Chocolate contains palm oil because it helps make some chocolate appear smooth and shiny and prevents melting. Cookies use palm oil because it’s semisolid at room temperature and gives a creamy texture to baked products. Shampoos use palm oil to help restore the natural oils in hair. Soap contains palm oil because it removes oil and dirt from hair and skin and acts as a moisturizer. Packaged bread contains palm oil because it’s solid at room temperature, bakes easily, and is cost- effective. Lipstick often contains palm oil because it holds color well, stays solid at high temperatures, and has a smooth texture with practically no taste. Pizza dough (both fresh and frozen) uses palm oil to stop dough from sticking together and to boost texture. Instant noodles are 20 percent palm oil because it is used to precook the noodles so consumers only have to add water to prepare. Ice cream contains palm oil because it makes it smooth and creamy. Detergent often has palm oil because of its fatty acid composition. Oils and fats are an essential part of soap production. Received: 6 April 2020; Accepted: 10 May 2020; Published: 14 May 2020 Abstract: The consumers’ opinion concerning conventional palm (Elaeis guineensis) oil is negatively affected by environmental and nutritional issues. However, oils extracted from drupes of interspecific hybrids Elaeis oleifera E. guineensis are getting more and more interest, due to their chemical and × nutritional properties. Unsaturated fatty acids (oleic and linoleic) are the most abundant constituents (60%–80% of total fatty acids) of hybrid palm oil (HPO) and are mainly acylated in position sn-2 of the glycerol backbone. Carotenes and tocotrienols are the most interesting components of the unsaponifiable matter, even if their amount in crude oils varies greatly. The Codex Committee on Fats and Oils recently provided HPO the “dignity” of codified fat substance for human consumption and defined the physical and chemical parameters for genuine crude oils. However, only few researches have been conducted to date on the functional and technological properties of HPO, thus limiting its utilization in food industry. Recent studies on the nutritional effects of HPO softened the initial enthusiasm about the “tropical equivalent of olive oil”, suggesting that the overconsumption of HPO in the most-consumed processed foods should be carefully monitored.

  • Traub X Crosswalk Report
Understanding the Unprecedented: Quarantine and its Effects on the American Consumer Overview As the Coronavirus crisis takes its toll on both the psyche and wallets of Americans, we conducted a study to address its impact on the consumer. In our first edition of the Coronavirus Consumer Report we addressed the following questions: 1. How has the Coronavirus and related crisis impacted the ways in which consumers engage in 1 digital content and make purchase decisions? 2. How will these trends shift as the crisis continues and we settle into our “new normal”? The 2 first two weeks of the crisis were a shock to the system. What will the next phase look like from a consumer perspective? 3. Will these trends or some of these trends achieve a level of permanence even after the crisis 3 abates? In order to answer these questions, we partnered with data insights analytics firm, Crosswalk, to analyze the digital data of over 5 million consumers. This edition of the Coronavirus Consumer Report covers the first two weeks of the crisis when Americans went from living what were essentially their normal lives to sheltering at home or a version of it within the span of days. We plan to provide pulse check updates throughout the crisis to see how the trends evolve over time. For this report, Traub and Crosswalk conducted a study of 5.29M consumers who provided self- identified information via social media platforms. We sourced parsed data from digital networks, consumption trends, habits, and language. We then applied our proprietary funnel system to filter the data and assign inferences based on proven correlations between specific data points and demographically known characteristics.
