Join us as we see the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s golden age. It’s 1927, and Don Lockwood and Linda LaMont are the toast of Tinseltown until “talkies” come on the scene. Of course, you remember Gene Kelly splashing his way through the famous MGM film but now you will see it live. Join us as we make a big splash with this spectacular and romantic musical comedy. There will be wonderful singin’ and dancin’ and, yes, it really will rain onstage! Then come with us for a delicious dinner at Antonette’s Restaurant, 290 Glen Cove Road, where we can discuss and relive all the fun and excitement of this great show. Cost for Show & Dinner: $80 Residents/$95 Non Residents JOIN THE FUN AND GET GOOD EXERCISE! Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-11 AM Beginning June 25th Get in the swim – and have some fun! No – we’re not giving swimming lessons, but we are offering a series of wonderful exercises in the pool! Our instructor is a certified lifeguard, who will lead us in stimulating water exercises that will strengthen muscle tone and help us improve our stamina, using the resistance of water. Exercises are fun and not at all strenuous; everyone will have a wonderful time. To quote one of our residents: “thanks for running the water exercise classes. They are really worthwhile and so much fun!” We urge you to come join us. Just bring a towel and a bathing suit and get ready for fun and laughter. Please note: this series consists of two classes per week for 8 weeks and is for East Hills resident adults only. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10AM to 11AM beginning Monday, June 25th. A standard release form is required to be signed at the first session. The cost of the entire series is $75 Limited to East Hills Residents only. Special july event “pool party” at the east hills pool—july 25th On Wednesday, July 25th, from 11AM to 4PM (Rain Date: July 26th), the Senior Activities Committee is pleased to sponsor a “Pool Party”. All age groups are invited to enjoy a day of Cards, Mah Jongg (please bring your own set), Canasta, Bridge, Poker, Pinochle or even Monopoly. The Pool Party Package includes a reserved table for your game, and Lunch at the Park Grille. (Entrees, beverage, dessert, tax and tip included). Reservations are required and tables are extremely limited. To help us organize the tables, please include a list of all of the players in your game with your reservation, even if you are only paying for yourself. Barbara Klein, the editor of our Newsletter, and The Senior Activities Committee of the Village of East Hills were presented with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for outstanding and invaluable service to the community, signed by Congressman Thomas Suozzi. Barbara was also presented with a Certificate of Outstanding Service by The State of New York – signed by both the State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and State Senator Elaine Phillips. In addition, she was presented with a Certificate of Merit by the New York State Assembly, as well as a Special Commendation in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Nassau County by the Office of the Nassau County Executive, Laura Curran, the Office of the Nassau County Comptroller and the Nassau County Clerk, as well as Certificates of Merit and Recognition by the Town of North Hempstead, signed by Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth. Congratulations Barbara!! FUNNY GIRL WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22nd 12:00 Noon WESTBURY MANOR – lunch & show Funny Girl, the musical, opened on Broadway in 1964 with a book by Isobel Lennart, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill. The show ran for four years. Funny Girl the movie was released in 1968, starring Barbra Streisand as the vibrant and beautiful young Fanny Brice who starts out as a bit player in the NYC Vaudeville stage but works her way up to stardom on Broadway. Fanny Brice was valued for her vocal and comedic talents by the renowned theatre impresario Florenz Ziegfeld. Fanny thrives in the theatre but her relationship with her suave, imprisoned husband, Nick Arnstein is another story. Meet us on August 22 at the Westbury Manor for lunch and the live musical production of Funny Girl, presented by Plaza Theatrical Productions. They are a Long Island based professional touring company, founded in 1983 by Executive Producer, Kevin F. Harrington. They mount fully-staged musicals and comedies. A great way to lunch and enjoy a show! Tickets are extremely limited, so don’t hesitate! Join us as SAC presents the Penny Lane Beatles Tribute Band, who have created the legacy of The Beatles, note-for-note! We will hear a selection of Beatles hits from all of their periods. They are so great that you will find yourself cheering for more. Don’t miss this wonderful trip down memory lane (or should we say Penny Lane!).
