Over a span of ten weeks, Professor Lewis wrote a series of letters to Chicago friends Grace and Rose Cody, describing the area, its inhabitants and their goings-on. Remarkably the letters were saved by the Cody sisters and given back to the Lewis family as a record of their summer and bound with a few photographs the family had taken that summer.
