Contact:: Tim Calcara Manager: “Airwaves” [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Local band performs to support Harvey victims Cedar Rapids, Iowa, August 31, 2017: This weekend, a local band, performing at the Festival of Beers in Amana will be raising money to help Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. Airwaves is a six-year old retro-rock band based in Marion that has performed at area city-celebrations, wineries and special events such as Freedom Festival and Marion by Moonlight. They raise money by displaying a tip jar on the stage in full view of their audience. The band invites patrons to drop a few bucks in the jar and all money raised goes to charity. It’s a very low-key approach that apparently is paying huge dividends. Since 2012, they have raised thousands of dollars for a variety of causes including funds to drill water wells in India. They’ve raised money to purchase food boxes for area families with limited access to nutritious meals. This year they have even raised money to fight human trafficking in Iowa. Tim Calcara, band manager explains: “I guess you could say we’re a band on a mission. Our goal is to alleviate some of the suffering in our world by using our music to help those who need assistance. In the past, we have partnered with HACAP, the Salvation Army, and Compassion International and they’ve been so supportive. This year, we are excited to be supporting Chains Interrupted, a local organization committed to fighting human trafficking and Samaritan’s Purse to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey.” This Sunday, everything that goes into the tip jar during their concert will go to Samaritan’s Purse to bring aid to those who have suffered loss from the flooding in Texas. They will be performing at Millstream Brewing Co. from 1- 5pm at the Iowa Festival of Beers hosted by Millstream Brewing Company. Their goal is to raise $2000. The band has agreed to matching all tips generated - up to $1000. “Matching the tips is a great way to create excitement,” said Calcara. “When we agree to match whatever’s raised, $10 becomes $20; $20 becomes $40, and on it goes. The tipper gets excited because their impact doubles and Airwaves get excited because we get to write bigger checks.” Airwaves has seven members from three different families. Jonathan Dyrland is lead vocalist. His wife, Meegan, sings back up. The other five band members include Kurt Feller on bass and son, Zach on Drums. Adam Calcara on lead guitar, Adam’s brother Brett plays guitars, keys and vocals. Their dad, Tim Calcara serves as the band booking manager and plays synth, sax, flute and harmonica. They cover some of the most popular retro rock music of the last 50 years featuring such artists as Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Rascal Flatts, the Beatles, U2 and the Doobie Brothers. These labels are designed to print on the NEATO 180955 pre-perforated cd labels & card stock! They include appoximately 1/4 inch extra “bleed” around the perforations, in order to account for small differences in printers and software issues. If you print these labels on PLAIN PAPER, you will need to trim the extra bleed area away or they will not fit.
