1. Objective

To select athletes capable of producing the best possible performances at the 2017 Winter Universiade

2. Selection Committee

2.1 The selection committee will comprise the National Head Coach and two other members as appointed by the relevant discipline committee. Where an Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) program is in place, the National Head Coach position on the committee will be filled by the OWIA Head Program or Technical coach.

2.2 A majority decision of the selection committee is required. The decision of the selection committee shall be final. Reasons shall not be given for any selection or other decision of the selection committee unless requested by non-selected athlete(s). The selection committee may meet with non- selected athletes to explain their decision.

2.3 Unless expressly requested by the selection committee, athletes have no right to make submissions or representations to, or appear before, the selection committee. Any right or claim to natural justice in this regard is expressly excluded, such right being preserved in the appeal process under section 8.

2.4 Selections made by the relevant discipline committee are subject to final approval by the SSA Board.

3. Eligibility

3.1 To be eligible for selection athletes must:

3.1.1 Be a current member of SSA; 3.1.2 Hold an SSA license to compete at the relevant level; and 3.1.3 Have met the minimum FIS points required for participation at the selected level. 3.1.4 Have appropriate competition insurance (as per FIS Rule 212.4) if competing internationally.

3.2 To be eligible for selection athletes must also satisfy FISU regulations 5.2.1 and 5.2.3,of the FISU eligibility criteria (refer page 2 of Attachment 1). It is the athlete’s responsibility to establish that he/ she meets all FISU and AUS eligibility requirements.

4. Conditions of Application for Selection

To be eligible for consideration for selection, athletes must have met the following performance standards and submit an expression of interest (refer Attachment 2) to SSA prior to Friday 7 October 2016.

4.1 Alpine Skiing

4.1.1 Tier 1 Selection: National Alpine Ski Team (A & B) Performance Standards (refer Qualification Standards Attachment 3)

4.1.2 Tier 2 Selection: National Alpine Ski Team (C & National Development Team) Performance Standards (refer Qualification Standards Attachment 3)

4.1.3 Tier 3 Selection: Athletes must have attained the following current FIS points or lower in the discipline for which they seek selection plus SSA Discretion (refer Qualification Standards Attachment 3)

4.2 Cross Country Skiing

4.2.1 Tier 1 Selection: Performance Standard (A): 120 FIS points (distance or sprint) (refer 6.2.1.1 Attachment 4)

4.2.2 Tier 2 Selection: Performance Standard (B): 195 FIS points (distance or sprint) (refer 6.2.1.2 Attachment 4)

4.3 Freestyle Skiing

4.3.1 Aerial Skiing

4.3.1.1 Tier 1 Selection: 200 FIS Freestyle Aerial Skiing points or higher

4.3.1.2 Tier 2 Selection: 100 FIS Freestyle Aerial Skiing points or higher

4.3.1.3 Tier 3 Selection: Minimum FIS Points required for entry plus SSA Discretion (refer Attachment 7)

4.3.2 Mogul Skiing/ Dual Moguls

4.3.2.1 Tier 1 Selection: World Cup Team Performance Standards (refer Section 5.Attachment 5)

4.3.2.2 Tier 2 Selection: 100 FIS Freestyle Mogul Skiing points or higher

4.3.2.3 Tier 3 Selection: Minimum FIS Points required for entry plus SSA Discretion (refer Attachment 7)

4.3.3 Ski Cross:

4.3.3.1 Tier 1 Selection: 200 FIS Freestyle Ski Cross points or higher

4.3.3.2 Tier 2 Selection: 100 FIS Freestyle Ski Cross points or higher

4.3.3.3 Tier 3 Selection: Minimum FIS Points required for entry plus SSA Discretion (refer Attachment 7)

4.4 Snowboard

4.4.1 Parallel Giant Slalom/ Parallel Slalom

4.4.1.1 Tier 1 Selection: National Snowboard Team Performance Standards (Tier 1 & 2 & 3) (refer Attachment 6)

5. Selection Priority

Selection priority will be made according to tiered performance levels as outlined in Section 4 and associated attachments.

6. Notification

6.1 Athletes eligible for selection are required to notify the SSA office of their desire to be considered for selection as per the published Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

6.2 Subject to any constraints which may be imposed on SSA by third parties, athletes selected will be notified of their selection as soon as reasonably practicable after their individual selection or finalisation of the relevant squad, team or position.

7. Extenuating Circumstances

7.1 In considering the selection criteria, the selection committee may in their discretion give weight to extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances may include but are not limited to injury, personal bereavement, equipment failure and travel delays.

7.2 Athletes unable to compete at events, trials, training camps required under these criteria must notify the SSA of this fact and the reasons therefore at least five days prior to the commencement of the events, trials, training camps or other attendances required under this policy.

7.3 In the case of illness or injury, athletes may be required to undergo a medical examination by a doctor or doctors appointed by SSA.

7.4 In the case of bereavement, equipment failure, travel delays, or other extenuating circumstances, the selection committee will make a decision on a case by case basis.
