Chester softball opens with loss
The Chester High School softball team struggled to piece hits together March 17, and the Lady Yellow Jackets dropped their season opener at Herrin, 8-3. Chester scored twice in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Yellow Jackets en- tered the inning down 8-1. The teams were tied at 1 after three innings of play, but Herrin struck for two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added four in the sixth. Hailey Middendorf doubled and drove in two runs for Chester. Brea Bruan added a hit and a stolen base. The Lady Yellow Jackets were held to four hits. Jenna Wahl was saddled with the loss. Four errors were committed behind her. Lexi Childers led Herrin with a 3-for-4 day at the dish.
