1914 Sturmey Archer 3 ½ Pre 1950 Club: Sunbeam MCC Bike Details: Found languishing in a garage, last used in 1972, as witnessed by an old tax disc. Not a barn find but a garage find.

1920 W20 2 ¾ Pre 1950 Lightweight Club: Sunbeam MCC Bike Details: After supplying 25,000 motorcycles to the armed services in WWI Douglas returned to civilian production in 1919 with a range of 'Peace Programme' models. Priced at £90 with three-speed gearbox, clutch, footboards and kick-start, the W20 was the most expensive top-of-the-range Deluxe model of the 1920 2¾ HP models. This machine was left in the store room of a London dealership in a non-running, derelict condition for many years. Purchased when the dealer closed in 2005, it was restored by the owner in time for the Douglas centenary in 2007 and used for London Douglas Club events, shows and Brooklands events.

1921 Sunbeam Model 6 TT Longstok 492/ Pre 1950 Competition / Special Club: Sunbeam MCC Bike Details: This bike was owned by George Symonds and was raced in the first 1923 Amateur TT. It also won the 1923 Cornish Hill Climb. Other owners were Vincent Eddy, William Prowse, Brian Treval, Bill Lake followed by Paul Foulkes Halbard and now Karl Foulkes Halbard. First time at this show for this bike, which is still used on Sunbeam MCC rallies and is part of the Foulkes Halbrad collection at Filching Manor.

1925 T3 211 Pre 1950 Lightweight Club: VMCC (Men of Kent) Bike Details: Levis were manufactured by Butterfields of Birmingham, for many years one of England's leading manufacturers of two-stroke motorcycles.

1925 Rex Acme TT / Brooklands 2¾ Pre 1950 Lightweight Club: Roaring Twenties MCC Bike Details: This type of machine was used by WL Handley to win the 1925 Junior TT at an average lap speed of 65.02 mph, and a lap record of 65.89 mph. Fitted with a engine.

1928 Ariel D - Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (East Sussex) Bike Details: Imported from Holland about 5 years ago, this motorcycle was sent to Gustaf Mandin of Norrköping, Sweden on production in 1928. On arrival in the UK it needed a lot of work to make it roadworthy, including making the brakes work! It is now a sound, working machine, bought for its looks as well as its speed.

1928 Norton CS1 500 Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (East Sussex) Bike Details: Bought in 2017 from a friend who had owned it since 1982. This CS1 had been used by the previous owner for couple of years before being taken off the road as it needed a few jobs doing. Other events took over and it was never finished. He has decided now that it is too far down the list so it will never get done. Carefully reassembled using original parts to keep the patina after 30 years in bits.

1929 Ariel E (Black Ariel) 500 Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (East Sussex) Bike Details: Built up from a basket case about five years ago. The '80' stamped on the crankcase means it lef tthe factory with a guarenteed top-speed of 80mph. First time at this show for this Black Ariel.

1929 Matchless V2 500 Pre 1950 Club: AJS & Matchless OC (Sussex) Bike Details: OHV sporting machine, originally marketed by Matchless with a guaranteed speed of 85 mph.

1930 Indian 101 Scout 750 Pre 1950 Overseas Club: Indian Riders MCC Bike Details: Restored mainly in Sweden, using many original parts. This bike was exported to Sweden from new so has the European specification Bosch headlight, charging & electrical system, which were fitted on import. The American & UK machines were fitted with standard Indian equipment. Fitted with hand gear change, foot clutch and a left-hand throttle, which is standard for Indian. The Scout was popular for its handling, speed/weight ratio & versatility, and considered the flagship of Indian motocycles.

1932 30 500 Pre 1950 Competition / Special Club: Norton OC (Surrey) Bike Details: Reassembled from a basket case by the late Bernard Harding. It's brilliant fun to ride, like riding a moving thunderstorm, springing oil instead of water! First time at this show.

1935 GTP 250 Pre 1950 Lightweight Club: Bike Details: Only 250 magneto versions of the GTP were produced. The automatic two-stroke oiling by pump was a first. Formerly owned by Bob Burgess, Velocette's service manager and author. Quite a rare machine now, and first time at this show.

1937 Rudge Ulster 500 Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (East Sussex) Bike Details: Total rebuild of my father's bike (Charlie Stanford), which broke down and was left against the garden wall. After some years, Mrs Stanford skipped it, and on coming home from work Dad had to hot-foot it to find it! Luckily he retrieved it, and again left it propped up against the garden wall as the sub-frame had been damaged whilst in transit in the skip. Some years later, I started work on the machine, and it has taken six years to complete.

1937 Velocette KSS MK II 350 Pre 1950 Club: Velocette OC (North London & Herts) Bike Details: Pre War Velocette with the fabled cammy engine.

