We say we are going to eat less and work out more. Think about making resolutions that will not only help you, but help your community. Volunteerism can take many forms. Whether you choose to spend time helping out at your local library, mentoring a child, or building a house, there are many nonprofit volunteer organizations that could really use your help. Or if your time is really in short supply, maybe you can donate the furniture, clothing and other household items that you no longer need. In addition to our local schools, synagogues and churches, here’s a sampling of some other local, non-profit organizations that are in need of volunteers, financial contributions and/or miscellaneous donations.

16 January 2013 East CobbeR www.eastcobber.com East Cobb Ace Hardware Continues Family Tradition with New Store IN PRINT

The new East Cobb Ace Hardware store opened on November 19th in the Shallowford Falls Shopping Center off Johnson Ferry ON Road, but, as co-owner Steve Ragsdale explains, he and his store have a much longer history as a retailer in the community. LINE Ragsdale and his business partner, Grover Dobbins, previously owned Ragsdale’s Ace Hardware, which began back in 1954 when Ragsdale’s father, Bill, set up shop in an old house on Roswell Road. The family tradition of being the friendly, neighbor- hood hardware dealer has continued over the years in various locations. As a constant reminder of that legacy, a picture of the family’s original store hangs prominently in the new location, overlooking the checkout area. AND The foundation to that heritage, relates Steve Ragsdale, is built upon convenience, quality products and polite, knowledgeable, customer service. “Our employees will take the time to listen and to solve people’s project needs,” he says. Furthermore, the two long-time friends make it a point to employ salespeople who live in nearby neighborhoods, so that customers and the staff often ALL may know one another, or may easily become acquainted over AROUND time, giving the place a family feel. East Cobb Ace hardware, with nearly 10,000 square feet of floor space, carries a full line of products and top brands to meet EAST professional and handyman needs: Stanley, Benjamin Moore, Craftsman, Echo, Weber, etc., as well as specialty products, such as a complete wild bird section. The store also offers a full line of COBB the popular Kamado Joe Grills and Smokers. Co-owner Dobbins adds, “If you can’t find what you want, ask for it. If we don’t have it, we’ll try to get it,” whether by special order or by adding new products as regularly stocked items. So, whether it’s replacing a rusty bolt, designing a tree house www.eastcobber.com or shopping for housewares, Ace is “The Helpful Place” to turn to.
