Joker (2019 Film) - Wikipedia
Joker (2019 film) - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joker_(2019_film) Joker (2019 film) Joker is a 2019 American psychological thriller film directed by Todd Joker Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film, based on DC Comics characters, stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. An origin story set in 1981, the film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron appear in supporting roles. Joker was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, and Joint Effort in association with Bron Creative and Village Roadshow Pictures, and distributed by Warner Bros. Phillips conceived Joker in 2016 and wrote the script with Silver throughout 2017. The two were inspired by 1970s character studies and the films of Martin Scorsese, who was initially attached to the project as a producer. The graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke (1988) was the basis for the premise, but Phillips and Silver otherwise did not look to specific comics for inspiration. Phoenix became attached in February 2018 and was cast that July, while the majority of the cast signed on by August. Theatrical release poster Principal photography took place in New York City, Jersey City, and Newark, from September to December 2018. It is the first live-action Directed by Todd Phillips theatrical Batman film to receive an R-rating from the Motion Picture Produced by Todd Phillips Association of America, due to its violent and disturbing content. -

Author Functions, Auteur Fictions Understanding Authorship in Conglomerate Hollywood Commerce, Culture, and Narrative
Author Functions, Auteur Fictions Understanding Authorship in Conglomerate Hollywood Commerce, Culture, and Narrative VOLUME I: ARGUMENTS Thomas James Wardak A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Sheffield Faculty of Arts and Humanities School of English Literature March 2017 i Abstract In 1990, Timothy Corrigan identified a rising trend in Hollywood film marketing wherein the director, or auteur, had become commercially galvanised as a brand icon. This thesis updates Corrigan’s treatise on the ‘commerce of auteurism’ to a specific 2017 perspective in order to dismantle the discursive mechanisms by which commodified author-brands create meaning and value in Conglomerate Hollywood’s promotional superstructure. By adopting a tripartite theoretical/industrial/textual analytical framework distinct from the humanistic and subjectivist excesses of traditional auteurism, by which conceptions of film authorship have typically been circumscribed, this thesis seeks to answer the oft- neglected question how does authorship work as it relates to the contemporary blockbuster narrative. Naturally, this necessitates a corresponding understanding of how texts work, which leads to the construction of a spectator-centric cognitive narratorial heuristic that conceptualises ‘the author’ as a hermeneutic code which may be activated when presented with sufficient ‘authorial’ signals. Of course, authorial signals do not only emanate from films but also promotional paratexts such -

Movie Trailers and Their Need for Access & Preservation
Coming Soon to an Archive Near You: Movie Trailers and Their Need for Access & Preservation Samantha Melanie-Anne Losben Tisch School of the Arts Department of Cinema Studies May 7, 2011 A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Professor Dan Streible, Faculty Advisor New York University, 2011 1 Abstract Movie trailers have been a part of the cinematic experience for almost as long as there have been movies. Over the years, the merits of trailers have been disputed among moviegoers. Some see trailers as entertaining and informative, while others see them merely as spoilers or a waste of time. Regardless of reputation, trailers are a significant part of the film industry. Trailers have the power to captivate, excite and entice viewers in a short time period. A trailer is usually a person’s first concept of a film and often may determine whether or not they see it. However, despite their role in promoting the industry and their own inherent creativity, trailers are often treated as nothing more than disposable advertising material. Many trailers find their way into archives simply by accident, which begs the question how are trailers regarded in the film archiving field? How are trailers currently incorporated into archives and how should they ideally be integrated? How are trailers currently accessed and should they be preserved? This thesis will explore the history and significance of theatrical trailers for feature films and how they are currently being accessed and incorporated into film archives. -

Telluride Indie Fest 2000 Greets & Gathers First Time & Seasoned
The 2nd Annual Golden Trailer Awards – A Forecast for Things to Come at the Academy Awards? By Vinca Liane Jarrett The 2nd Annual Golden Trailer Awards, conducted January 14, 2001 went with few hitches to hem and haw about and in grand style at New York’s prestigious Manhattan Center from 7 p.m. until Midnight. Black chic gowns and tuxedos adorned the $500 a head crowd who waited anxiously on line outside the theatre, as the formally attired doorman guided people into the exclusive event. Sparkling cider was handed out on the next line to the elevator, and finally attendees made their way through the coat check line, which wound around circular corridors. In the grand ballroom, tables were lavishly spread with buckets of popcorn and wrapped licorice sticks, as television stations swarmed industry notables for interviews. The event gives artistic and professional recognition primarily to editors and their production staffs who construct film trailers for the film-going public to guess at what movies we’ll want to see, and for which I personally require prior to the start of any feature, especially when ticket prices have soared to $9/head even here in Boston. This year’s event appears to have mirrored what I expect to see a lot more of at the 2001 Academy Awards in March, although instead of Robin Williams hosting, Todd Newton, comedian and radio-personality (a.k.a. Rikk Idol), spunked up the sometimes all-too-solemn crowd. With nineteen awards total, stylishly designed by Cambridge native Kyle Damon, and nominees that included mega-blockbuster hits such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Requiem for a Dream, Almost Famous, Gladiator, Cast Away, The Patriot, and even Charlie’s Angels, there were some unexpected winners as well, such as the Dark and Stormy Night Award going to Hollow Man. -
