The visionary mantle that fell upon the delegation attending the 1906 Louisiana Baptist Convention inspired an institution that still remains a century later: . The vision to produce, within its walls, generations of faithful men and women dedicated to building humanity through the knowledge of Christ, spiritual faith, strong leadership, and a commitment to excellence in education continues to define the mission of Louisiana College. The vision of the founding fathers is still clutched in the bosom of faithful leaders and professors who continue to carry the mantle.

Events 4 Historical 16 Sports 32 School spirit has always been a part of Louisiana College life. Throughout the year, Homecoming, Fill the Fieldhouse, and other student life activities allow LC students to show off this spirit through cheers, painting up, and wonderful tailgating before a game. To Generation...

At Louisiana College, history is not just a class to struggle through; history is all around the campus. Alexandria Hall was built in 1920, and it is the oldest building on campus. Originally built with stairs leading to the second floor, it was remodelled in 1979 to its present state.

Louisiana College takes pride in offering events that develop student character, promote civic interests, and nurture family relationships while providing fun and fellowship for participants. Many activities encourage students to develop interests outside of academics. Cochon de Lait, a most anticipated event, inspires students of all backgrounds to experience the Cajun culture, its food traditions and unique dialect. Another popular event is Mom's Weekend, where mothers and daughters cherish fading moments of adolescence and look forward to forming treasured adult relationships.

The Centennial Homecoming will go down in history as an event embellished with Presidential honors. Former President George H.W. Bush addressed the student body and national dignitaries. But on a more humble level, annual events that inspire a competitive spirit are Last Man Standing, the annual Tricycle Race, Battle of the Bands, and Homecoming Honey where the winner receives the treasured prize of a reserved parking space in front of Tudor Hall.

L5 IAQentiiry of ^Memories Louisiana College alumni carry with them fond memories. For some, the memories have filtered down through generations. For others, new traditions are beginning, but for all, the memories are treasured for a lifetime. Louisiana College remains a traditional fixture among the pines on a gently sloping hill. Listening with the heart, pine-needle melodies can be heard floating through the air, stirring the senses, and bringing the past to life. Easily, one can imagine apparitions of saintly alumni humming the LC "Alma Mater Song" with its promises of unceasing love and eternal devotion. As the ground yields artifacts that whisper from the past, tales of fires, tornadoes, trials, heartaches, and victories each make their mark on a century of life. For Louisiana College, life must have its share of accomplishments and defeats in order to write a legacy worth passing.

32 Sports Running the race .

For generations, athletic programs at Louisiana College have from time to time, produced athletes who are recruited by professional entities. It is not only the physical attributes of LC athletes that make them so desirable—it is their character as well. Athletes at Louisiana College, whether playing team sports or being participants in intramural activities, are taught the value of good sportsmanship and the importance of team spirit. The challenge of striving for athletic excellence, and the necessity of respecting the opposition are precepts, that if embraced by the individual, will build well-rounded athletes who collectively contribute to winning through fair play.

Go team; we're with you!

The Louisiana College tennis team is young but exhibits determination. Eight of the eleven players last season lacked experience in tennis but compensated in persistence. Five of those players made it to the semi finals. Each year they improve in strength and statistical standings; it is hoped and believed that the trend will continue into the 2007 season. On the day of our photography shoot, this team braved the coldest day of the year to demonstrate their dedication to their sport.

Cheerleaders: Unifying Force The Wildcat Cheerleaders are the force that unifies the community behind the team. They are the caretakers of "team spirit," the buffer between the team and the community.

Preserving the spirit that feeds the soul is a formidable task, as it is the spirit that ignites the flames of competition-the desire to excel, to win.

LC cheerleaders fan the flames of encouragement that drive the body and the soul. It is hard to be a keeper of the flame.

Daring to please LC Wildcat Cheerleaders must first be willing to inspire themselves, push forward and strive for perfection before they can inspire others—and they do.

Louisiana College takes pride in offering a variety of recreational activities to its students. Participating in intramural sports is one way to ensure that students who want to play sports, but are limited by time constraints, may enjoy the fellowship of their friends while adhering to the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play. In the process, keeping fit is an added bonus as well as being able to plan their own schedules. Like institutional team sports, intramural activities serve students well by allowing them to become involved in social networks that help them to develop lasting friendships.

"I VIR AMUR ALS ARE A GREAT WAY TO EXPAND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH EMENDS OUTSIDE OF THE LEAKXIXt; ENVIRONMENT." Kortney Smith

The students at LC would like to take the opportunity to recognize Dr. William Todd, Intramural Director, for his contributions and dedication to the LC intramural and sports programs throughout the years. His generosity in giving of himself to both the students and programs are living testaments of his loving disposition toward his fellowman.

