player? Walter Payton! Who is the best Basketball player? Michael Jordan! Who is the best Hockey player? Wayne Gretzky! And when it came time to announce the best Baseball player, before I could say his name M this little, elderly woman piped up: Pete Rose! Needless to say, I immediately fell in love with this woman (because her favorite ball player was the same as mine). You see, it is the same with God. Honor the Saints M God’s heroes M and God will honor you. St. Acacius …pray for us!
