La carrera en la que participarán los mejores ejemplares de tres años de USA integrará la reunión del sábado 18, en San Isidro, dentro un programa que contará con pruebas de jerarquía, tales como el Clásico Velocidad (G3) y el Clásico Southern Halo (G3). Viva la emoción de la prestigiosa competencia de Maryland, desde Pimlico Race Couse (USA) en la pantalla de San Isidro. Disfrute el segundo eslabón de la Triple Corona de USA, serie que se completa con el Kentucky Derby (G1), corrido el pasado 4 de mayo; y el Belmont Stakes (G1), a disputarse dentro de tres semanas. Thomas This year’s Kentucky Derby report was in jeopardy. Not because of all that has been going on in the world, but because the uncertainty and overwhelming emotional stress in my personal life had me close to pulling out the white flag. My dearly beloved life-partner Tonia, who had been battling cancer since the summer of 2018, passed away in March. Breast cancer had traveled to her brain, (my father died of brain cancer, also at home, in 2002) and two days after my birthday on October 22, 2020, we were told Tonia had 6 months to live. She passed on March 6th, 2021. Two days after Tonia left us, my mother, who I also am caregiver for, fell and fractured her hip. At the writing of this very sentence my mother is yet in a rehab facility struggling to recover. It goes without saying that as March churned into April, doing our 11th derby report wasn’t high on my list of things to do. But there was something that wasn’t right about not doing our analysis of the contenders. It was a quiet nudge I was unable to ignore. I just couldn’t let the horses run away from me. I began to realize that not doing the report wasn’t an option, I needed the distraction. Horses are my passion and racing is the sport I love.

    2016 TRIPLE CROWN TRAIL by Jean Derench In 1996, GRINDSTONE won the Louisiana Derby. He defeated Zarb's Magic which won the Arkansas Derby and then went on to defeat Baffert's Cavonnier in the Run for the Roses. Grindstone won half of his six lifetime races and the Kentucky Derby was his last career start. He eventually as the sire of Belmont Stakes winner Birdstone, which upset favored Smarty Jones in that event. Grindstone was by Derby winner Unbridled. Prior to 1996, you have to go back to Black Gold's victory in 1924 to find a Louisiana Derby winner that went on to glory in Kentucky. However, in 2003, Funny Cide ran second and future classic winners Risen Star, Creme Fraiche & Drosselmeyer placed in the event. That being said, do we have a Kentucky Derby winner in the field of 11 that are projected to face the starter at the Fair Grounds this Saturday (March 26, 2016). I don't think so. But it does shape up to be a good betting race. I've covered several of the horses in my previous columns. Let me begin by introducing you to a few of the others. UNCLE WALTER is trained by Michael Maker who has won the last two editions of the Louisiana Derby (the recently deceased Vicar's In Trouble in 2014 and last year with International Star). Vicar's in Trouble would be last to California Chrome (who races in Dubai this weekend) and International Star was injured and didn't make it to Kentucky. Maker's entry this year is a son of Uncle Mo out of the Unbridled's Song mare Look For Good.
