Hostel life provides conducive atmosphere for the overall personality development. All students are expected to maintain serene academic atmosphere helping each other to achieve excellence. 1. HOSTEL FACILITIES 2.1 Background: The hostel dates back to 1869, after the College came into existence in 1854. Initially, it was started as a hostel to house the subordinate officers of the Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School, for carrying out public works like buildings, dams, canals, railways and bridges. Later on, the hostel was known as "Poona Civil Engineering College Hostel" and subsequently in the year 1911, the name was changed to the "College of Engineering Poona Hostel", popularly known as the COEP Hostel. The hostel campus is located in the close proximity of institute campus. The bus as well as railways station (Shivajinagar) are just at 5 minutes walk. 2.2 Infrastructure: There are ten buildings in the hostel campus. Boy’s blocks are named as Purandar, Shivneri, Panhalgad, Torna, Raigad, Pratapgad, Sajjangad and Vishalgad, For Girls, there are two blocks namely Jijaoo and Kondhana. Kondhana and Pratapgad buildings are two storied, Vishalgad and Jijaoo Buildings are four storied and remaining building are three storied. The hostel campus houses about 1064 boys and 422 girl students. Further it comprise of hostel office, security room, guest house of three rooms, eight rectors quarters and director's residence. Student messes are run on co. operative basis. Amenities: The students are provided with basic amenities like cot, table, chair, cupboard in their rooms. The rooms are spacious, airy, and illuminated with the surroundings landscaped with greenery. Student’s common rooms have TV sets and carom. The water supply is for 24 hours. A generator ensures electric power supply to messes and common rooms. The college gymkhana ground is near the hostel for playing cricket, hockey, volley ball, foot ball, basket ball, tennis and jogging. The basket ball and tennis courts are floodlit allowing students to play late in the evening. There is a computer room with 100 latest HP technology with i7 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard disk machines for both boys and girls with 163 Mbps connectivity. Internet and Intranet connectivity is also provided in every room, additional Wi-Fi facility is provided at the hostel campus. Computer networking technology deployed at hostel campus by using latest CISCO technology manageable switches. The different operating systems and platforms are made available in computer room. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Hostel Information Brochure Year 2012 – 2013 The hostel campus maintenance like cleaning / sweeping, pest control is out sourced. The electrical repairs and security services are round the clock. Students' Co. Operative Store: A student’s co. operative store is functioning in the college as well as in the hostel campus. In hostel campus it functions suitably in the morning and evening hours. It is well equipped with all day to day needs of the students including drawing equipment and college stationary. Dispensary A facility of visiting doctor with a separate dispensary block within the hostel premises is available. Separate doctors are available for boys and girls. Telephone Booth: A telephone book with STD / ISD facility is available near the H Block for girl’s students. 3. Hostel Fee Structure (For boys and girls) a) Hostel fees for Regular students: Rs. 10,000/- / year / student. b) Hostel fees for NRI / FN / PIOs/Gulf: Rs. 37,500/- / year / student. c) Hostel Deposit for all students (Refundable) Rs. 5,000/- / student. (If paid already no need to deposit again). d) Hostel Mess deposit for boys (Refundable) Rs. 5,000/-/ student. (Hostel mess deposit should be paid, separately in cash to Mess Manager). e) For summer term students: Rs. 1,000/- student during summer term (No fees concession for the summer term stay in hostel). For those girl students who cannot get institute hostel as per rules, institute is planning to provide additional hostel facility by taking a building on rent and recover the substantial portion of the rent by dividing it amongst the occupants. The likely charges per student are Rs. 7,500/- for three months. Monthly Mess Bill: Boys Messes are run on co.-operative basis by student's committee. The monthly bill is calculated based on actual expenses. These expenses are around Rs. 1200/- to 1500/- per month. RULES FOR HOSTEL ADMISSION 2012-13 1. The admissions are branch wise and on merit basis (CGPA/CET Marks) and as per State Govt. reservation rules. 2. Merit list will be prepared on CGPA & having no backlog courses. The students having backlog courses* will have Second choice in hostel admission. 3. The students having more than four backlogs (including dropped/ detained courses) will not be considered for allotment of the hostel. 4. The students whose names were involved in misconduct in hostel will not be considered for allotment of hostel. 5. It is mandatory to pay full hostel fees by Demand Draft in favor of ‘Director, College of Engineering, Pune’ payable at Pune , the same should be submitted to Account section after verification at hostel office. 6. Hostel administration reserves the right to deny admission or cancel admission at any stage. 7. F. Y. B. Tech hostel allotment will be as per merit and branch wise. Once a student is allotted a hostel, subsequent change in branch will not lead to change in hostel allotment.
