1992 : Radio Tangra is established by Kiril Marichkov & Konstantin Markov, leaders of Shturtsite and Tangra - two of the most popular Bulgarian bands. Radio Tangra is among the first privately owned radio stations. Format: . 1994 : Radio Tangra has already become the market leader in Sofia. David Byrne from the Talking Heads performs a big concert for the radio’s birthday. 1998 : The first radio to support music made by Bulgarian artists – plays 3 songs per hour, organizes live concerts. 1999 : Officially becomes Rock Radio Tangra – “The only one in Bulgaria!” with a huge concert on May 31st in the center of Sofia in front of 15,000. 2000 : Wins licenses for broadcasting in 8 of the biggest cities in Bulgaria. 2002 : Majority of shares sold to a “strategic investor”, who is expected to expand the network. 2003 : The “strategic investor” transforms the radio into a sports one, name changes to Gong. In May 2006 Tangra Mega Rock started the operation Bulgarian Rock is Alive to revive the memory of the best Bulgarian rock bands. More than 50 of our best musicians visited our studio in May to tell the stories behind their music. In June we received demo tapes from more than 70 young rock bands. Bulgarian Rock is Alive