1938 Panther 100 Redwing 600 Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (Surrey & Sussex) Bike Details: The Panther Model 100 was introduced in 1932 and remained in production until 1963. Fitted with a Steib . This bike is ridden to every run and show, and is never trailered. Regularly competes in the Sunbeam MCC Graham Walker Run based at Beaulieu Motor Museum in Hampshire. From home that's 90+ miles each way, not including the length of the run. No mean feat, and with my mate Brian in the sidecar!

1938 Rudge Sports Special 500 Pre 1950 Competition / Special Club: VMCC (Surrey & Sussex) Bike Details: The Sports Special 500cc model was introduced in 1937, production ceased in 1939. This example has been rebuilt twice, first time from a basket case where parts were missing, the second time after an accident in 2000.

1939 Ariel W/NG 350 Pre 1950 Club: VMCC (East Sussex) Bike Details: An ex WWII army machine restored to civilian specification nearly 20 years ago. It has covered over 22,000 trouble-free miles since restoration. VMCC member.

1944 Triumph 3HW 350 Pre 1950 Club: Triumph OC (West Sussex) Bike Details: Manufactured in September 1944 and delivered to the military at Littlewoods Liverpool, then a military vehicle depot. Sold back to Triumph after the war, refurbished (painted black and chromed) and exported to India. Repatriated in the late 90’s, totally worn out, and rebuilt by the present owner in 2001. It has since covered 15,000 miles since then, including 7 visits to the Normandy D-Day commemorations.

1947 Vincent Rapide Series 'B' 998 Pre 1950 Club: Bike Details: Built from a wreck 11 years ago. Originally fitted with a sidecar, the previous owner broke down on the way back from the Isle of Man TT due to a broken cam-bolt but got home on one cylinder. Originally fitted with Triumph Herald wheels with home-made hubs and the wrong forks, it's been completely rebuilt. Matching numbers on engine and UFM, I have original RFM which needs a rebuild! BTH modern mag, electric start, 'Mcdougalator' alternator, 12V electrics, multi-plate clutch, 'D' shock-absorber (engine). Replica Lightning brakes, been on the road now for 11 years. First registered on 18th September 1947.

1948 AJS M18 500 Pre 1950 Club: AJS & Matchless OC (Sussex) Bike Details: Bought by my father in 1962 for commuting, this is a 1949 model, registered in November 1948 and supplied by Redhill Motors in Brighton as new. Flogged to death by myself and my brother in the mid to late sixties when we'd passed our tests. It was then used as a family hack until it just gave up in the early eighties. By then it had been all over the UK and the Continent. Rebuilt by my father a twenty years ago, but never used. Now re-commissioned, it still has a Redhill Motors of Brighton brass plaque on the rear number plate.

Found by a Francis-Barnett Owners Club member after being abandoned for some years. Purchased by the current owner and restored to original condition.

1953 Francis-Barnett Falcon 58 197 1950-59 Lightweight Club: Francis-Barnett Owners Club Bike Details: With current owner since 1959, who paid £67=10s for it. Was restored to ride, with some safety improvements for today's busy roads. Regularly ridden and has completed runs of 400 miles in a day, to and from Mallory Park at the Festival of 1000 Bikes complete with camping gear. Does countless miles every year.

Some modifications, but mainly standard and very nice to ride. The only modifications are an electric starter, electronic ignition and centre stand, otherwise in factory delivered presentation in "sport specification".

1954 BSA Bantam Wasp 175 1950-59 Lightweight Competition / Special Club: BSA Bantam Preservation Group Bike Details: This is a one-off trials Bantam with a 1968 175cc engine fitted in a 1954 frame. With parts from six Bantam models: D7 speedo, D5 fuel tank and various other parts fabricated. The name Wasp comes form the bikes colour, yellow and black.

1954 Norton Dominator 88 500 1950-59 Club: Norton OC (Kent) Bike Details: Very original and rebuilt, this is a November 1954 model going into '55. It's been with the present owner since 1978 and is never trailered, apart from by the AA!

It's been used mainly for club runs, and has also taken part in 14 French trips. During one year we travelled to Luxemburg and on into Germany. It's also taken part in two Norton Owners' Club rallies in Southern Ireland.

1955 BSA Bantam D3 148 1950-59 Lightweight Club: BSA Bantam Preservation Group Bike Details: Originally despatched from the factory on 9th September 1955 to the dealers Nassers & Co in The Belgian Congo. Came back to the UK in 1976 as a total wreck and has been completely rebuilt, using the original parts.

