The No. 1 team was forced to surrender some track-positon on ensuing pit stops to repair cosmetic damage, however recovered enough to capture a top-20 finish.

CGRFS Quote board:

Jamie McMurray – No. 1 Halo 5 Spartan Locke Chevrolet SS: - “A tough day for our Halo 5 Chevy today. The guys did a good job trying to work on the balance of the car. The car was tight throughout most of the day. After one of the early incidents with another car, there was a lot of oil on the top of turns one and two that the clean-up crews may have missed. I got into that oil and hit then hit it again two more times. Matt and the pit crew did a good job of trying to make repairs under caution without losing more ground. On the final restart I made contact with another car and lost a couple of spots again. Just a tough day all around for our team.”

Larson Finishes 29th at Kansas Speedway

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) returned to the Heartland this weekend as teams competed at Kansas Speedway for the second and final time this season. The weekend proved to be challenging for the No. 42 Target team, as balance issues affected the car’s speed throughout practice and the race. Larson started the race in 20th-place and briefly moved into the mid-teens around Lap 75 before contact with the wall slowed the Target Chevy for a disappointing 29th-place finish.

As NSCS cars took to the track on Friday, the Target Chevy started practice exhibiting handling issues as the team worked to prepare for qualifying. Although the crew made some gains on the issues prior to qualifying, helping to get the car driving slightly better, Larson nonetheless would settle for a 20th-place qualifying effort after advancing out the first round. Balance issues persisted during Saturday’s practices as the team focused on mock race runs.

When the green flagged dropped on Sunday, Larson reported early in the race that the Target Chevy continued to have balance issues. After making adjustments on the first two pit stops, Larson was able to gain spots, until making contact with the wall on Lap 89 after running through oil on the track in turn three. The damage from the hit affected the handling causing Larson to spin out on Lap 109. The remainder of the race, Larson continued to fight with a loose handling car, and would ultimately finish in 29th-place.

With the finish, Larson remains in 19th in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup standings.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

 The caution flag was shown seven times for a total of 39 laps  The race ended two laps passed the scheduled length with a green-white-checkered finish • The lead changed 21 times amongst nine drivers

TCGRFS QUOTEBOARD

Kyle Larson, No. 42 Target Plaid Chevrolet SS – “Not the day we were hoping for at Kansas. We started off tight, then got a little loose early in the race. We made some good adjustments on the Target Chevy early in the race and grabbed some spots after the second caution. We started running better after that, but I got really loose into turn three around Lap 90 and hit the wall, which really hurt our balance for the rest of the race. It was unfortunate, but everyone hung in for the rest of the race to get the best finish we could.”

NSCS teams will run the CampingWorld.com 500 at on Sunday, Oct. 25. NBCSN, SiriusXM Channel 90 and MRN will have live coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
