Ammonium Nitrogen is also taken up by the grass plant but is THE NITRIFICATION PROCESS: WITH THE DI used less quickly, thus grass growth tends to be slower. In Schematic Diagram addition, the Ammonium Nitrogen is held tightly in the soil growth with fertilizer conti which reduces the risk of Nitrogen being lost through leaching. 'Didin' inhibits the growth of the bacteria Nitrosomonas. This bacteria is essential for the breakdown of Ammonium Nitrogen to Nitrite Nitrogen. As a result the plant takes up Ammonium Nitrogen which is used less quickly and is not leached (lower diagram). Because of these effects, 'Longlife' fertilizers containing 'Didin' are both efficient and economical.