1955 Francis-Barnett Falcon 70 Trials 197 1950-59 Lightweight Competition / Special Club: Francis-Barnett Owners Club Bike Details: Purchased in 2015 from a fellow club member as a running restoration, and restored as a green laner / trials bike by the owner. Best lightweight at the Romney Marsh Show in June 2019.

1955 Triumph TR5 Trophy 500 1950-59 Club: VMCC (Surrey & Sussex) Bike Details: The 500cc TR5 Trophy was a was a standard motorcycle made by at the Meriden factory between 1949 and 1958. This bike is from 1955, the first year of swinging arm rear suspension. Based on the Speed Twin, the TR5 was a trails machine designed for off- road use with a high-level two-into-one exhaust and good handling. Bought locally as a box of bits around 10 years ago, this bike had last been used as a scrambler and we have photos of it in action at Piddingworth (?) Circuit near Ditchling. It took me around three years to complete a nut and bolt rebuild.

1957 James Commando 197 1950-59 Competition / Special Lightweight Club: Bike Details: The James Commando won the Pre-Scottish Two-Day Trial twice in the 1950/1960’s. It has now been rebuilt by John Burch who scrambled a James Cotswold in the fifties and sixties. It has the correct forks for the year 1957 and is almost as originally purchased.

1957 Scott Red Squirrel 596 1950-59 Club: Scott Owners Club Bike Details: This is an early example of the 'Birmingham' Scott that was produced by Matt Holder (Aerco Jig & Tools) from 1956 to 1972. Owned by the current owner for over 50 years, purchased in 1963 for £80-00, it was used as everyday transport for the first nine years of ownership.

1958 Greeves Scottish 250 1950-59 Competition / Special Lightweight Club: Bike Details: Re-built by Vic Allan MBE, the four-times British Champion.

1958 Norbsa Cafe Racer 500 1950-59 Competition / Special Club: Bike Details: Norton Dominator 99 Wideline frame fitted with a new BSA Goldstar DBD 34 engine. The engine has Burton cases, a Phil Peason top end and ABSAF Nikasil barrells. With centre-port head and a Gardner head, it's been built to the same spec as the Phil Pearson Goldstar that lapped the Isle of Man at 103mph.

The South of England Classic Motorcycle Show : March------2020 TBA www.elk-promotions.co.uk Year Make Model cc / HP Classes Entered 1958 Norton Nomad Desert Racer 600 1950-59 Club: Norton OC (Surrey) Bike Details: This Nomad was dispatched to HAP Jones Distributing Company, the Norton importers based in San Francisco USA. They were made for desert racing and dirt tracks. Only one 600cc Nomad was ever sold in England, all the rest went for export. Over 300 Nomads were made, using a modified Norton ES2 frame, with a wider, stronger swinging-arm to take a wider knobbly Scrambler tyre. The exhaust was special to the Nomads, and the dual seat was coloured differently between the models when they were being tested by the factory testers. The 500cc Nomad had a black-topped seat with white sides, whilst the 600cc had white-top seats with black sides.

1958 Velocette Viper 350 1950-59 Club: VMCC (Surrey & Sussex) Bike Details: Found as a wreck in a neighbour's chicken shed in 1992 and transported in a wheelbarrow to the current owner's shed. Total ground-up restoration by the owner, to original 'factory gate' condition. Bottom end and gearbox re-built by Geoff Dodkin. Now well used, has taken part in many VMCC including the Isle of Man, Dorset, Wales Scarborough and Cornwall. Plus Velocette OC events in France and the UK. Winner Best RealClassic at this event in 2013.

1959 AJS 31 DL 650 1950-59 Club: AJS & Matchless OC(East London & Essex) Bike Details: The bike was purchased by a previous owner in December 1992 in pieces and subsequently rebuilt. It was registered in November 1993 and the original number retained. It was then sold and owned and loved by one owner for 18 years before I purchased it. Unusually for a DL it has an alternator engine, and has been converted to 12v electrics and has a cassette type oil filter fitted, which is concealed behind the oil tank. The exhaust pipes are period reverse-cone megaphones.

1959 BSA Golden Flash Outfit 650 1950-59 Club: Bike Details: Fitted with a 1957 Watsonian MK1 Monaco sidecar. Both bike and sidecar have been completely rebuilt by the owner from wrecks. The bike had been stored in a shed from 1962 to 2006, with just 17,000 miles on the clock. It was complete missing only the rear light lens. The sidecar had been left dismantled in a garden in Birmingham since 1977. Now a nice outfit to enjoy.

It took three years of autojumbling and eBaying to collect all the correct parts. Rebuilt from the ground up, with a 12V upgrade, Boyer Bransden ignition, an external oil filter, small indicators and heated grips fitted for winter riding. The machine has covered nearly 6000 miles since the rebuild and was ridden to and from this show.

