2017-18 First Destination Survey Results John Brown University 2017-18 First Destination Survey Results Survey Administered by Raynisha Robinson, Report Prepared by Lynette Duncan, Director of Career Development Director of Institutional Research April 16, 2019 Introduction The JBU Career Development Center surveyed all prospective JBU graduates using the JBU First Destination Survey which reports future employment and education plans. This document summarizes the analysis of the survey given to December 2017 and May 2018 graduates. The survey was administered to prospective graduates from JBU’s traditional undergraduate (TUG), online undergraduate (OLUG), and graduate (GR) programs. In 2017-18, there were 268 TUG graduates, 111 OLUG graduates, and 193 GR graduates. Employment/Grad School Rates 2 3 Detailed Post-Graduation Status Post-Graduation Status TUG OLUG GR Employed and Not in Grad School and have not reported plans to attend Grad School 168 63 144 Employed and Not in Grad School but plan to attend Grad School 15 7 2 Employed and in Grad School 9 4 3 Total Employed 192 74 149 In Grad School and Not Employed 12 1 In Grad School; Employment Status unknown* 3 2 Not Employed and Not in Grad School but plan to attend Grad School 10 2 3 Not Employed and Not in Grad School and have not reported plans to attend Grad School 25 3 9 Total Responses 239 82 164 Total Graduates 268 111 193 Response Rate 89% 74% 85% *We obtained graduate school information through NSC, but these students did not complete a survey. 4 Internships Graduates were asked if they completed an internship prior to graduation. 5 Number of Jobs Applied For Graduates were asked “How many jobs have you applied for up this date?” If a graduate selected “None” but was already employed, they are shown as “Already Employed” on the chart. 6 Gross Salary Graduates were asked to indicate their gross salary range. Graduates with only part-time employment are included here. 7 Purpose for Completing Degree Graduates were asked to indicate their original purpose or purposes for completing their degree. 8 Meet Goals Employed graduates were asked to indicate whether or not their job met their goals for after-JBU- employment. 9 Career Assistance Students were asked if they received assistance from the Career Development Center, Professor in their major, faculty advisor, or “other”. They could select as many as apply. In addition to the self-reported CDC usage data, we used CDC records to determine if a student participated in a CDC event in the 2016-17 or 2017-18 academic years. 10 Handshake Usage Although not a part of the First Destination Survey, the Career Development Center collected usage statistics on Handshake. For this analysis, we analyzed Handshake usage by our 2017-18 graduates. Almost half of TUG graduates logged into Handshake at least once, but only 25% completed a profile. Login and profile-creation rates were lower for GR and OLUG graduates. 11 Employers and Grad Schools Below is a list of employers and grad schools where respondents indicated they were working or attending graduate school.
