Cabrillo Weekly WWW.CABRILLOPTO.COM SEPTEMBER 3 2021 CABRILLO WEEKLY Weekly School Wide Updates Brought To You By The Cabrillo PTO IN THIS ISSUE PAGE 1 Principal's Message PAGE 2 PTO Updates Dear Cabrillo Families, PAGE 3 Fundraising Welcome to the end of week three. Several parents have emailed and have asked to learn more about the pool testing that is coming soon. PAGE 4 Dr. Olsen, our superintendent, has put out a thorough email which Announcements outlines the entire process. Please read Dr. Olsen’s email – we hope you’ll opt in, again – your child won't be tested without your consent. Last night was the first PTO meeting of the year and some parents asked for clarification regarding the process, when someone is covid positive. Any time we learn of a positive case, or a close contact, we immediately notify the contact tracer at the district office. She follows the most recent guidelines, and she works with the family to determine exposure dates and the date that the student is eligible to return to school. At that time, our covid representative will let you know next steps, as each case is different. If other families need to be contacted, she will notify them, as well. Her notification will merely tell you that your child may have been exposed; but she is not able to disclose another child’s name to you. A very generous family has donated some picnic tables, so all children may eat outdoors. THANK YOU! They are due to arrive next week, and they will be put in place as soon as they get assembled. Kindergarten families – you received oral health assessment and first grade health examination paperwork. Please bring the paperwork in after your child’s next doctor’s appointment – we do not need to wait until they are ready to start first grade. The same goes with seventh grade T-Dap paperwork. Mrs. Griggi will take that from you as soon as you have it. Remember, there is no school on Monday, September 6th, but we will see your student back here on Tuesday! That’s all for now – have a wonderful long weekend! Most sincerely, Thank you to Ms. Natalie and Ms. Aimee, our two cafeteria heroes Annie Flores-Aikey feeding over 550 children both breakfast AND lunch! Games and food provided. Cub Scout Pack 9, Pacifica, CA Cubmaster: William Kellermann Phone: (415) 672-1463 Email: [email protected] What is Cub Scouting? Cub Scouts is a national organization for both boys and girls (grades K through 5), in preparation for Scouts BSA (ages 11-18). The focus is on letting Cub Scouts have fun while learning skills that will help them later on. It is also a great time for parents to bond with their kids. Brief, select history of Scouting: 1908 - Boy Scouts started in England by Lord Baden-Powell. 1910 - William D. Boyce incorporates Boy Scouting in America. 1916 - Baden-Powell starts the Wolf Cubs program in England for younger boys. 1930 - Cub Scouts officially begins in America. Cub Scouts is modeled after Kipling’s Jungle Book. (The original den leaders were Boy Scouts!) 1938 - Pack 9 is established in Pacifica, CA. It is the area’s oldest Pack. (Pacifica Boy Scout Troop 29 was formed shortly thereafter.) Our Charter Organization is Pacifica’s Moose Lodge. 2016 - Lions program first piloted in the Cub Scout program, opening the program to Kindergartners for the first time. 2018 - Lions program is officially adopted. Cub Scouts is also now open to both boys and girls. Organizational Structure PACK COMMITTEE Tiger Webelos 2nd-year Lion Den Wolf Den Bear Den Den Den Webelos Den “Pack”: The larger group of boys, comprised of Dens Led by: Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmasters, Den Leaders and Committee members “Den”: smaller groups of boys, based on their year in school Led by: Den Leader and Assistant Den Leaders (Lions/Tigers are co-led by all respective Lion/Tiger parents) • Kindergarten: Lions • 1st grade: Tigers • 2nd grade: Wolves • 3rd grade: Bears • 4th grade: Webelos • 5th grade: Webelos 2 (Arrow of Light) Committee: Pack leaders, Den leaders, Committee Members, and parents. Terminology and Rank Advancement: Cubs are referred to by Den, based on the school year they are in. For instance, Tigers are in a Tiger Den because they are in 1st grade. They are working on their badge for Tiger rank, which they should be able to achieve by the end of the school year. Whether or not those Tigers earn their Tiger rank badge, they will all become Wolves for the next school year. (Note: This is different from Scouts BSA, where scouts work on ranks and advance individually according to their own time frames and readiness.) Meetings times and locations: • 1 monthly Pack meeting (all Dens). Usually the 3rd Friday of the month @ Vallemar School, 7-8pm. • 1 monthly Pack outing (all Dens). (Dates, times, and locations TBA). • 2 to 4 monthly Den meetings (which may include special den outings). Meeting dates, times, and locations are determined by the Den Leader in conjunction with the den.

  • Guide to Council Camps National Parks California
GUIDE TO COUNCIL CAMPS NATIONAL PARKS CALIFORNIA PARKS ORANGE COUNTY PARKS SAN BERNARDINO PARKS 1 A Few Basics. As all American, I will do my best to . Be clean in my outdoor manners, Be careful with fire, Be considerate ill the outdoors, and Be conservation minded. -The Outdoor Code, The Boy Scout Handbook, 1993 Edition, Page 55 The Outdoor Code is perhaps the most well-known and shortest statement of BSA outdoor policy. It can be expanded into six points that cover how your unit can have a 'low-impact' on your weekend car camping and backpacking outings: Pretrip Plans Wear Scout uniforms or other clothes that will blend into the surroundings. When picking camping equipment, such as tents, try to abide by the same rule. Pack food in containers that you'll carry home at the end of a trip. Take along (and use) trash bags. Plan to have 12 or fewer people staying in an individual campsite. Pick areas that are suited to the type of activity that you are planning. Using Trails Stay on the trail. Don't cut across switchbacks. Campsites Choose sites free of fragile plants. Camp out of sight of trails, streams, and lakes. Don't dig trenches around your tents or make any other unneeded holes. Fires Build fires only where appropriate and allowed. Try to get by with just propane stoves. Use existing fire rings instead of making new ones. Bring your own wood supply with you whenever possible. Open gathering may be prohibited. If you gather firewood, make sure you only burn small wood gathered from the ground.