1960 Norton Dominator 99 Café R 600 1960-69 Competition / Special Club: Norton OC (Surrey) Bike Details: I purchased the Dominator in 2015 from Roy Hands who used to sprint race it, but stopped around 7 years previously. He has a timed standing quarter mile of 12.3 seconds with 99mph at the post using the bike in the under 750cc class. Obviously the gearing has been altered so she is fit for the road, but I have the necessaries to turn her back into a sprinter if I want (which I don’t). She is very quick in any event, with polished cams, twin carb conversion, racing clutch and gear internals, racing twistgrip, beefed up headstock, much improved brakes amongst other improvements. Since purchase I have gone back to magneto ignition and replaced the carbs and Siamese pipes.

Member of Mid Sussex British MCC Winner at Eastbourne Classic Bike Show and twice mentioned by Classic Bike Guide. Involved with the Goodwood Revival for the past 15 years. Always ridden to shows throughout the year.

1969 Seeley Mk3 G50 500 1960-69 Competition / Special Club: BRT Racing Bike Details: The Matchless G50 engine is entirely brand new, with better main and big end bearings than the original. Bore is 90mm and Stroke is 78mm (giving 496cc) and has a compression ratio of 11.2:1. The gear box is the latest Quaife six-speed racing box with magnesium cases and uses a Bob Newby racing clutch and belt primary drive. The Carburettor is AMAL 1½" GP with remote float and ignition is by Lucas Magneto. The Bike will be used at the CRMC and other classic events in the UK and at the Belgium classic GP at Spa 2018 and the Classic TT 2018. The bike weighs 140Kg/308 Lbs wet.

1972 Honda CB 175 174 1970 On Lightweight Overseas Club: Bike Details: In 1972 I owned from new a CB175 with the registration number DKL 54K, and I have been trying to find it with no success. It is on the DVLA database, but untaxed. I have looked everywhere I can and came across this bike on eBay as a bit of a wreck, but the number is very close to mine, just 15 out. It came out of Chambers of Rochester on the 2nd May 1972, the same day as mine, so I had to have it. Here is the result of a 12 month rebuild - probably as near as I am going to get to getting mine back.

In 2016 I rode this bike into Asia covering 5000 miles and 16 countries over a three week period. The only issue was a lost a split link off the rear chain on a Greek motorway, which was repaired in a few moments with a spare I carried. Completed over 50,000 miles since purchased in 2010, with only two major engine rebuilds!

1974 Rickman Metisse 650 1970 On Competition / Special Club: Bike Details: Purchased in 2016 from a classic dealer for top money, supposedly rebuilt. The engine seized after two short rides, and had to be completely rebuilt. Replacement pistons, con-rods and a second-hand crank were supplied by the dealer. The crank and big-ends were renewed by John Brewster of JHB Engineering, Rye. After a mis-match in parts was spotted, Macro Precision Pumps Ltd of Hailsham made modifications to allow the crank to be fitted in the crankcases. Front hub polished by JC Polishing, of Bolney. First time at this Show.

1975 Triumph Trident T160 750 1970 On Club: Bike Details: One of the last of the Triumph Triples, this bike was an ex-demo machine, then had just one owner. Last taxed in 1976 according to DVLA records, it then sat in the back of a garage for the last thirty-five years. The engine has undergone a rebuild, while the paintwork and most of the chrome is all original. A few items have been replaced but the bike is largely original, with 16,000 miles on the clock, which is believed to be correct.

Bought from Mochecks of Clapham on 21st October 1978 for £2600 OTR, see the original bill of sale. This bike is all original, apart from the exhaust, which was replaced 20 years ago with the genuine part; stands and rear master cylinder. A few brackets have been repainted and some fasteners and small parts zinc plated. The carbs were stripped and serviced by a fellow member of the CBX Riders Club (UK).

1981 Ducati TT2 750 1970 On Competition / Special Overseas Club: BRT Racing Bike Details: In 1981 Ducati prepared a special racing twin based on the production model, simply known as the TT2. The frame is extremely light at just 7kg made by Verlicchi Italy. The forks are Marzocchi with magnesium-dash alloy sheaths, while the single-shock cantilever rear-suspension used a single Paioli unit. Also fitted are Campagnolo ultra-light alloy wheels with an 18" diameter. All original parts were used to build it & we think it looks pretty nice & a dead ringer for the original factory bike. The brakes are Brembo 280mm on the front & 260mm on the rear. The under- engine exhaust is by Quill from Two Wheel Classics & the rest is lots of hard work and time. The bike will be used at CRMC events, the Belgian Classic GP at Spa & the Classic TT.
