The visionary mantle that fell upon the delegation attending the 1906 Louisiana Baptist Convention inspired an institution that still remains a century later: Louisiana College. The vision to produce, within its walls, generations of faithful men and women dedicated to building humanity through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, spiritual faith, strong leadership, and a commitment to excellence in education continues to define the mission of Louisiana College. The vision of the founding fathers is still clutched in the bosom of faithful leaders and professors who continue to carry the mantle. Events 4 Historical 16 Sports 32 School spirit has always been a part of Louisiana College life. Throughout the year, Homecoming, Fill the Fieldhouse, and other student life activities allow LC students to show off this spirit through cheers, painting up, and wonderful tailgating before a game. To Generation... At Louisiana College, history is not just a class to struggle through; history is all around the campus. Alexandria Hall was built in 1920, and it is the oldest building on campus. Originally built with stairs leading to the second floor, it was remodelled in 1979 to its present state. In the student center, Lewis Evans saves lives by giving blood during the LifeShare blood drive. A record number of donations were collected during the fall event. Students braved the mechanical bull to see who would boast the longest ride during the Homecoming Hoedown in Walden Gym. Events Academic Antidotes, Louisiana College takes pride in offering events that develop student character, promote civic interests, and nurture family relationships while providing fun and fellowship for participants. Many activities encourage students to develop interests outside of academics. Cochon de Lait, a most anticipated event, inspires students of all backgrounds to experience the Cajun culture, its food traditions and unique dialect. Another popular event is Mom's Weekend, where mothers and daughters cherish fading moments of adolescence and look forward to forming treasured adult relationships. The Centennial Homecoming will go down in history as an event embellished with Presidential honors. Former President George H.W. Bush addressed the student body and national dignitaries. But on a more humble level, annual events that inspire a competitive spirit are Last Man Standing, the annual Tricycle Race, Battle of the Bands, and Homecoming Honey where the winner receives the treasured prize of a reserved parking space in front of Tudor Hall. Amid the energizing cheers from enthusiastic and hopeful LC fans, the Louisianians began to sing the National Anthem. The grand finale to the Centennial Homecoming events had begun. Fans and students alike cheered the LC team to a near win against Howard Payne. The hard fought game on the home turf ended with a loss, but the half-time events left memories of a lifetime for the Homecoming Court and all attendees. Other Homecoming events yielded fruits of family fun, competitive games, and continuing traditions. The Hoedown, Last Man Standing, the Tricycle Race, and the Pep Rally were among the most exciting events. Fight and determination define the LC Wildcats. Another One Bites the Dust Although 8 seconds might seem like a short time when sitting on the Cottingham swing with a sweetheart, many students can testify that 8 seconds seems like an eternity on the mechanical bull. m i % il h^4 What a Gas! No, new professor Donna Shipley, EJL Department (do you really claim him, er. her?) entertains at the Cottingham Hall Halloween event. The sight was a torturous event, indeed! Dr. Linda Peevy reads stories to her class during a bonfire in Cottingham forest. Dr. Peevy is known for her devotion to teaching and her close relationships with students. The bonfire allowed students to hear some ghost stories and fellowship with friends on the warm fall night of Oct. 31, 2006. In complete disguise, this unknown assailant roamed the halls of the student center looking for a fight. However, the question on everyone's mind was, "Where is his electric guitar?" 12 Mom's Weekend Seeing Double in Cottingham Mothers make the world go around. So during Mom's Weekend, we try to thank them for that. Games, concerts, and food center around those we lovingly call "Mom." Q: What did you and your mom do during Mom's Weekend? A: "Well, my mom, being in town, gave us a great excuse to go wedding shopping!" Jenny Torrence, Senior Q: What did you and your mom bring to the pajama party? A: "It's definitely the time of the weekend when everyone laughs the most!"
