While Ecuador is in an area of high seismic activity, this quake serves to be the largest that the country has experienced since 1979. The tremors from the quake were felt nearly 200 miles from its epicenter and damaged infrastructure in the major cities of Muisine, Manta, Portoviejo, and Pedernales. In response, Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas has declared a state of emergency, and consequently 10,000 soldiers and 4,600 police officers have been deployed to the affected areas. The quake struck nearly 17 miles south of Muisine, and the U.S. Geological Survey has reported that it took place at the relatively shallow depth of 11.9 miles. Ecuador lies in an area of high seismic activity known as the “Ring of Fire.” This area serves as the boundary between the Nazca and South American tectonic plates, where the Nazca plate is currently being subjected under the South American plate at a rate of 65 mm each year. It is the act of these tectonic plates rubbing against each other that caused the earthquake, in addition to the more than 130 aftershocks that have taken place. Franklin can still shut down the competition with a breathtaking, gospel-trained grace and power. Here, she tackles tunes by her peers, adding royal luster to Gladys Knight’s ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ and the Supremes’ ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On.’ She saves extra energy for songs by younger neo-soul stars. She adds a welcome reggae feel to Alicia Keys’ ‘No One,’ and takes Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ to stratospheric heights. When Franklin then surprises with a segue into the Motown classic ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,’ the wow factor is off the charts. That’s also the case on a mashup of ‘I’m Every Woman’ with a revived version of ‘Respect,’ on which Franklin ad-libs, ‘I am the Queen.’ Let there be no argument about that.” - THE BOSTON GLOBE “Aretha’s brand new album is shaping up as another key moment in Franklin’s half-century recording career, artistically and potentially commercially rejuvenating her once again.

  • PRESSEMITTEILUNG 10.12.2014 the Preatures Kommen Auf Tour
FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel.

I begin this chapter by arguing against any sort of prescriptive defnitions for Indigenous Australian music. I will then illustrate change in public discourse on Indigenous music by examining the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards for Best Indigenous Release (1987–1998) and for Best World Music Album (1999–2016). Te chapter then proceeds to highlight two increasingly common features of the work of Indigenous musical artists: reference to one’s specifc Indigenous cultural identity (e.g. Noongar, Bundjalung, Yorta Yorta) in popular music performance, and writing and performing popular music in Indigenous languages. Te chapter concludes by illustrating how frequently Indigenous artists collaborate with non-Indigenous artists in the production and performance of popular music. Tese practices serve as examples of Indigenous agency: position-taking within the cultural feld of popular music. ‘Indigenous music’ is not a musical genre Te Australia Council for the Arts’ Protocols for Producing Indigenous Australian Music refers to Indigenous music as being I NDIGENOUS MUSIC ‘created primarily by Indigenous Australian people, or based on the cultural property of Indigenous Australian people’ (Quiggin 2007, p.

Dawn Walker Monday, 28 May 2018 Legislative Council Page 1 The CHAIR: Good afternoon and welcome to the second hearing of the Portfolio Committee No. 6— Planning and Environment, Inquiry into the Music and Arts Economy in New South Wales. The inquiry is examining the New South Wales Government's progress in implementing its response to the Sydney Night-Time Economy Roundtable Action Plan policies to support music and arts culture, including permanent and temporary venue spaces, and policy and legislation options drawn from other jurisdictions. The Committee is also considering whether local councils are setting realistic noise abatement and environmental impact targets in their consideration of development applications from cafes, restaurants and live music venues. Before I commence, I acknowledge the Gadigal people, who are the traditional custodians of this land. I pay my respects to the elders, past and present, of the Eora Nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people who may be present or listening online today. We will hear from the Inner West Council, Commercial Radio Australia, the New South Wales Police Force, Ms Isabella Manfredi, the Australian Recording Industry Association [ARIA], AMP Capital, Save Live Music Australia, the Electronic Music Conference, and the National Association for the Visual Arts.
