i AWARENESS • EDUCATION • HOPE The Commonwealth Cancer Association Leadership

Message from the President

Hafa Adai Tirow and warm greetings to all.

It’s hard to believe that 2019 has already come to a close. It was yet another tremendous year for the Commonwealth Cancer Association and our people.

In executing our mission, we have continued to closely monitor the increase of new, on-going clients and have responded in turn to increase the total number and value of client vouchers. The increase in incidents of cancer remains a troubling trend in the CNMI and so we will continue to monitor this closely over the coming years. In an e ort to starve o these trends we have lead the increase in our programs and services.

We have accomplished much this past year. CCA continues to led important discussions throughout our community about our services, education, prevention and awareness about cancer. We are proud to be working with a wide range of dedicated advocates and organizations. We will to continue to work with the CNMI government, nonpro ts, the business community, and the faith-based community until there’s a genuine groundswell and focus on reducing risks and incidences of cancer amongst our people. We are also extraordinarily proud to have been able to help fund the renovation of the proposed Cancer Center at the hospital.

There are just a few of many accomplishments from last year. We are excited about identifying new priorities for the CCA as we look to a strong and bright future.

We owe a debt of gratitude and an immense amount of appreciation to the 2019 Marinas March Against Cancer Executive Committee, volunteers, sponsors, teams and their families and our community. Without their hard work to raise funds and spread awareness, we could not possibly be able to do everything that we do.

Finally, I want to thank our sta for working so hard to achieve everything they’ve done for us for in 2019. They are the heart and soul of this organization.

Our success is the community’s success. With the ongoing support of our donors, partners in healthcare, my fellow Board of Directors and volunteers, CCA is ready for the challenges and achievements ahead in 2020.

Sincerely,

Bo T. Palacios, President

AWARENESS • EDUCATION • HOPE 17 Marianas March Against Cancer 2019 May 3-4, 2019 Theme: “One Community, One Journey”

CCA was extremely grateful to the MMAC 2019 Committee Members for their exemplary performances and commitment to raise awareness against cancer, and to raise funds for the CCA. This signature event for the CCA took on more signi cant meaning following the destruction of super-typhoon Yutu only six months prior. While the MMAC 2019 remained focused on fundraising, it was also very important to the CCA to bring everyone together as a community following the disasters, to celebrate our strength and resiliency. This strength and resiliency was evident by the overwhelming support, despite the disaster, for the MMAC 2019.
