Prayer and fasting for the world is a great thing. The messages is not a new one but beckons us back to the Sacred Scriptures. There are a plethora of passages that encourage us to pray and fast. Fasting reminds us of our human limitations. If our health is good, fasting is something we should all do, and if you are like me, you should do more of it. Our world seems to have lost any sense of civility. We all need to realize that each “Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and every person on earth was created as an infinitely valuable, one of a kind masterpiece and say many times, especially created by God for a mission. This mission need not be grandiose but rather in the little whenever you make some sacrifice: sacrifices we make each day, we will have an eternal impact on those around us. We are likely O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, for not to recognize the benefit of such acts until we meet in eternity. the conversion of sinners, and in Clearly one of the telltale signs of the veracity of private revelation is how it has reparation for the sins committed impacted the lives of those graced with experiencing the revelation. Little Francisco and against the Immaculate Heart of Jacinta died at an early age and Lucia lived a long life as a consecrated religious who M a r y.” counseled popes. This seems to be a slam dunk as regards to how the private revelation Our Lady of Fatima impacted those who experienced it. (Third Apparition, July 13, 1917) There was a recent book, The Pope and the President, written by Paul Kengor. It relates in stellar fashion how Our Lady’s messaged seemed to have impacted in profound ways the collapse of Communism and the papacy of Saint John Paul II and presidency of Ronald Reagan. An incredible denuclearization of close range nuclear missiles was agreed upon on December 8, 1987, the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Recall that Our Lady promised that the triumph would be through her Immaculate Heart. The Soviet Union was dissolved and became Commonwealth of Independent Republics (Russia reconstituted) on December 25, 1991. For the Russians their Christmas is January 6th in the Orthodox calendar, but for the West we celebrate the birth of our Lord on December 25th, what a Christmas gift. Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart triumphed, but we must not relax our efforts to pray and fast. Dostoevsky seemed to foreshadow in his work, The Brothers Karamazov that Russia would be at the heart of the renewal of Christianity. I was told by the custodian of the International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima that they are now teaching Christian ethics in Russia. The reason simply being because they have recognized the devastation that atheistic approaches had yielded in Russian. Our world is fraught with such division, we must continue to rely on Our Lady’s intercession. We must never lose heart. Continue to pray and beg for the grace to help the world recognize all that is true good and beautiful. Fast and pray if your health permits, live the Fatima Message and know that God has great plans for you. Remember, you are an infinitely valuable, one of a kind masterpiece, created by God for a mission. Do it. Love God and neighbor and never lose heart, we are part of God’s Blue Army to champion Christ. who loves us more than we can even begin to imagine. May God bless you and may Our Lady wrap you in the mantle of her protection! Fr. Glenn Kohrman Chaplain of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend World Apostolate of Fatima (WAF) Fr.