148' CONNECTIONS Homeless Coalition The Homeless Coalition of Alexandria recruits volunteers each year to participate in a census of the homeless. Volunteers roam throughout the city into areas where the homeless congregate. This census is tallied by government organizations in a concerted effort to supply commodities and living quarters to qualifying individuals and families. Photographer Charele Lightner and Adviser Charlotte Spradling accompany two LC students who volunteer their services.

A squirrel climbs three stories to gather treats from a window ledge. The treats are lovingly placed there by a professor who treasures her friend and, no doubt, considers it as much a part of Louisiana College as the sun that filters through the live oak canopies and bathes the camellias that bloom in the midst of winter. Just like the professor, you probably have memories that you will treasure for your lifetime; maybe it won't be the squirrels, but it might be the fountain, or the swing, or even the columns holding up the porch at Guinn that are too big to wrap your arms around, but in the dark of night, you try anyway. Such subtle treasures will remain as long as Louisiana College exists, but should LC disappear tomorrow, you will still have your memories. And just like the love of Jesus who carries us in his bosom and engraves us in the palm of his hand, we have the assurance that we are a treasure in our Father's heart that He will hold for eternity. i

J^rom Qeneration to Qeneration...

I never understood, until this year, how much one project can overtake one's life. Many nights were spent with no sleep in order to get the pages of this book sent to the publisher on time. However, I believe that this yearbook, the 93rd edition of the Pine Knot, commemorating the Centennial celebration of Louisiana College, was worth losing a little sleep over. I wish I could say I put together this edition by myself, but that would a terrible lie. Mrs. Spradling spent many hours in Alexandria Hall and at home writing captions and articles, proofing my captions, and scanning pictures for our alumni presentation. My fiance, Suzy Hanson, got pulled into the staff, probably quite unwillingly; although, she never let me know. She energetically put together several pages when deadlines were close. Dusty Dodge, Suzanne Brown, and Charelle Lightner were an amazing staff that covered events when I did not even know they were occurring. Mr. Don Shipley, Chair of EJL, was always available to bounce around ideas and is a wonderful support for the yearbook staff. The English faculty rescued this yearbook from my uncountable grammatical and spelling errors, and a heartfelt "Thank You" is given to them. Mrs. Georgiana Kendall, our Jostens representative, kept me sane and encouraged me through the entire publishing process. She was an incredible help to me, as I had not dealt with yearbooks for several years.

As this book comes to a close, I can only hope that students, here at Louisiana College, continue to maintain the excellence tnat has been instilled in them during their short tenure. As I have looked through decades of past yearbooks while preparing for this edition, I've seen pictures of buildings that no longer exist, examined aerial shots of a campus that I can only vaguely recognize, and read articles about a culture with which I cannot identify. None of these things, however, are Louisiana College.

LC is an education, an investment in the future of students' lives. Buildings and people have come and gone, but the lessons learned, both in and out of the classroom, have molded students into analytical thinkers who have been equipped with the tools to tackle any problem. The unique value of a liberal arts degree is the potential to apply what you have learned to other fields of study. That's why all you English majors had to take mathematics and mathematics majors had to take English, but its that liberal arts education that has allowed me, a senior mathematics major with no particular journalistic talent, to bring together a book like this one. To students who still have time left in their college careers: Push yourself. Stretch your abilities until you think you will break. You will find yourself a stronger, happier, and better person on the other side. I know--l have. Taylor Smith Editor-in-Chief 2007 Pineknot Colophon

The Pineknot, Volume 93, was produced by the yearbook staff at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA and was printed by Jostens in Topeka, KS 66601. Ms. Georgiana Kendall was the company representative and Ms. Laura North was the plant consultant.

Advisor, Charlotte Spradling, and Editor-in-Chief, Taylor Smith, developed the theme "From Generation to Generation" in the early part of the 2006 Fall semester. The cover was designed by Taylor Smith by taking portrait photos from over 20 yearbooks spanning 1929-2006.

The photos of the 93rd volume of the Pineknot were taken exclusively on digital cameras and uploaded to Yearbook Avenue, Josten's online yearbook creation tool. Photos were also obtained from the Louisiana College Public Relations office and students of Louisiana College.

Text fonts varied throughout the yearbook by section, with the majority of body copy being Helvetica font at 12 point and captions being Times font at 8 point.

All 156 pages were designed and layed out in Yearbook Avenue using Windows Internet Explorer as the web browser.
