Resources A Guide for Secondary School Educators The Educator’s Guide Created in conjunction with the exhibition, SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture This exhibition examines how the Chinese community in Singapore developed its own distinctive culture. Here, visitors discover and rediscover what it means to be a Chinese Singaporean. The aim is to develop a stronger sense of the Chinese Singaporean identity amongst youths. This will help foster a greater sense of belonging while giving them an understanding of how we are similar to or different from other Chinese communities. This exhibition presents Chinese Singaporean culture through daily life in Singapore – through the things we see, hear, do and eat every day. Therefore, the experience is highly interactive where visitors can touch various stations, play games, listen to stories and have a dialogue with the gallery. Through this exhibition, we will explore ideas of: Chinese heritage Cultural interactions Public policies The exhibition content extends classroom learning and teaching, by complementing History, Social Studies and Character & Citizenship Education subjects taught in secondary schools. It is also self-guided, where students can learn and explore independently. One of the main interactive features of the exhibition is the use of wristband tags. Students can tap their wristband tags to answer questions scattered throughout the space, trigger videos and play games. At the end of the visit, students can print out their own personalised report card which summarises their exhibition journey along with prompts for further cultural exploration beyond the exhibition. This report card serves as a starting point for them to reflect about their identity in relation to everyday life.

  • [Final] 2020Feb05 an Evening with Japanese Food
日本食の夕べ 2020 鈴木大使 ご挨拶案 (2020 年 2 月 5 日(水)19:00~於:公邸) (Opening) Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Thank you very much for joining me this evening to spread the charm of Japanese cuisine in India through “An Evening with Japanese Food 2020”. (Importance of spreading Japanese food in India) The Embassy of Japan in India has recently been hosting a series of events to promote Japanese food and sake. Through these efforts, the awareness of Japanese food among Indian people is gradually increasing. But we would like more Indian people to taste Japanese food and become big fans of Japanese cuisine. As today’s highlight, I am pleased to have Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador, Chef Ogawa Hirotoshi, and Indian MasterChef, Chef Pankaj Bhadouria. Today, Chef Ogawa will make sushi by using fish imported from Japan. In 2018, Japan and India agreed on the sanitary certificate of fish imported from Japan into India. I am very happy to tell you that, today’s fish is very special, because it is not frozen but completely fresh. It was exported from Japan to India only yesterday. - 1 - This fish was exported by J’s cooperation from Toyama prefecture, Japan. They have their booth here today and are going to serve fresh sashimi and fried prawns. They are exporting fresh fish from Japan to India by air. Therefore, you can enjoy having fresh Japanese sushi in India by using their services now. Chef Pankaj is particularly going to serve a special salad using Japanese apples. We had been negotiating with the Indian authorities on the export of Japanese apples for a decade, and finally, last December, the Indian government approved a trial shipment of Japanese apples into India.

It has been changing the landscape of the whole foodservice industry by forming new eating-out culture as well as by expanding the market volume of foodservice industry. Initially, the substantial growth has been driven by social, cultural and economical changes such as busier lifestyle, westernization of eating pattern and increase of income level in a booming economy. Then after the Korean financial crisis, the industry as a whole has chased undifferentiated growth strategy to survive under severe competition. However, profitability has been deteriorated because the growth stemmed from multi-store strategy. While most of the family restaurant companies have been focusing on volume without profits leading to financial difficulties, some successful players have captured the market by leveraging their core competence and have evolved from the second movers to market leaders.

  • Agenda Item 7
Item Number: AGENDA ITEM 7 TO: CITY COUNCIL Submitted By: Douglas D. Dumhart FROM: CITY MANAGER Community Development Director Meeting Date: Subject: Conceptual Review of a Proposal for the July 19, 2011 Development of a Chase Bank at 5962 La Palma Avenue RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council conceptually approve a proposal for the development of a Chase Bank at 5962 La Palma Avenue and direct staff to draft a Zoning Code Text Amendment and Development Agreement for further consideration. SUMMARY: The City has received a letter from Studley, the real estate brokerage firm representing the property owner at 5962 La Palma Avenue, requesting that the City consider the development of a JP Morgan Chase Bank on their property. The letter is provided as Attachment 1 to this report. The site is located at the southwest corner of Valley View Street and La Palma Avenue and has been vacant for over 10 years. Late last year, the subject parcel was rezoned from Neighborhood Commercial (NC) to Planned Neighborhood Development (PND) land use designation, which prohibits financial institutions and banks. The Broker has stated that they have exhausted attempts to find end users for his client’s property that are consistent with the goals of the new PND Zone and that meet the needs of his client. They have a ground lease offer from Chase to develop a free-standing bank. The financial institution use alone does not meet the requirements in the PND Zoning District to develop the commercial corner with retail uses that are lacking in the community.

(NASDAQ:AFCE), is hoping to continue the momentum with a focus on Canada. Plans to recruit “Team Canada,” an all-star group of experienced multi-unit restaurateurs, will be announced at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Conference in Whistler, Canada held Jan. 19 - 21. Popeyes plans to award exclusive territory development areas to franchisees throughout the country by the end of 2003. “With Popeyes’ Acadian roots, you could say the brand is ‘coming home’ to this part of the world,” said Russ Sumrall, vice president of international development for Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits. “We will be selecting the multi-unit restaurateurs who represent the best of the best to bring our flavorful chicken and Louisiana dishes to Canada.” Olive Hospitality Inc. signed an agreement to develop 30 new restaurant locations exclusively in the greater Vancouver area. There are 15 restaurants currently open in the greater Toronto area, but that area is still available to be further developed as an exclusive development territory. • Al Copeland Was Considered Over the Top in a City That Embraces Extravagant Behavior
NEW ORLEANS From Bienville to Bourbon Street to bounce. 300 moments that make New Orleans unique. WHAT HAPPENED In April 1991, 1718 ~ 2018 Al Copeland filed for bankruptcy and lost his Popeyes chicken 300 chain. TRICENTENNIAL THE AL COPELAND FOUNDATION PHOTOS Al Copeland was considered over the top in a city that embraces extravagant behavior. Technology Transfer and Research Collaboration in R&D and Academic Institutions In Singapore, technology transfer and collaboration with industry play a central role in the two main universities as well as the five polytechnics. Besides these institutes of higher learning, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) looks after twelve research institutes. The National University of Singapore (NUS) has an enrolment of 32,000, including 9000 postgraduate students. It has eight schools/faculties, an academic staff of 2080 and another 1130 research staff. In 2003, the NUS produced some 6150 graduates and 2660 postgraduates in the fields of engineering, science, medicine, business administration, architecture and building and estate management, law, arts and social sciences, and dentistry. The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has a full-time student population exceeding 22,800, including 7100 postgraduates. It has 1400 academic and 580 research staff members. In 2003, some 5400 graduated in the fields of engineering, applied science, accountancy, mass communications, and education. Of these, about 1260 obtained higher degrees. The two universities are major producers of research output and they have been involved in a succession of initiatives aimed at capitalising opportunities latent in their research laboratories. This is to disseminate new and useful knowledge resulting from research and ensure that technology transfer obligations of the university towards a research sponsor are met. The NUS and the NTU have taken steps to enhance infrastructure and mechanisms to facilitate university-industry interaction with technology transfer being central to the research process.
