Here’s how: a) Mix Activator Crème (STEP 2A) and Crème Relaxer (STEP 2B) according to MIXING INSTRUCTIONS in SECTION II of this sheet. b) Take a small section of your hair from the back of your hairline, and apply mixture evenly on unrelaxed area of hair (new growth or virgin hair). Do not allow mixture to overlap on previously relaxed hair. c) After 8 minutes, smooth hair with even strokes according to the recommended time in the TIMING GUIDE. d) With warm water, thoroughly remove relaxer mixture from your hair. Apply a small amount of Neutralizing Shampoo (STEP 3). Lather and rinse shampoo from your hair strands. Pink lather means relaxer is still on your hair. When shampoo is completely white, all the relaxer is rinsed from your hair. e) Gently stretch the strands from your test. IF YOUR HAIR BREAKS EASILY, APPEARS WEAKENED OR DAMAGED, DO NOT RELAX THE REST OF YOUR HAIR. f) If skin allergy or irritation occurs, DO NOT RELAX YOUR HAIR. g) If the hair from your strand test is not straight enough, when you follow the directions for relaxing the remainder of your hair, increase the smoothing frequency for greater straightness, but DO NOT EXCEED TIMING GUIDE. h) If the strand test is satisfactory, continue to the next steps to relax the remainder of your hair. DO NOT RE-APPLY RELAXER CRÈME MIXTURE TO HAIR USED FOR THE STRAND TEST. DIRECTIONS FOR RELAXING I. SCALPGUARD™ PROTECTIVE SCALP BASE APPLICATION - STEP 1 a) Carefully detangle your hair with a large comb, being careful not to aggravate the scalp. b) Part your hair into 4 sections, down the middle and from ear-to-ear, using hair clips to secure hair in place. Be careful not to scratch your scalp with the comb. c) Apply ScalpGuard ™ onto your scalp along the four part lines. Make additional parts in each section, applying on the part lines. Finally, apply around your hairline and along the outer top of your ears. II. MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACTIVATOR & RELAXER CRÈME IMPORTANT: RELAXER CRÈME (STEP 2B) MUST BE THROUGHLY MIXED WITH CRÈME CONDITIONING ACTIVATOR (STEP 2A) BEFORE APPLYING TO HAIR. a) Put on protective gloves. b) Use the wooden spatula to make a hollow center in the Creme jar (STEP 2B). c) Squeeze the entire contents of the Activator Creme packet (STEP 2A) in Relaxer Creme jar (STEP 2B). Mix vigorously until mixture is creamy and uniform in color. REMEMBER: This Crème Relaxer is properly mixed only when the mixture is smooth, creamy (no lumps) and uniform in color (no white streaks). NOTE: AN IMPROPERLY MIXED RELAXER CRÈME CAN PRODUCE AN UNSATISFACTORY EXPERIENCE. Do not allow mixture to stand for more than 30 minutes prior to use. III. RELAXER APPLICATION a) Set timer as indicated by your strand test and the timing guide. b) Start applying the relaxer crème to new growth in the back sections of your hair by making small ¼ inch partings, and then applying Relaxer Crème to new growth (or virgin hair) with the back of the Tail Comb (or a relaxer applicator). Apply, working your way up and completing each section, from the nape to the crown, and then from the crown to the hair line. Apply to the hair line edges last. RE-TOUCHING NEW GROWTH a) If hair has been relaxed before, APPLY ONLY ON THE NEW GROWTH. Never apply sooner than 6 weeks following your last relaxer treatment. b) Avoid spreading or overlapping Relaxer Crème mixture on previously relaxed hair. FOR UNRELAXED (VIRGIN) HAIR a) Before applying Relaxer Crème, very carefully and gently detangle hair in each section using a Wide Tooth Comb. Do not force the comb through tangles. b) Apply the Relaxer Crème by spreading the mixture down the entire length of hair, from the roots to tips, section by section. c) Using your fingers or a Wide Tooth Comb, carefully distribute Relaxer Crème through each section to ensure even coverage. DO NOT allow comb to touch your scalp, tug, pull, or force comb through tangles. Use fingers to rake mixture through hair for even better distribution. IV. SMOOTHING a) Smoothing the hair improves straightening. FOR RETOUCHING NEW GROWTH, limit smoothing to new growth ONLY. With a Wide Tooth Comb, separate hair into small sections. Do not allow the comb to touch the scalp. Then using your fingers, start near the scalp and smooth the new growth. Use short, firm strokes and follow the natural pattern of your hair. Be sure to also smooth the hairline, including the edges, around the ear, and the nape of the neck. For VIRGIN HAIR APPLICATION, take small sections of hair and smooth from roots to tips with your fingers. Check the TIMING GUIDE for the recommended smoothing time for our hair type. V. RINSE RELAXER WITH WATER a) Thoroughly rinse your hair with warm water to remove all of the Relaxer Crème. Keep your eyes closed tightly, and keep Relaxer Crème away from your face, eyes, mouth, and ears. While rinsing, use your fingers to gently open parts in the hair so the water can work its way through. DO NOT PULL OR TUG WHEN RINSING. b) Make sure that water removes all visible traces of Relaxer Crème from your hair, before continuing to next step. VI. SHAMPOO WITH NEUTRALIZING HAIR WASH – STEP 3 a) Only apply Neutralizing Hair Wash after all visible traces of relaxer have been removed with warm water. b) Apply Neutralizing Hair Wash (STEP 3) and gently work into lather. Rinse thoroughly and repeat, checking for traces of pink lather. Continue to shampoo and rinse (generally 2-3 times) until all traces of pink lather is gone, and the lather is completely white. c) After final rinse, gently squeeze excess water from hair. IMPORTANT: PINK LATHER MEANS THAT RELAXER CRÈME IS STILL ON HAIR. WHITE LATHER MEANS THAT THERE IS NO RELAXER CRÈME ON HAIR. Shampoo and rinse as many times as needed, until lather is white. VII. APPLY THE CUTICLE STABILIZER™ – STEP 4 a) After shampooing with Neutralizing Hair Wash (STEP 3), squeeze excess water from hair. Apply contents of Cuticle Stabilizer packet (STEP 4) to your hair, gently distributing from roots to tip with your fingers. b) After applying, do not touch hair for 2 minutes. You may notice a light foam or bubbles. This is normal. After leaving on for 2 minutes, thoroughly rinse all traces from hair. Gently squeeze and towel blot excess water from hair. VIII. COAT HAIR WITH RESTORATIVE CONDITIONER – STEP 5 a) Apply a generous amount of Restorative Conditioner (STEP 5), gently combing with a WIDE TOOTH COMB, distributing from roots to tip, until all tangles are removed.
